"Are you using that?" someone asked from behind me. I turned around to see a girl with brown hair and big, pretty eyes, her eyeshadow beautifully done. I looked at what she was pointing at, a big bottle of vodka on the counter.
"I was planning on it. That cool?" I asked.
"Yeah, just take some now so I can have the rest. I don't like sharing once I have it to myself," she said. Greed? Gluttony?
"Do you want to do some shots together?" I offered. I wanted to figure out which one she was.
"Sure! I'll probably be doing more than you, though. When I drink, I drink," she said. Overindulgence. Definitely gluttony. "I'm Devyn. Dev."
"I'm Jupiter," I replied, grabbing two little plastic shot glasses for us. I filled them up and we both downed them.
"Have you been here before? I feel like I would remember that hair," she said.
"I have not," I replied. We both took another shot.
"How did you get it so bright? And your roots are nonexistent! Are you a really light blonde? Do you just dye your eyebrows?"
"Oh, I just bleach it really light before I dye it. And I just got it touched up the other day," I lied. That was always my excuse when people pointed out how unique it was.
"It's like glowing, though," she said.
"Yeah, I know," I replied.
"No, like literally," she said. What? I reached up and grabbed a strand of my hair and saw a soft red glow radiating from it. Like, actual light, as if my hair suddenly absorbed a bunch of energy into it or something. "Kat!" Devyn called. A girl with blue hair walked over.
"Mhm?" Kat asked. I decided that everyone at this party was completely wasted.
"Is her hair not glowing right now?" Dev asked.
"I don't know, dude. I'm too drunk for this," Kat laughed. "Are you not? Usually you're already blackout, miss binge drinker," Kat teased. Dev was 100% gluttony. Was Kat one of them, too? "I wish I could do that like you. It's so cool how you can just keep drinking and never get sick from it."
"Oh, stop with that. We've discussed this a million times. You don't have to be jealous of everyone for everything they do that you can't," Dev laughed. She filled up the shot glasses again and we drank. Was Kat envy? I took a deep breath and tried to focus on lowering my heart rate with some breathing techniques. Maybe that would make my hair go back to normal. It seemed to actually work.
"And you don't even make a face after a shot of vodka! Man, I am out of my league here," Kat said.
"Sorry, she just gets so envious when she's drunk. Worse than normal," Dev said, locking eyes with Kat to share a small giggle. Totally envy.
"I want to do one with you guys," Kat said, grabbing herself a plastic cup. We all took one more shot, and I decided that four of straight vodka was much more than enough for me. I'd be hammered in a few minutes, but at least I got to find out two more. I'd figured out four so far, not including Mike and Brennen. I wasn't sure which sin they would be, if any. And since the sins seemed to be a real thing, who's to say there aren't other weird types of things? The alcohol was definitely helping me believe in this stuff a little more. It was too ridiculous to comprehend when sober. For me, at least.
"More?" Dev asked. I shook my head.
"You go on ahead, I'm all set," I said. My head was already fogging up. I hadn't drank in a while. I missed the feeling.
I left Kat and Dev at the small counter and wandered back over to the kitchen to see if Colby was still there. The game of beer pong had ended and the crowd in the kitchen has dissipated. There was actually room to walk now. Colby and the blonde guy he'd been playing against earlier were leaned against the far side of the island, facing away from me. They were talking to a guy with a manbun. I walked over, having to pay attention to walking a little more than usual. I could walk in heels and I could walk drunk but doing the two together somehow didn't quite work for me. I was fully capable of it, it just took a little more focus.
I walked over to them and stepped sideways, leaning myself against the counter like Colby and his friend were doing. Colby turned to look at who I was and his face immediately lit up.
"Jupiter! You're here!" he exclaimed.
"Have been for at least an hour. Been pretty eventful so far," I said.
"Yeah? How so?" he asked.
