Waking up the next morning I did my morning routine, kissed Kate good-bye, and went out to find the closet mall/clothing store nearby.
I loved my roommate. She was was so kind and sweet. It feels like we're sisters. I smiled at the thought and said "Well God, you did it again. Thank you."
Walking off the living quarters I repeated over and over again. "I will not bump into anyone. I will not bump into anyone." I said this until I was able to find a cab.
"Morning!" I practically yelled while getting in a Lyft.
"Hey how are you?" The driver asked.
"I'm good and you."
"Great. Where ya heading to?" the driver said while looking at me in the mirror.
"Ummm do you know where to find a cheap but nice enough quality clothing store?" I asked
"What are you looking for?" she asked giving me her full attention.
"Uh, a couple of white t-shirts...maybe some black ones too."
"Is Walmart okay?"
"It's perfect."
And with that, we were off to Wally World.
"Thank you so much, "Â I said while getting out of the car.
"No problem hun!" the driver said and drove off. She was a sweet lady maybe in her late 60s. She was a very easy person to talk to.
I walked into Walmart and headed straight for the clothing aisle. "These looks so tiny though," I said picking up an Extra Large plain black t-shirt
"Can I help you, ma'am?" One of the store helpers asked.
"Yes, I'm looking for some plain t-shirt for a guy friend but these seem to be the largest you have. Do you have maybe an XXXL?"
"You said guy friend right?" She asked looking confused
"Right!" I said giving the best smile I could offer
All of a sudden she started laughing, covering her mouth as if trying to stop. "Sweetie you're in the women's section."
I joined her laughing I almost cried. "I'm so sorry. This is my first time shopping in the clothing department for a guy I forgot one of the most important things...finding the men's section"
"It's alright stuff like that happens. If you keep walking straight and turn left you should find what you're looking for."
"Thank you," I said making my way down the aisle. I didn't bump into anyone so I'll let that encounter pass.
"Now this is what I'm looking for," I said while picking up a medium black t-shirt. Matthew wasn't a bulky man. He was big but not bulky. This should fit. I checked the price and saw $4.85. Not bad I thought. I picked up 2 black t-shirts and 4 white ones.
Before checking out I also picked up a cute box and a gift card to Dunkin Doughnuts. After all, I did say I'd pay for his drink.
I went to the cashier, cashed out, and got an Uber back to campus.
"What are those?" Kate asked as soon as I walked in.
"Well hi Rachel how was your day today?" I said in a mocking tone
"It was great Kate. I haven't bumped into anyone today and I just picked up some things for Matthew from Walmart...how was your day?" I asked trying not to laugh
"Well let's see. I got up, prayed, went back to sleep, got up again, fixed breakfast, and now I'm here," she replied
"And would you say your day was eventful?" she said in the same mocking tone
"Yes it was thank you for asking, " finally letting a smile slip.
She laughed. You're so silly. But like seriously what'd you get him."
"Just a couple of t-shirts and a gift card. The possibilities of running into him again are very high."
"You don't say...."Â she said murmuring. "Whelp you caught me right when I was about to leave," she said getting up
"Where are you going?" I asked
"To work. It's a busy day at the shop."
"Alright well stay safe and text me when you get there," I said as she headed for the door.
"Yes mom," she said while closing the door. She peeped her head back in and said "Love you bye."

I took an SAT exam and getting ready to take a couple more exams. Please forgive me and any future tardiness. On the other hand, doesn't Rachel and Kate act like sisters?
