Washington, D.C. â The White House
Everything has changed. And yet, somehow, nothing has.
Kamala still wakes up before dawn, still buries herself in policy briefings, still walks into the West Wing every morning with the weight of the country on her shoulders.
But now, she does it without pretending. Without lying. Without swallowing down a part of herself just to survive. Even with all of the public pressure and judgement, she feels more at ease that she has ever before.
Itâs been weeks since the press conference. The headlines havenât stopped. The scrutiny hasnât eased. But neither has she. Neither have you. Eventually, internet forgets- even the people will forget eventually, so no drama really matters anymore if you think about it that way...
Forget but never forgive, or was it the other way around?
She stands by the Oval Office window, coffee in hand, watching the sun rise over D.C. when Doug steps in.
"Morning," he greets, casual as ever.
"Morning," she responds, taking a sip of her coffee. "How bad is it today?"
Doug shrugs. "Depends. If you ask the conservatives, youâve single-handedly destroyed the moral fabric of the nation. If you ask the liberals, youâre either a trailblazer or a distraction from bigger issues." He pauses. "And if you ask the internet, you're a bisexual icon, and theyâre making memes about you as we speak."
Kamala snorts. "Of course they are."
Dougâs smirk fades slightly as he studies her. "You holding up?"
She exhales, glancing down at her phone where your last text sits on the screen.
"Proud of you. Come home soon."
Kamalaâs lips twitch into a small smile. "Yeah. I am."
Doug nods, satisfied. "Good." Then he grins. "Now, get ready. You have a meeting in twenty minutes, and I need you to at least pretend to care about infrastructure today."
Kamala groans, but Doug is already walking away, laughing under his breath.
New York â Your Apartment
The world is still loud. The media is still relentless. But in here, in your space, itâs quiet.
You lean against the kitchen counter, watching as Kamala shuffles around in your sweatshirtâthe one thatâs far too big on her, sleeves hanging over her hands. Sheâs making coffee, but sheâs still half-asleep, movements slow, hair a mess from sleep.
She looks good like this. Happy. Real.
She turns, catching you staring. "What?"
You shake your head, smirking. "Nothing. Just enjoying the sight of the President of the United States struggling to use a coffee machine." You laugh out loud.
She glares. "I hate you."
You chuckle, walking over to wrap your arms around her waist from behind. "No, you donât."
Kamala exhales, leaning back into you. "No," she admits. "I really donât."
You rest your chin on her shoulder, swaying her gently. "So what now?"
Kamala hums, turning in your arms to face you fully. "Now?" She brushes a strand of hair from your face, fingers lingering against your skin. "Now, we keep going. Nothing really changed has it?"
You raise an eyebrow. " Well surely something must have changed, don't forget that nothing ever stays the same. But otherwise its that simple, huh?"
She smiles. "It doesnât have to be complicated anymore."
And maybe sheâs right. Maybe, for once, things donât have to be a battle. Maybe love doesnât have to be hidden, or sacrificed, or survived because of others.
Maybe love can just be.
You pull her closer, pressing a slow kiss to her lips, and for the first time in a long, long timeâ
Neither of you are afraid and hopefully, nobody will ever have to be affraid because of love ever again.
The End.
A/N : this is a bit shorter for the last chapter but I think its just enought for this fanfic. I really do appreciate every vote, comment or read and Im super thanful for the support!
PS : I know this fanfiction didn't have any smut in it (I didn't think it was necessary for the plot at all + not everything has to have smut in it) but if ya all some bonus smut chapters? Might write few of them so lmk ;)
One last thing, if you ever notice missclicks or misspelled please do let me know so I can fix them, im not a native speaker and altought my vocabulary is solid my spelling might no always be correct.
