Today was the day, their first day of the new school year. Aizawa was reviewing his student's profiles to get a first impression, lingering on Midoriya's file a little bit longer. All Might hadn't shut up about it. He was convinced this kid had multiple quirks and was in league with All For One, wherever that ancient villain may be right now. Aizawa didn't believe an evil like that could just die, so he must be in hiding somewhere.
But what he was doing or why remained a mystery until a new lead gave them some kind of explanation. Shouta wasn't convinced All For One was building up his ranks or creating an army. If he did, why would he have eliminated all his previous allies? All Might found their bodies after connecting the dots to the super villain. That's why they knew All For One wanted to disappear, leave the organization he'd built up and leave nothing of himself behind.
It was definitely strange, to say the least... Aizawa sighed, placing the file down again as he glanced aside at the number one hero. His giant frame and muscle was kinda hard to miss, even if he didn't want to be noticed.
"As far as I know, you don't have a homeroom class to welcome to school today so what are you doing here? Please don't say spy on Midoriya" the black haired man groaned.
"My suspicions are rarely wrong, Eraser" he stated, crossing his arms.
"If I find you watching my class today, something is going to be wrong, you hear me? I don't need the first years getting distracted by the number one hero tailing them" Aizawa frowned, standing up behind his desk as All Might entered the room.
"That kid is dangerous, Eraser! We can't allow him to go unsupervised-!"
"I will be there, won't I?" Aizawa hissed, now glaring at the larger man.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to prepare for my homeroom class"
He was fed up by All Might at this point, throwing out accusations without any proof or very little to go on. Aizawa had respect for the pro hero, just like anyone else, but it was starting to fade the more time he actually got to spend with the guy.
Sure, he was a great hero and saving people and fighting the bad guys was what he's best at but man, could he be obsessed and have paranoia... Anything but an investigator, so it seemed. That's probably why he has such close ties with the police investigation department.
"Fine. But if you see anything suspicious, anything at all-" All Might spoke, making Aizawa sigh.
"Yes, you'll be the first to hear about it" Shouta sighed.
"...Alright! Well, this, uh, this was a nice conversation... I'll see you around, Eraser!" All Might smiled, trying to ignore the uneasy atmosphere.
"Yes..." Aizawa said slowly, watching the man leave his classroom before he sighed and dragged a hand down his face.
Sometimes that man could be so exhausting... And Shouta was already tired enough as it is, thank you very much. Having insomnia isn't a great trait for a hero, or a great trait in general. He grabbed the student files and put them away in his desk. Time to get one last coffee from the teacher's lounge before he had to face a class full of hero hopefuls...
...
Katsuki stared at his phone with a blank look as the green head next to him brimmed with excitement. He was scrolling through his social media while they rode the train to UA, seeing all their old classmates post pictures of them at their new high school and in their uniforms and stuff like that. High school was a big deal after middle school and if you got into the school of your choice it was to be expected you'd put it out on the internet.
"Oi, stop that" the ash blonde mumbled, hitting Izuku's leg. He just wouldn't sit still!
"I-I can't help it Kacchan! I'm just so happy!" Izuku giggled, holding onto his bag with a big dumb smile on his face. His eyes literally lit up and Katsuki rolled his eyes. The green energy flashes that struck like lightning in that emerald green sky had always mesmerized him. Ever since he got his quirk, his eyes always did that when he got super excited and happy. It was childish, but it held some charm to it...
"I wonder what their quirks will be like... They must be strong if they got into the hero course, right?"
"You and your damn quirk obsession... Keep it down, will you? You'll attract unwanted attention" Bakugou said, frowning when he saw the spark in Midoriya's eyes disappear.
"I-I know... You don't have to constantly remind me, Kacchan"
Their conversation fell silent, their stop coming up soon anyway.
They walked next to each other as they approached the gate, just like they did on the day of the entrance exam.
"Oi, wait up for a second" Katsuki said, grabbing Izuku's wrist and turning him around, quickly snapping a picture of them in front of the gate, making sure their uniforms were visible.
"Wh-wha-? Kacchan?" Deku asked, confused, not understanding what just happened.
"All those extras from middle school are posting about their first day of high school and I'm not letting them enjoy that without rubbing it in their faces that we're in fucking UA" he grinned, tapping away at his phone as he posted the picture on his social media. Izuku chuckled, looking over Katsuki's shoulder to see what caption he'd use. Around them other students arrived bit by bit and they soon followed their example, going to their homeroom classroom.
They were lucky to end up in the same class, class 1-A. Katsuki was the one to open the door, seeing the classroom already halfway filled with their new classmates. He noticed the spark returned to Izuku's eyes as he glanced around the room, probably picking up on all of their quirks.
"So? Seeing anything good?" Katsuki laughed, elbowing the green head.
"Not funny Kacchan!" Izuku whined, pouting a little before they both laughed and walked over to their seats. It was arranged by number and they got it ahead of time in the mail together with all the other official paperwork from school. It was a coincidence that Izuku sat behind Kacchan, but a happy coincidence at that. The two of them just sat down when a girl entered the room, a gasp sounding through the air.
"You're that plain looking one! From the entrance exam!" she smiled, instantly all over Midoriya. Bakugou rolled his eyes, sitting down at his desk and swinging his feet on his desk.
"T-that's me" Izuku stuttered, trying to hide his embarrassment as he held up his arms. Did she really have to call him out like that? He couldn't afford to attract too much attention!
