-Ding-
The system message announced the murdererâs first move. Considering that kills could only happen every ten minutes, it was relatively early.
âThey struck as soon as the cooldown ended... Who could it be?â
Even Ji Hye-min, the organizer and host of this collab, had no idea who the murderer was. After all, knowing the identity in advance would inevitably give it away.
It was a purely random assignmentâa necessary choice to preserve the immersive tension of the content.
However, there was a potential risk: compared to the [Squirrel Crew], who had played this "Hide and Seek with the Murderer" content countless times, the Fantasia members were less experienced. If one of them ended up as the murderer, their inexperience might result in a dull, anticlimactic game.
Thatâs why several precautions had been put in place.
One of them was the inclusion of a role called the "Spy."
Spies assisted the murderer by sowing discord among the citizens or framing specific players as the murderer. If the spy and the murderer were the last ones standing, the spy would also win.
The role required more skill and strategy than that of a regular citizen or even the murderer. For this reason, Ji Hye-min had decided beforehand that she would take on the role of the spy herself.
-Ding-
"â¦At this rate, I probably wonât even need to help."
Barely ten minutes after the first kill, another system message announced yet another murder. Judging by the pace, Ji Hye-min figured she could stay back for now. If she intervened too soon, the citizens might get wiped out entirely without a fighting chance.
For now, she decided to focus on maintaining the balance of the game to keep the experience thrilling.
That was when she spotted Diah wandering nearby.
âThatâs not Ha-eun. Thatâs Diah. Thatâs not Ha-eun. Thatâs Diahâ¦â
Ji Hye-min chanted silently to herself. Up until now, sheâd always spoken formally to Ha-eun. But addressing Diah, who was role-playing as a one-year-old spirit, with honorifics felt a bit⦠odd.
âHey, Diah~. Have you found anything~?â
ââ¦I havenât found anything yetâ¦.â
âHuh? Why does your voice sound like that?â
ââ¦Iâm scaredâ¦.â
Ji Hye-min adjusted her tone, treating Diah like a younger sibling for the sake of the broadcast atmosphere.
"She's too cute, seriously."
"Her voice is literally shaking."
"Baby Diah is scared of the big bad murderer!"
"A 1-year-old left at the mercy of a 30-something spy (not fake)."
"This could stir up some drama, lol."
Ji Hye-min ignored the increasingly chaotic chat. She trusted her moderators to handle the trolls swiftly.
Taking advantage of this encounter, she decided to ask Diah about her experience so far. Maybe she could offer some advice if Diah seemed to be struggling.
Before Ji Hye-min could say anything, thoughâ
âUm, bossâ¦â
âHm?â
âI found something earlier. It was in a chest, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldnât jump high enough to reach itâ¦.â
Diah made her request so innocently that Ji Hye-min immediately felt compelled to help.
âWhere is it?â
âOver there, on that brick rooftopâ¦.â
Seeing that Diah had no clues about the murderer, Ji Hye-min decided to retrieve the chestâs contents herself. It required a bit of skillful jumping, something Diah claimed she struggled with.
Years of Minecraft streaming had made Ji Hye-min an expert at parkour. Helping a novice like Diah was a minor favor and hardly a game-breaking advantage.
The challenge began. Ji Hye-minâs avatar leaped from one platform to the next, steadily approaching the chest. She was nearly there whenâ
-Thud.-
â?!â
She turned just in time to see Diahâs avatar standing right behind her. Before she could react, Diah swung her fist, knocking Ji Hye-min off the platform.
Ji Hye-minâs avatar plummeted to the ground, taking heavy fall damage.
As she landed, Diah calmly jumped down beside her. In one fluid motion, Diah pulled a small, sharp item from her inventory and muttered softly,
âIdiot.â
-Slash!-
Ji Hye-minâs avatar, weakened from the fall, died instantly.
-Ding-
âWhat theâ?! What is this?!!!â Ji Hye-min shouted, her disbelief evident in her voice.
- Hahaha!
- OMG lolol!
- Totally baited!
- Imagine getting outplayed by a one-year-old spirit with 11 years of Minecraft streaming experience (no lies here).
- RIP Spy.
- I can hear her rage-shots from here, lol.
Ji Hye-min felt utterly dumbfounded. Was this what it meant for your brain to completely shut down in disbelief?
She had played "Hide and Seek with the Murderer" dozens of times over the years. And yet, this was the first time sheâd ever died like this.
She was the Spy, for crying out loudâthe master strategist meant to assist an inexperienced murderer.
And yet, she fell for the murdererâs "innocent act," got sucker-punched, and was summarily eliminated.
Not a single scenario Ji Hye-min had ever devised for this game foresaw her dying such an absurd death.
"Did⦠I just get outplayed? Me?"
