Chapter 9: Chapter 9 - An Unexpected Embrace

“Sorry!” Secretary Jin interrupted her directly, “President Duan is having a meeting in the conference room on the top floor so he won’t see anyone right now. Miss, if you really have something important to tell him, I hope you could make an appointment in advance next time. Now, please get out of here.”

Jin’s eviction irritated He Yueyu. “Hey, his first priority now should be seeing me at once and I believe Duan Weiqi would like to see me very much. If you prevent him from meeting me now, you will be sure to regret it… ”

The more she said, the more Secretary Jin went mad. She called security in at once, “Drive this insane woman away!”

“What?” He Yueyu was furious. Suddenly, two tall security guards appeared behind her and each took one of her arms. Then she was pushed out of the building radically.

What’s wrong with them? How could his employees treat guests like this!

She had intended to call Duan Weiqi directly and meet him here at the reception, but when she thought of his attitude in the morning, she was afraid that he might even scold her after receiving her call. Since he was at meeting, she didn’t want to be given a cold shoulder again.

Then, two men wearing clothes of a maintenance company passed by, and one of them said, “Jinfeng Bank is indeed one of the biggest banks in the world! Few companies are willing to replace such an expensive ventilation fan.”

The other agreed, “Yep, who has wealth speaks louder than others.”

Huh? Ventilation fan?

A sudden inspiration came to her mind.

The two men drove a small truck and turned into a nearby intersection. He Yueyu stalked them in a trot and saw the truck stopped at the back alley of the building.

She watched them climbing the ladder to remove an old ventilation fan. Soon she knew it was her chance. She went to them and said hello with a friendly smile.

“Hey guys, it’s almost noon. Our manager said you had had a hard day. He just prepared a very delicious work meal for you and you can continue after lunch.”

The two people who were preparing to mount the new fan on the air vent just now looked at each other in surprise. “Work meal? This bank is so generous.”

“Yeah,” the other agreed, “Miss, where shall we go to have our work meals?”

“Of course it’s in the reception room. Hurry up, it won’t taste delicious when it’s cold.”

“But our repair tools…”

“No worries, I’ll help you keep an eye on them here.”

“Miss, you are so nice.” The man smiled shyly.

“Well, it’s my pleasure.” She grinned.

After having thanked He Yueyu and put away their tools, they hurried to the reception room to enjoy their lunch. Seeing the two disappeared in front of her eyes, He Yue smirked. It was so lucky that they were as gullible as her butler.

She stood under the air vent and estimate the height for a while. If she was right, as long as she could climb up to the second floor, she could take the elevator to the conference room on the top floor.

Humph! Just two guards could never stop me to see Duan Weiqi. She murmured. Also she didn’t like that arrogant Secretary Jin. When she thought of her, she had a resistant feeling unreasonably.

She climbed the ladder to the exit of air vent. The only thing she could believe right now was that this air vent could lead her to the second floor.

She still remembered when she was a kid, once her dearest dad had taken her to his office building. She was very naughty at that time and wanted to play hide and seek with her dad. Obviously, the office building of Ling’s Group was a huge concrete jungle for hide and seek. Finally, she found a secret place that no one could find her, the air vent.

After a long waiting to be found, she was tired of hiding, and fell asleep unconsciously in the air vent. However, she didn’t know that her dad actually asked the police for help to find her until she woke up again to see the worried face of him.

Since then, her parents had strictly forbidden her to approach the air vent again. Also, she knew for the first time that the air vent was a special but dangerous pipe that could lead to many offices in the building.

“Sorry Dad, forgive me this time.” She said to herself.

Though the space of air vent was limited, fortunately she was thin enough to climb in.

To tell the truth, He Yueyu admitted that Jinfeng Bank’s office building was constructed in a high quality; even the air vents were smooth and solid. She slowly crawled forward along the direction of the air vents.

When she took a break, she would observe the condition outside through the hollow part of air vent. It seemed that Duan Weiqi did run a good business. The staff members of his bank were all busy with their own work.

He Yueyu climbed for a long time, but didn’t know how far she had gone. She just felt limp all over with soreness and weakness on her knees. God, where was she now?

She hesitated in a bitter face that whether she should continue to move forward or stop right now. Was I lost? She wondered.

“Oh my God! WHAT IS THAT?”

A large gray rat suddenly appeared not far away from her, and its two small bean eyes blinked frequently in the half-light air vents. Apparently, the rat was also frightened by her appearance.

She and the rat were stiffened simultaneously. It seemed that no one dared to cross the line easily.

He Yueyu was so scared that she was still in a cold sweat, “Don… don’t come here, I warn you, I… I master karate and taekwondo… If you dare to come, I… I… I’ll kill you without mercy…”

She threatened the rat, but the rat tipped and looked blankly at her for her words.

“You don’t understand English? Ok, it doesn’t matter. I can repeat it in French…” He Yueyu tried to communicate with the rat in a pale face.

But the rat ignored her threat and came towards her slowly.

“AHHH… don’t come here…”

She frightened back in a hurry and pulled out her cell phone to dial Duan Weiqi’s number quickly. As soon as it was connected, she screamed hoarsely.

“Help… GEEEEEEEZ… it’s going to attack me… AHHHHHH…”

Duan Weiqi was discussing with his subordinates in the conference room when he received the call from He Yueyu. He got up from the leather chair in a hurry for the scream from the phone. People in the conference room were all stunned by the behavior of their boss, let alone the long-haired beauty with a gold-rimmed glasses sitting at a short distance.

“Yueyu?” Her terrified scream worried Duan Weiqi. “What the hell is going on? Where are you now?”

“I’m in the air vent of your office building, and there’s a big rat in front of me who wants to come and bite me, HELP!!!”

He Yueyu’s small white face was all covered with dust when she was discovered.

Scratches spread all over her clothes and her unkempt long hair was pasted on the cheek. No one looked like a clown more than she was.

Duan Weiqi stared gravely at He Yueyu, who looked more embarrassed than a beggar. Behind him, followed a group of pleasure-seekers.

Two tall security personnel lifted He Yueyu out of the air vent. When she saw Duan Weiqi, the grievances and fears accumulated in her heart erupted at once.

She threw herself at him, who seemed as a long-lost relative of her, “Waa… that stinky mouse bullied me… Waah…”

Her aggrieved and loud howl shocked all the people there.

Duan Weiqi didn’t expect that she would fall into his arms in full view of everyone. There was no sign of this intimate embrace so he just caught her instinctively.

But when he heard her crying and saw her tears, he felt a sharp pain in his chest.

Not far from Duan Weiqi, the woman in business suit narrowed her eyes slightly and strode to them.

“Miss, why were you in the air vent of this building? Don’t you know your behavior is suspicious enough to be turned into the police?”

He Yueyu was crying with grievance so she didn’t recognize the voice of Secretary Jin until she shifted her eyes to her face. That haughty woman!

The anger in her heart suddenly burst out, “It’s all your fault. If it wasn’t you, should I need to see him in this way?”

Duan Weiqi frowned. “Can anyone explain it to me? What is going on?”

The woman in business suit took one-step ahead and said, “This woman just came here and wanted to see you, but she didn’t make an appointment. Business was business. I just did what I should do and asked security to drive her out.”