"Well, within my first thirty seconds of being here, I decided that I might as well listen to your friend Jake and kissed some random girl. And then Mike recognized me from, uh, my work. But he didn't believe it was really me cause of what I look like. And then he and Brennen got all butthurt when Mike told me to drop my attitude and I told him not to tell me what to do," I explained. The guy with the bun choked on his drink when I said the last part.
"Bro, what?" he said.
"Shut it, Corey. What else?" Colby asked. I shrugged.
"Met Dev and Kat. I'm assuming you know them?" I asked.
"Dev's Corey's girlfriend and Kat is Sam's," said Colby.
"And Sam is...?" I asked.
"Oh, this guy," Colby said, pointing to the blonde dude. Sam gave me a small wave. "And did you happen to join Dev in drinking?" Colby asked. I probably seemed at least a little drunk. I knew I didn't look as drunk as I was, though, which was very.
"Sure did," I replied.
"Oof," Corey chuckled. "No one can handle their liquor like she can."
"Girl likes to overindulge," I said, trying to subtly drop hints that I was onto them. I know that Colby had blatantly told me he was Wrath and Satan, but there was no way he expected me to actually believe him. And how could he be both?
Sam let out a short cough when I said overindulge, shooting a glance at Colby. But Colby was still looking at me. He gave me a half smile. That look could just about convince me to do anything. But not like he seemed to think it would on everyone else. I still had complete control over my actions and words around them. I again wondered how many other people could do that.
"You met Tara yet? Jake's girlfriend?" Colby asked.
"I don't think so," I said. I hoped she wasn't the girl with the green hair.
"Tara," Colby said at a normal volume.
"Coming!" I heard a girl yell from far away.
"How did she hear that?" I asked.
"Yeah, Colby. How did she hear that?" Sam said through gritted teeth. He didn't want me to know their secret but he knew I was somehow catching on.
A short girl walked up. Her hair was brown with two blonde streaks in the front. She was honestly adorable. But I of all people was not one to judge character based off of looks.
"What's up, boss?" she asked. Boss can be a nickname, but she didn't sound like she was using it as one. Was Colby in charge of the sins?
I thought for a second. Assuming Mike and Brennen were something else, the only remaining sins that were left were pride, sloth, and greed.
"This is Jupiter," Colby said, putting his hand on the small of my back. We both flinched when the skin of his hands touched the skin of my back. He'd shocked me, hard. It hurt pretty damn bad.
"Ow!" Colby hissed.
"What the fuck!" I yelped.
"Dude," Sam said, his face full of panic.
"I'll, uh, I'll be back," Colby said quickly, walking away,
"The hell was that?" I asked.
"He just shocked you," Corey said casually.
"Yeah, real damn bad. That seriously hurt," I said, rubbing the spot he'd touched.
"Hm. Strange," Sam said, clearly knowing exactly what had just happened.
"Well anyway," Tara quickly said, changing the subject. "I'm Tara. I'm the cool one," she said, holding out her hand. I hesitantly reached out and shook it, but there was no shock this time. "What are you two losers doing over here?" she asked Sam and Corey.
"Stop acting like you're better than us," Corey snapped.
"At least I do something," Tara shot back. Sloth. Corey was sloth.
"So do you guys all live here?" I asked. Tara and Sam could be pride and greed if they did. I'd just have to figure out which is which, even thought Tara was on a pretty clear path to being pride.
"Yeah. Me, Dev, Kat, Sam, Tara, Jake, and Colby," Corey said.
"Not Mike and Brennen?" I asked.
"No... not...no. They visit every now and then, though," Corey said. They were withholding information yet again. They were probably much better at managing this kind of thing while sober. I'm guessing people at parties never pressed onto them like this. I was catching them off guard. Now which one was pride and which one was greed?
"You guys sure do have a lot of friends for these crazy parties," I said.
"Thank you," Tara said. Was that really a compliment?
"I could always use more," Sam said. Bingo. Tara was pride. Sam was greed.
