Nothing happened the previous days as we followed Misato but we never found out anything about the guy we are searching for. Hell, there wasnât even a Zonniki to have fun with because of some weird law issued in secret by the Prime Minister. It was that day, that something happened. I and Arismis were stationed in front of the school where Misato, the girl I gave my ice powers, goes and we hid our presence by concentrating the auras around us, not only we were undetectable to the human eye but to other Zonnikies as well. The girlâs mind canât contain anymore those untrained powers, her moment to develop a black aura is close and this would have been our last opportunity to discover who between her teachers was our target.
âThe moment to meet this greater evil is almost here. Killing that will help the worldâ¦â I thought with a little smile forming on my face.
Suddenly, Arimis woke me from my thoughts with a nudge and told me âSheâs hereâ while looking to my left. I looked in the same direction and saw my Misato slowly walking towards the gate, she looked pale and had big dark circles under her eyes and her fingertips were peach black, these were the first physical symptoms of an incumbent black aura, there are also other symptoms but it mostly varies from person to person(same for when it can happen). When she passed in front of us, Arismis slightly touched her arm with his fingers and she didnât react whatsoever like she didnât even feel that and simply continued walking.
Shortly after Misato surpassed the front gate, someone started screaming.
âItâs timeâ¦â Arismis said and looked at me. I nodded in response and we both started following Misato, who started her rampage.
Some of the students were already frozen to the bone and Misato was right at the entrance of the school, where the lockers were situated, her fingers were fully black, her breath was visible because of how cold the place was getting already and her gaze seemed lost while she was attacking every student that was in her sight. She was agile, almost on the same level as mine, whatever she touched instantly froze, she even removed her shoes to be able to use her feet to freeze the floor and made it spread like it was some kind of virus.
I thought that was incredible and it wasnât my first time seeing someone with a black aura, but every time I had to kill it without having the time to look at how good they were, this time was different. I could look at her and understand a lot, the way that power was controlling her body made it possible for it to use its full potential, this is the reason why for a normal Zonniki would be difficult to fully use any power and only skilled ones can do it.
When she finished on the ground floor went up to the first floor where other students were hiding and she continued to use the same attacks, just slightly touching them, breathing out right in front of their faces or simply using the ice coming out from under her feet, but she never tried to actually hurt someone and made them spill some blood.
âThatâs the peculiarity of a black aura.â Arismis suddenly said and I looked at him, he looked even more fascinated than I was, he continued speaking âThe powers control you, they want you to eat more and kill more, but some people will have a slightly stronger mind than average and they will be able to change just something but not everythingâ¦sheâs one of them. Man, she would have been a great Zonnikiâ¦what a great loss it will be.â he sounded sad at the end and for me, it was the first time seeing him having compassion towards someone.
We continued following her to the second floor, I got closer to the windows and saw outside that soldiers were grouping in front of the school gate, I immediately warned Arismis but he reassured me
âThatâs fine, I asked some acquaintance to send some soldiers. They are thinking they will get some plans in the next few minutes, instead, they will stand there in case some nuisance comes to ruin our plans.â
After that explanation we continued following Misato to the third floor, she was less agile and looked already tired, meanwhile, I was getting preoccupied since that was the last floor of this school and there was no trace of our target. But all hopes were quickly restored when I looked outside the window again, a guy was able to surpass the guards and was running towards the school. I thought this was also planned and said it with calm at Arismis, but his face changed from calm to confused and admitted âThatâ¦wasnât planned.â I looked at him preoccupied, this was the first time that something that wasnât in his plans happened.

âLetâs just wait and see how things go.â he decided and I nodded in response, then looked back at Misato, she was already finishing her job on that floor and my preoccupation was replaced by surprise when she stopped moving and was just looking at the 3 remaining students.
âYouâ¦ruinedâ¦everythingâ¦.â she said slowly while her gaze was changing âItâsâ¦all yourâ¦faultâ Her eyes became bloody âIâmâ¦hungryâ¦â After saying that, she took one of the students for the neck and a few seconds later, the guy I saw reached us and went towards Misato, trying to reason with her.
He had brown hair, unnatural golden eyes and he had a creased turquoise shirt and brown pants, while looking at him I started thinking âIs he crazy or what? Heâs going to get himselfâ¦killedâ¦â As I thought this I noticed something about him and I said to Arismis
âHis aura is red with some weird black spots in it, should we do something?â but he simply shook his head
âLetâs see what happens..â
I looked back at the guy and in just a few minutes he was able to reason with Misato and let her leave the student and get close to him, there was some hope in her eyes
âIs he one of her teachers? Heâs so young, maybe around my ageâ¦â I thought
When Misato was close enough, the guyâs smile slowly disappeared and said he was sorry, then the girl suddenly close her eyes and when she was about to fall, the guy took her body and gently posed her on the ground.
âHow did she dieâ¦?â I asked, waiting for an answer from Arismis and took him a few seconds to actually say something
âIt doesnât matter nowâ¦heâs our targetâ then he put a hand on my shoulder knowing I was ready to attack âbut we wonât attack todayâ¦itâs not the right time.â
âWhy itâs not the right time?â I asked and he promptly answered
âJust watchâ¦â shortly after, soldiers arrived and surrounded the guy and what happened next, both disgusted and fascinated me. A massacre happened and not even the three students survived, used as they were just tools but from the guyâs gaze it was clear he wasnât doing it off the thirst for blood, he looked in a state of trance and those moves seemed programmed, what was going on in his head? But was seriously amazed was his strength. After that, a girl in a white dress, grey eyes, long black and slightly pale skin, appeared and my eyes opened wide at her aura, it was black, pure evil but also familiar
âIt was herâ¦she talked to me from the motherâs bodyâ¦why is she here?â I thought and both the girl and the guy seemed to know each other, they were arguing about something but there was some kind of interference, like some kind of glitch, and I couldnât understand most of the things, apart from one thing, the guyâs name was Dai. While they were still speaking, a red portal appeared close to them and footsteps could be heard coming from the lower floors, other soldiers were coming.
At some point, they both stopped speaking and the guy, who looked a bit pissed off, went through the red portal, meanwhile, the girl stood there for some seconds before looking at us. A shiver was sent down my spine and I didnât know what to do. I wasnât completely sure if she was actually evil despite her aura and it didnât look like she was going to attack; she just stared at us for some seconds before going through the portal, which quickly closed afterwards.
We decided to leave the place through the window and while walking towards the gate I said
âI understand now why you wanted to stop me.â I looked at Arismis âThat guy was as strong as me andâ¦he was too similar to me in some way, I wouldnât have given my 100%â
He smiled âIâm happy you understood. Anyway, we found who our target is, thatâs the important thing.â
âYeah, the mission is just delayedâ I thought while putting a hand on my chest
âBut whyâ¦the more we go forward, the more everything feels offâ¦What am I missingâ¦?â Suddenly, in my mind popped off that girl âI have to find her againâ¦maybe she has an answer-â
Suddenly, I noticed something shining between the corpses and I quickly reached it with a hand, it was a metal wristwatch but the clasp was broken, plus it was still saturated in the Daiâs aura.
I was going to show it to Arismis but I decided to keep it for myself, fortunately, he didnât notice me and it must stay like this. What Iâm going to do next, will put me in danger.
