school had come to an end and i was heading outside of the building to meet with sam. we were hanging at my house today since we hadn't in a while, and because her dad would be at hers.

i got outside and looked around the parking lot for her car, spotting it after a few seconds. she wasn't out here yet so i pulled out my phone and waited by the drivers side.

i opened up buzzfeed and scrolled through the quizzes tab, which happened to be the reason i downloaded the app. none of them were interesting me at the moment so i went to pinterest and scrolled through there. looking up every now and then to see if sam was making her way over.

after adding several pins of food, outfits, and hairstyles to my pinterest boards, i heard my name being called. i averted my attention away from the screen and saw sam coming closer. she waved at me and i returned the gesture, placing my phone back in my pocket.

once she was close enough i brought her into a hug, squeezing her almost as tight as she was squeezing me. we rocked back and forth for an unnecessary amount of time, giggling into each other's shoulders. we finally detached and she smiled at me.

"you smell really good." she said and brought me over to the passenger side.

"so do you." i replied.

sam opened the door for me and i got in, setting my bag down in the backseat. then she went back over to her side and got in, doing the same with her bag. she crunk the car up and turned the air on, since it was a bit hot outside. students wandered the parking lot with no caution so it took a minute before she could pull out without hitting someone. when the bodies stopped coming so sporadically, she pulled off easily, out of the student lot and onto the main road.

i didn't grab the aux today cause i didn't feel like it, i felt like talking.

"how were your classes?" i asked.

"uhhh they were fine, the ones i didn't have with you were pretty boring though." she shrugged, turning at an intersection. i nodded and aimlessly observed her driving stance.

"how were yours?" she asked. i thought back on them so i could give her a real answer.

"a lot of lectures for sure, but they weren't that bad. ms. darbus's was good of course and pre-calc was nice." i replied.

"i swear you the only person i know who likes math," she commenting playfully whilst shaking her head. i rolled my eyes at her.

"math is fun, i like it." i shrugged, grinning.

"only you." she said.

i didn't say anything else and neither did she so i leaned my head against the window, enjoying the quiet. sam connected her phone to the bluetooth and played some music. we both hummed lowly along with the songs, driving the rest of the way in a comfortable silence.

i guess i fell asleep shortly after because i was awoken to sam calling my name. i blinked a couple of times, noticing we were in my driveway and sat up. i let out a small yawn and rubbed at my eyes. sam was watching me from the drivers seat and i glanced at her.

"what?"

"nothin, you just cute," and i faintly smiled at the compliment, even though i probably looked a mess.

she got out and grabbed our bags from the back, then came over to help me get out. i took her hand and we walked to the front door together. my keys were in my bag, which was on her back, so i had to turn sam around and grab them. i fumbled with them for a moment before i found the right one and let us in.

my mom and dad were both working late tonight, so we had the house to ourselves for a couple hours. they usually don't do that because they don't like me being here alone, but i told them sam was coming over so they weren't as worried. and thankfully they trust me enough to know i wouldn't do anything stupid in their house.

"where's ya parents?" sam asked, locking the door behind us.

"they working late, so they won't be here for a while." i replied.

i heard a faint 'oh' and made my way to the kitchen. i didn't eat much of a real lunch today so i was kinda hungry. the fridge was full of food but i didn't feel like warming anything up, so i grabbed some strawberries.

i put more than enough in a bowl, just in case sam wanted some and put them back in the fridge. i hopped up on the counter and began eating them.

"sam?!"

"i'm right here, why you yellin?" she said, walking into the kitchen.

"oh, i didn't know where you went." i shrugged.

she came and stood between my legs, placing both of her hands on the counter beside my thighs.

"what you eatin?"

"strawberries." i replied, which came out muffled since my mouth was full.

"gimme one."

i took one out of the bowl and held it out to her. she took it out of my grasp with her teeth, chewing with her mouth closed.

"where you put our stuff?" i asked, tilting my head curiously.

"in your room, that's where i was," and i nodded.

sam snaked her hands around my waist and sat her chin on my shoulder. i subconsciously wrapped my arms around her neck, leaning into the comfortable position.

"camille is your friend right?" i heard her ask.

"i mean i don't use that term loosely but, yes, i think she will be." i replied.

"did you have any friends before her?"

"not really, i used to have a group of friends but not anymore." i said, a bitter smile settling on my face. sam couldn't see it since i was facing behind her.

"what happened to your group of friends?" i could almost feel her tilt her head in my shoulder, making me grin.

"i wanna tell you but i don't wanna cry." i answered honestly.

sam moved her head from my shoulder and looked at me in concern. "it was that bad?"

"i mean i guess not to them. i think they're still friends till this day, just not with me." i looked down, putting a strawberry in my mouth to distract from her gaze.

"sorry for meddling, you don't have to tell me." she said considerately.

"but i want to... can we go to my room?" i looked up at her and she nodded softly.

i was gonna stand up but, unexpectedly, sam picked me up from the counter. i instinctively wrapped my limbs around her tightly to keep from falling. she carried me up the stairs and into my bedroom, sitting down on the edge of the bed so i was in her lap. she rubbed my back soothingly, waiting until i was ready to talk.

"we had been friends since like seventh grade, so we were really close. their names were eva, denice, and amaya. at the end of tenth grade i wanted to come out to them because i wasn't ready to tell my parents yet, so i did. i thought they would be supportive but they weren't. they told me it was gross and weird, they even took it as far as saying i was probably trying to make a move on one of them. they all told their parents and threatened to tell mine if i didn't stop hanging around them. i felt like i had to because i really wasn't ready for my parents to know yet.

"they continued being friends but they stopped talking to me, blocked me on all their socials and completely cut off contact with me. i couldn't take seeing them at school every day, so i made my parents switch my schools. i didn't tell them why until i came out to them, which was this summer. and after all of that happened i was kind of scared to make new friends here. i mean, people know who i am at school and they know i don't bother anyone. but i haven't taken the initiative to make a real friend."

sam looked at me sympathetically, i think. i couldn't tell that much because my eyes were clouded with tears i wouldn't let fall. i told myself i wouldn't cry about this but it still kinda hurts after saying it out loud, even if it was a year and some ago.

sam wiped my eyes with gentle hands and leaned her forehead against mine.

"i'm sorry they did that to you. some people are just fuckin assholes, if they couldn't love you regardless of that then it was probably better off y'all separated." she said and i nodded.

i stopped sniffling after a moment and we just sat there, observing one another. i saw her glance towards my lips and i hid my smirk.

i found something new. it was small, but she had another beauty mark right in the crevice of her eyelid. i was trying to look at it but she wouldn't keep her eyes closed long enough so i stopped. i diverted my eyes back to hers, which were already staring into mine.

"what're you lookin at?" she asked, smirking.

"you... you look pretty." i said softly. i kid you not she smiled the biggest i've ever seen.

both of our eyes were lowered at this point because we kept looking down; at one another's lips. we were both leaning in but she stopped midway and glanced at me.

"can i kiss you?" she asked.

"yes."

she wasted no time in attaching her lips to mine, kissing me sweetly. her lips were softer than i'd imagined and i nearly melted in her hold.

we pulled away slowly, but another look was all it took for us to kiss again. this time it was greedy but with the same gentle element. i cupped her face in my hands and i felt hers caress my waist. my heart beat picked up as we both let out small breathes, damn near moans.

we were getting a bit carried away.

sam pulled away and took my bottom lip with her, slowly letting it go with a pop. our chests rose and fell as we panted lightly. sam grinned at me with low eyes and i returned the gesture.

"you look high..." she said and i giggled, smushing her head.

"so do you bubba."