"You smashed that giant zero pointer like it was nothing! That was awesome!" she exclaimed, making some heads turn.
"What is your quirk? How did you do that?"
"O-oh, uh, t-telekinesis" Izuku stuttered while Iida walked up to Bakugou.
"Don't put your feet on the table! It's disrespectful towards our upperclassmen who once used these desks!"
"And who the hell are you huh? Fuck off glasses!" Katsuki barked.
"K-Kacchan!" Izuku whisper hissed, pouting at his childhood friend.
"Ugh, fine! You're such a baby, Deku"
"Oh? The two of you know each other?" Uraraka asked, surprised.
"My name is Uraraka Ochako by the way!"
"M-Midoriya Izuku" Izuku responded with a nervous smile.
"A-and this is-"
"So you're the round cheeks this nerd saved during the entrance exam huh?" Katsuki asked, standing up to face her.
"R-round cheeks..?" she squealed, quickly covering up her cheeks.
"You shouldn't talk like that to your fellow classmates!" Iida stated, his hands chopping the air for god knows what reason. It was a little weird but Izuku was never one to judge people. Certainly not with his background and his father's work with troubled children and teens.
"Oh shut up! Who are you anyway?" Katsuki growled.
"My name is Iida Tenya! I am from-"
"Don't fucking care, glasses" Katsuki interrupted.
"Kacchan!" Izuku gasped, slapping him on his arm.
"It's our first day, you promised to be nice"
They stared at each other for a few seconds before the ash blonde groaned.
"Fine... The name is Bakugou Katsuki and don't even think you can beat me cause I'm better than any of you damn extras"
"I-I'm sorry for Kacchan..." Izuku sighed, scratching the back of his head, freezing up when he saw a man in a yellow sleeping bag crawling into the classroom like a caterpillar. Was that...Eraserhead..?
His face looked vaguely familiar from the briefing his dad gave him about the pro heroes teaching here. He wanted Izuku to be as prepared as he could be, to know which teachers were to be avoided and to be careful around. Where he got the intel, the green head didn't know, but it was great to be prepared nonetheless. Katsuki followed his gaze, frowning.
"What the hell is that?"
"I'm glad you asked" Aizawa said, standing up from his sleeping bag, fully clothed. Meanwhile the whole class had fallen silent, all staring at the man in question.
"It took you way too long to shut up. When you're a hero in training every second counts. My name is Aizawa Shouta and I'll be your homeroom teacher this year. Now get moving and put on your sports uniform"
"W-what about orientation..?" someone asked.
"Are you here to become heroes or what? Get ready"
"What a grump" Katsuki mumbled towards Izuku, making the green head chuckle.
"That grump is Eraserhead, for your information. He can erase the quirk of everyone he looks at" Izuku explained.
"He mostly works as an underground hero, taking villains by ambush and surprise so he isn't really that well known amongst civilians"
"You sure know your stuff!"
Izuku yelped as Uraraka was suddenly next to him when they were walking towards the changing rooms.
"I-I guess I-I'm sort o-of a-a fanb-boy..." he answered, giving her a nervous smile. His family knew about his quirk and about the low key obsession that came with it. It was normal for him to freak out over quirks, mostly heroes though because their quirks were public knowledge.
"Sort of?" Katsuki snorted, not amused by the fact that round face just forced herself into their conversation.
"Oh shush" Izuku chuckled, elbowing his friend.
"Aizawa sensei is also the teacher with the most students expelled on his record, especially on the first day and in the first week of school. He's brutal"
"Ha, you better make sure not to pull anything then" Katsuki answered, making Izuku become serious again. Right, he couldn't stand out or get unwanted attention...
"Yeah... Let's both do our best!" the green head said with a forced smile as they split from Uraraka to go into the boy's locker room.
"Ugh, I don't like that chick... Why did you have to save her again?"
"Kacchan!"
"What? That robot would've stopped anyway, UA isn't gonna let someone die at the entrance exam idiot" Katsuki countered, making Izuku roll his eyes.
"Just get changed, you jerk"
"Nerd" Katsuki snickered, making Izuku push him.
Of course the ash blonde pushed back and soon the two of them were engaged in a mini fight with bickering while the other guys looked at them in confusion.
"The two of you know each other huh? I wish I got into UA with a friend" Kaminari laughed.
"Oh yeah? Wanna switch?"Â Bakugou asked, making Midoriya pout.
"You're so mean Kacchan!" he whined before turning to the one who spoke up.
"But yeah, Kacchan and I go way back! We've known each other our whole lives since our moms are friends"
"Oh childhood friends huh? That's super manly!" a red head exclaimed.
"Mostly super annoying" Katsuki added, yet he was grinning, showing he didn't actually mean it. Izuku rolled his eyes, simply continuing to get changed into his sports uniform.
He was super nervous for this first day, afraid to screw up. But everything was going smoothly so far and he might actually make some new friends! People in middle school always lumped him in with problem children due to his home situation and his father's work, thinking it was weird and he was only trouble...
Kacchan was also considered a problem child, seeing he had anger issues, so nobody thought it was weird he hung out with Izuku despite actually being quite popular. Maybe these people would understand his family was helping these unfortunate people? They were all trying to be heroes after all! But for now it was probably better to stay quiet about it... He didn't want to ruin his chances on any potential friendship.
