Chapter 2741
The window of opportunity was closing, and that if they didn't nip this issue in the bud, it would
soon grow into a tangled mess far more difficult to resolve.
Setting aside the stack of documents on his desk, Nolan leaned back in his office chair and said,
âRun me through the situation from the top, will ya?â
âIt's straightforward enough,â Decker replied. âBasically, there was a bit of a spat between the
original developers and a homeless guy that wasn't properly settled. But we'll need to do a bit more
digging before we can give you the full picture.â
Nolan's brow furrowed in concern. âWasn't it confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the
developers? How is it, just as we're about to break ground, that this issue comes out of left field?â
Decker wasn't sure exactly what Nolan was probing for in terms of accountability. After all, their
company had simply purchased the land from the developer-it was a hot commodity, and had they
not stepped in, some other real estate mogul would have snatched it up. The area was prime real
estate, and whoever got their shopping district up first would be laughing all the way to the bank.
âSure, on the surface, the developers had taken care of any previous issues,â Decker admitted.
Nolan remained silent, his long fingers tapping a steady rhythm on the desk-Decker could almost
hear his own heartbeat sync up with the sound.
"On the surface?â Nolan echoed, his tone indicating he'd caught onto the crux of the
matter.
Despite the fact that Deckers department wasn't responsible for securing the land or the purchase
agreement, the sheer pressure of Nolan's presence made the gravity of the situation all too clear.
Even as newcomers to the real estate game, they knew such dealings were rife with complications. It
was crucial to vet every detail thoroughly before any investigation, especially when dealing with
developers with a history of murky dealings with locals.
Decker nodded in understanding. They still had some issues to iron out with the developer-they
couldn't just blindly accept such a significant setback. He knew, deep down, that if they could just
smooth things over with the homeless man, it might not eve make a dent in the Harris Group's
reputation. On the contrary, it could even generate buzz for their upcoming shopping center.
"Alright, that'll be all for now. Keep me posted on any developments,â Nolan instructed.
âYes, Mr. Harris.â

Chapter 274
It wasn't until Decker stepped into the elevator bound for his own office that he allowed himself to
exhale deeply, wiping the sweat from the back of his neck, âReporting to the boss is no walk in the
park.â
Nolan might have been young, but he wasn't easily fooled. It was no fluke that he had steered the
Harris Group to its current standing.
After hanging up the phone, Regina slumped back into her well-worn seat. She hugged her knees to
her chest, a brochure in her hands that she couldn't bring herself to focus on.
For the first time, she began to doubt her choices. Maybe she should have heeded the advice of her
elders-opting for the warmth and comfort of home rather than battling the elements out here in the
cold.