She spent several long minutes in denial, trying to come to terms with her elimination. But no matter how she replayed the events, one truth remained unshakable: Diah had completely orchestrated her downfall.
If Ji Hye-min hadnât been killed in a single hit, she probably couldâve escaped. With her godlike control skills, Diah wouldâve stood no chance in a prolonged chase.
But that was exactly why Diah had eliminated any chance of escape.
It wasnât just a coincidenceâDiah, or rather Ha-eun, knew exactly how skilled Ji Hye-min was.
After all, Diahâs player wasnât just any novice. She was D.A., a longtime viewer who had been watching Ji Hye-minâs streams for 11 years. Of course, she would know just how formidable Ji Hye-min could be.
â...âI canât do parkour,â she said... âI canât reach the chest,â she saidâ¦.â
"Trust is overrated, honestly."
"Whose fault is it for believing the murderer?"
"But honestly, who wouldâve guessed Diah was the murderer?!"
"That wasnât beginner luck. Sheâs got skills. Damn."
Pretending to be a Minecraft noob and luring Ji Hye-min into a false sense of security wasnât something just anyone could pull off.
By comparison, Ji Hye-min looked like the real fool for underestimating her.
Now that she was dead, all Ji Hye-min could do was watch the rest of the game as a spectator.
"Letâs see how well you do now that youâve betrayed me, you little menaceâ¦"
"Oh no, Diahâs about to get canceled!"
"RIP Diahâs career. Sheâs homeless now."
"Letâs all take a breath and enjoy the show, folks."
"You can practically hear Ji grinding her teeth from here."
Ten minutes later, Diah ran into another innocent citizen, Mile.
âI found this item called âThe Murdererâs Diary,ââ Mile said. âWhat about you, Diah? Whatâve you got?â
âWell, I found something⦠but Iâm not really sure what it is. Could you take a look at it for me?â
Diah handed over the Spyâs Tokenâa special item from Ji Hye-minâs inventoryâto Mile. Curious, Mile started reading its description out loud.
âA token held by the traitor who betrays everyone to be the last one standââ
-Slash!!
âThanks for your final wordsâ¦â.â
Before Mile could even process what was happening, Diah stabbed her avatar and killed her on the spot.
Ji Hye-min, watching the scene unfold, could only sit there in stunned amazement. She had never seen anyone murder so⦠casually.
-Ding-
âHuhâ¦? Wait, am I dead?!â
âYeah, Mile. Youâre dead.â
âWait⦠why is the boss dead too?â
ââ¦Things happened.â
By now, the previously eliminated Cream had joined the spectator group. Together, they watched Diah continue her string of unexpected murders, all while munching metaphorical popcorn.
As time passed, only four players remained: three citizens and Diah, the murderer.
By this point, the citizens had grown extremely paranoid, their guard up at all times.
Diah, sensing the tension, paused her killing spree and pretended to help collect hints. She lingered near a player named Sangchoo, waiting for the perfect moment to act.
âWhatâs she up to?â Ji Hye-min muttered, watching closely. âThey only need two more clues to identify the murderer.â
âYeah, she canât possibly take on three at once with the cooldown,â Cream added.
âSheâs got a plan. Letâs just see how this little devil plays it out.â
For a while, the game grew quiet. No murders, no dramatic reveals. Then, just as one of the remaining citizens found a key clueâ
âAHHHHH!! MOMMMY!!!â
â?! What happened?! Whatâs wrong?â
Suddenly, Diah let out a high-pitched scream and bolted toward Sangchoo, looking terrified. Coincidentally, another player, Gnyuk, arrived at the scene at the same time.
âS-Sir Cloud tried to kill me!â Diah exclaimed, pointing a trembling finger.
âCloud? Seriously?! Where is he now?â
âI⦠I donât know! I ran, and he disappeared!â
Her act worked like a charm. In a game where paranoia ruled, all Diah had to do was sow a little more distrust.
Now, all three citizensâDiah includedâset out to track down Cloud, believing him to be the murderer.
When they finally found him, the accusations flew immediately.
âGive it up, Cloud. Itâs over.â
âWhat?! Are you crazy?! Iâm not the murderer!â
âDiah and Gnyuk have been searching for clues nonstop. Youâre the only one whose whereabouts we couldnât verify!â
Cloud, an innocent citizen, was framed and accused of being the murderous fiend who had taken countless lives.
Cloud, understandably frustrated, could barely keep it together.
-Thwack! Thwack!-
âDie, you monster!!â
âWHAT THE HELL, GNYUK?!â
The situation spiraled out of control. In a panic, Gnyuk attacked Cloud, trying to eliminate him. Cloud fought back, but it was too late. Both ended up dyingâone from the attack and the other from the systemâs penalty for killing an innocent.
