Chapter 1028 Coward Samuel saw the seriousness in Natalieâs eyes. Of course, I knew how she felt about me. Itâs just that I never thought the poison in me would relapse one day after staying dormant all these years.
Despite the profound affection in his heart, he resigned himself to his fate with the passage of time.
Not knowing what to say, Samuel pressed his lips to hers as he found himself drowning in desolation.
The kiss was so gentle that it was engraved in her bones.
They did not express their feelings out loud, but their kiss had revealed too much grief and longing.
When their lips finally separated, Natalie blinked away the sadness in her eyes and put on a smile. âItâs my fault today. I promise this will be my last time saying anything depressing. After today, weâll spend every day in our lives happily together.â
Samuel ruffled her hair lovingly and cooed, âOkay, Iâll listen to everything you say.â
âMs. Leitz asked to meet with me tonight...â She paused to glance at the clock hanging on the wall. âItâs almost time. I have to go now, or Iâll be late.â
âMs. Leitz?â The man narrowed his eyes. What Ms. Leitz? Which Ms. Leitz?
âMs. Helma from the Leitz family.â Natalie continued, âI think she wants to meet me to discuss the custom-made jewelry for the banquet. Maybe she changed her mind about our previous agreement and wants to tell it to me face to face.â
Samuel had always been respectful about her work, so he would not interfere with all her business affairs. Yet, that time, he voiced, âDid Ms. Leitz give you a call personally?â
âNo.â Natalie shook her head. âIt was her subordinate, I think.â
âIâll accompany you.â
âI donât think thereâs a need for that,â she said, thinking it would be troublesome for him. âEven though you have Steven managing the Bowers Corporation in your stead, you canât be my driver the entire day. Itâs a waste of talent!â
Samuelâs eyes darkened. âIâll not only accompany you today...â
âWhat are you planning on doing?â
âIâll settle some of my problems today,â he replied contemplatively, then pinched her cheeks adoringly. âYou donât have to go out of your way to learn about it. You just have to know I wonât let anyone harm you. Think of it as a show if youâre bored.â
The couple had been through so much together, so they knew each other like the back of their hands.
When Natalie heard Samuelâs words, her eyes twinkled, and she smiled flirtatiously. âIâll be watching from the sidelines then.â
Two hours later, Heidi sat at a dining table, facing a screen that was playing the live feed of surveillance cameras.
She watched as the woman on the screen entered the reserved private room in the restaurant.
As her lips quirked, a hint of malice flashed across her eyes. Despite holding the fork and knife elegantly, she had cut the steak into tiny bits.
âNatalie Nichols, you took the bait just as I expected!â
Heidi cut up the entire steak but did not take a single bite of it. Instead, she sipped on her wine and watched the womanâs every movement from the screen. When she saw the woman in the private room pass out after taking a sip of her drink, her smile grew wider. The cruelty in her eyes could barely be concealed.
The subordinate who stood beside her was terrified and asked hesitantly, âMs. Heidi, I donât think itâs appropriate for you to make a move on her secretly. After all, sheâs Ms. Helmaâs friend.â
Heidi picked up her fork and stabbed it toward her subordinateâs eye.
âAh!â her subordinate shrieked instinctively.
However, the fork halted less than a centimeter from the subordinateâs eyeball.
âWhat a coward!â
Seeing the frightened look on her subordinateâs face, Heidi felt thrilled and laughed gleefully.
âWhat are you scared of? No one will know Iâm the mastermind as long as everything wraps up smoothly.â Heidi looked toward the screen with a sharp gaze while a bloodthirsty grin played about her lips. âStop behaving so timidly! Youâre so useless!â
