Chapter 7: Chapter Six

I'd Wait For You (Christian romance)Words: 5164

The walk back to my dorm was not awkward but I wasn't exactly the most comfortable person. Matthew followed me upstairs and we stooped at my door.

"I'm gonna turn around now to face you." when I got no answer I looked back to see if he was still there. Matthew was leaning on the wall watching me in amusement.

"Umm right," I said turning all the way around. I turned around so fast that my key flew out of my hands and hit him right in the chest. Great. He chuckled and picked it up off the floor.

"Well after today I should expect either you bumping into me or throwing things at me for the rest of my life. Note taken." He said while handing me my keys.

"Sorry," I said again for God knows the what time today.

"It's okay, besides I'm getting used to it."

I cringed.

"Lighten up will ya? It's not that big of a deal"

We made eye contact for what seemed like an eternity before I looked away.

"So you live on campus too?"

"Yeah on the H hall."

"Cool."

We stood there in awkward silence.  "Alright well you're here safely so I'm gonna go," Matthew said checking his watch.

"Okay well thank you for walking me home," I said while opening the door. I paused for a minute or two "I'm sorry we had to meet like this. Thanks again and good night Matthew."

I slowly closed the door, dropped my things to the floor, and rested my head on the door. What a day I thought. That's when I heard a very faint voice "It's Matt and I'm sorry that you're sorry because I'm not." I stood holding my breath as if I were hiding from someone and was scared if I'd got caught. I heard Matthew...Matt's footsteps walk away and I leaned up off the door, picked up my things, set them down, and went to my bed.

Picking up my phone I called my mom.

"Heyyy Tiger!" mom answered

"Hey mom."

"How was the first day?"

I did a dramatic sigh "Exhausting."

"Really? I thought you only had one class"

"I did...I do. It's not the class it's me."

"What happened?"

"I met this guy by bumping into him twice once in the morning and then the other when I went to check out the coffee shop except I spilled my lemonade all over him the second time."

"Of course you'd order lemonade at a coffee shop."

"Mommmmm, " I groaned "That's beside the point. I'm so embarrassed."

"Well, at least you only spilled your drink once."

"You're so helping me right now, " I said while rolling my eyes.

"Whatever. Honey it couldn't have been that bad. Was he mean about it. Did he yell?"

"Well no he didn't but that doesn't mean I don't feel bad."

"Oh, hun it's okay. It's your first day, you're in a new place. Stuff like this happens...twice. That person is probably laughing about it right now. Stop stressing."

"You're right. I just need to calm down."

"Deep breaths sugar. Everything is gonna be okay. Sarah please why are you crying? Who hurt you now?"

I laughed while my mother asked my sister questions. Sarah wasn't crying. She was singing and man I can say that's one thing I won't miss.  My sister had the voice of car tires trying to stop themselves from driving off a cliff.

"I'll talk to you later mom. I hope everything is okay. Kiss dad for me will ya?"

"Sure I will and yes sweetheart everything is okay. Sarah please my ears! Someone make her stop! Mark, get your daughter she's trying to--" I cut the phone off before she finished her sentence. I know if I'd stay I would be there for hours.

One day down and it feels like forever more to go. I got up and looked at my list for the day. I only got two things done. I sighed. Tomorrow is a free day for me and I'm determined to buy Matthew his shirt back but not as determined to visit the orphan center. That's my priority tomorrow...after God of course.

I looked at the time. It was 5:37 pm. I got some of my psychology homework done, took a shower, did hygiene stuff, spend time with God and by the time I was in bed Kate was walking through the door. I looked at the clock. It was 10 pm.

"Hey stranger," I said while sitting up. "You okay?"

"Yeah just tired. The first few days of school are always the busiest days. I am hungry too."

"You can have my sub if you'd like. It's in the fridge."

"Thanks. Why didn't you eat though?" She asked while warming the sub up.

"I lost my appetite after today's events."

She laughed a little bit before saying "I see you've met my friend Matt."

"Friend?" I asked the sleep leaving my eyes. "You guys argue like two old people you can't stand each other."

"That's just how we are. Like siblings, you know?"

"Uh-huh yeah sure. Umm, do you know where he lives?"  I asked trying not to sound too desperate.

"Yeah, why?" she asked while taking a bit of the sub.

"I'd like to return his t-shirt."

"He said it was okay," she said while taking another bite.

"Yeah, but I can't help it. That's just the way I am."

"He lives on the H hall room 210."

"Thanks!"

"No problem."

Alright, Matthew James whatever your last name is. I guess I'll see you tomorrow.