The result? Two more citizens were dead, leaving only Diah and Sangchoo.@@novelbin@@
âUh, Diah? Why did Gnyuk die just now?â Sangchoo asked, his voice trembling.
ââ¦Do you really want to know?â
Sangchoo froze as a chilling smile spread across Diahâs face.
-BOOM!
A bolt of lightning shot down from the heavens, striking Gnyukâs avatar and reducing it to ash.
This was the penalty for one citizen killing another.
âUhâ¦?â
In the blink of an eye, two innocent citizens were gone.
Sangchoo, the last remaining citizen, froze in disbelief. His mind struggled to process what had just happened.
Finally, he managed to ask the obvious question.
âD-Diah⦠why did Gnyuk die?â
ââ¦Do you really want to know?â
A chill ran down Sangchooâs spine.
âNo⦠no, of course notâ¦â
ââ¦Your last words are kind of short, thoughâ.â
In less than a second, shing.
Diahâs avatar, which had been empty-handed until now, pulled out a sharp, deadly dagger.
Swick!
Ding!
No justice was served.
Only eerie silence and the stench of metaphorical blood remained.
Diah had successfully eliminated every last citizen.
And as the final reckoning of the game drew nearâ
Ding!
[Zurine has donated $100!]
Message: âType âNoobâ in chat for an extra $50!â
ââ¦Fifty bucks? Hell yeah!â
Diahâs keyboard clattered as she typed her response.
: Noob.
The chat exploded, and the chaos spilled over into internet forums. Diahâs first official collab had come to an unforgettable close.
LIVE UPDATE: Diah types âNoobâ as the finale.
âHonestly, who wouldâve suspected her? She played scared so well!â
ã´ âRemember how she stammered the moment she heard âmurdererâ? No way anyone guessed.â
ã´ â??? : âHave you all enjoyed yourselves?ââ
âThe final murder isnât killing with your own hands; itâs making them kill each other.â
ã´ âOh God, Kurosaki Ichigo, not you again!â
ã´ âWe call this poetic justice now.â
ã´ âNo, no, itâs political strategy. Letâs keep it simple.â
ã´ âWhatâs complicated about that?â
âDiah <<< Teabagging GOAT.â
ã´ âWhen she called the squirrel âstupid,â I lost it.â
ã´ âThe fact that she actually said it, though!â
âWho taught her how to deliver those death-line one-liners?â
âWhen she pushed Hye-min off the ledge, I got Rachel flashbacks.â
ã´ âYou⦠you just said the âR-word.ââ
ã´ âWait, do todayâs kids even know the Rachel meme?â
ã´ âExcuse me, sir, how old are you?â
ã´ âWelcome to the retirement home.â
âThe squirrel crew is dead! Diah and the Twilight Guild now reign supreme!â
ã´ âItâs just one lucky win, dude, calm down.â
ã´ âLucky? Your leader got wrecked in the first round.â
âIs this the first time the cops failed to craft handcuffs in Murderer Hide and Seek?â
ã´ âThey had all the items.â
ã´ âWhy didnât they craft it?â
ã´ âBecause they all died before they could.â
ã´ âFair enough.â
The news about this historic collaboration spread like wildfire. Fans were stunned by Diahâs unexpected brilliance, and even the participants couldnât stop talking about it.
When the game ended, the other players bombarded Diah with questions.
But Ha-eun, with only 10 hours left until she had to be filming the opening of 2 Days & 3 Nights in a remote mountain village, knew she had to excuse herself.
âI⦠I have to get up early tomorrow morning, so⦠Iâm really sorry, but I think Iâll have to leave now.â
Her tone was cautious, apologetic. After bidding the collab members goodnight, she logged off, shut down her computer, and collapsed into bed.
Despite sleeping fewer hours than usual, she was up before dawn, boarding Ju Jung-yoonâs black van.
Half-asleep and swaying with the ride, Ha-eun eventually found her seat being reclined back by Ju Jung-yoon, who insisted she get more rest.
Back to dreamland she went.
The lingering thrill from her first collab still clung to her as she slept.
Itâs been so long since Iâve seen her smile like thatâ¦.
Ju Jung-yoon noticed the faint, uncharacteristic smile on Ha-eunâs face as she slept.
Click.
She couldnât resist capturing the rare moment on camera.
Ju Jung-yoon immediately sent the photo to Na-yeon and Sung-yoon.
Of course, she swore them to secrecy. Ha-eun would never find out.
When they finally reached the filming location for 2 Days & 3 Nights, Ju Jung-yoon gave Ha-eun a cheerful send-off.
âIf you end up falling into the water, make sure to call me. Iâll bring you a change of clothes⦠and, uh, totally not come just to take photos.â
ââ¦Did I just hear something weird in the middle of that sentence?â
âItâs your imagination! 100% imagination!â
