Someone’s poking me.

Groaning, I slumped my hand over the one which was poking me and shoved it away. With my other hand, I fisted the warm fluffy blanket and brushed my face against it.

So warm. So fluffy. So nice-

Poke. And another one, followed by a whisper that sounded like the speaker was suppressing the urge to burst out laughing.

“Bethany. Bethany wake up.”

“Five minutes.” I grumbled against the blanket and swatted his hand away.

I heard the speaker sigh out loud. “You said that the past half hour.”

“Please?” I pleaded. I love sleeping.

“You asked that too every time I woke you up.” He said.

Without any warning, the warm fluffy blanket that was wrapped around me making me a burrito was yanked off my body leaving me vulnerable to the cold morning weather- especially now that it was almost fall.

That woke me up. I sat up straight, the sudden cold waking up all of my senses then glared at the culprit. Blake sat on the edge of the bed with a sheepish smile.

After the second movie last night- so much for a movie marathon, we were both tired and decided it was time to sleep. Blake offered to let me stay the night since it was already very late and I was too tired to drive so I didn’t bother putting up a fight.

However when we reached his bedroom and realized that he only had one bed (Allie’s bed was not an option here since it was too small) all the sleepiness in me died. I was going to share a bed with Blake freaking Greene. Of course I wanted to jump like kangaroo.

It was really awkward at first but then the power of sleep was too strong for us to be able to resist so we fell asleep less than ten minutes after we lied down.

“Well that did the trick.” He grinned.

“I’m cold.” I said, rubbing my arms where goose bumps started to appear.

And he had to lend me some of his clothes because we all know how uncomfortable sleeping in jeans is. Speaking of clothes…

My eyes wander off to the desk where I had neatly folded my clothes and found my purple lace bra on top. Again, sleeping with a bra is very uncomfortable and last night, it was dark so I just put it on top without thinking and now it’s exposed for the world to see.

“Don’t worry Bethany.” He smirked. “Purple looks good on you.”

My face heated up as I turned away to avoid him. This is so embarrassing!

“You’re beautiful.” He said. “And very cute when you blush. You should blush more often.”

Seriously? He wants me to blush more often? Earth to Blake, I blush too much as is!

“No way.” I shook my head. “I think I might have some kind of excessive blushing disease.

“I’m just kidding.” He commented. “You blush a lot. See? You’re blushing already.”

“What did you want from me?” I scowled. He woke me up to tell me that I blush a lot. That is not a good enough reason.

“Oh, right.” He said. “Where did you put the Tylenol? I need it.”

I sighed. “Right, right.”

Kicking my legs to the side of the bed, a yawn escaped me and not one of those feminine, demure yawns. It was the drunk beer belly man kind of yawn.

I really need to be more girly.

I walked over to the desk and pulled open one of the drawers, and got a bottle of Tylenol before tossing it over to Blake. He wasn’t paying attention so he wasn’t able to catch. Fortunately, it didn’t hit him, but only by a couple of inches.

He took one pill and popped it in his mouth, followed by chugging water from the glass I didn’t notice he brought in. I plopped down on back on the space beside him, ready to go back to sleep.

I was at the front area of the shop, collecting the plates and forks from the tables. One of my waitresses was sick today. I’m sure they could handle baking and decorating by themselves for a day. They’ve been doing it for over a year now.

The shop was empty since lunch just ended and people had to get to work. Marcus chose this time to barge through the front doors, and he was clearly not in a good mood. He had just got back from his lunch break.

“What’s wrong with you grumpy pants?” I asked curiously.

He drew his attention to me. “Dorothy and I had a fight. That’s why.”

“Ah, trouble in paradise.” Dani nodded from behind the counters. “So, what happened?”

“I don’t want to talk about it.” Marcus crossed his arms over his chest, pouting as he made his way to the woodshop. “Maybe later.”

“Okay then.” I said and dumped the plates on the tray.

Dani turned her attention to me now. “It seems like your trouble evaporated in paradise. What did you do?”

“W-”

“Oh, wait! Don’t tell me, I’ll guess.” she chirped not letting a single word out of my mouth. “Let’s see. Right, it’s got to be the hot, furniture breaking, porn star make up sex?”

“You have to get your mind cleared up and out of the gutter.” I stated and shook my head. “No sex happened. We just talked.”

“Heard that he got sick.”

“Your girlfriend told me that.”

“Right.” She nodded. “You two met. Back to the topic: what did you do?”

“We just talked, watched a movie and ate popcorn.”

“You fed a sick man popcorn?” she questioned me, eyebrows up.

“Uh, yes?”

“Really? Popcorn?”

“Stop judging me!”

“I’m not.” She shrugged. “Just that, who gives sick people popcorn?”

I sighed, dropped my head, and said, “So I’m not a doctor. Just drop it.”

****

“Boo.”

A short but sharp scream left my mouth as I jumped back with my hand over my chest to calm down my heart rate. In front of me stood a laughing Blake, clutching his stomach from so much laughter.

“It’s not funny.” I breathed out, glaring at the laughing man. “You could’ve given me a heart attack.”

“You’re right.” He nodded, composing himself together for a second before breaking character as he started laughing. “But that face you made was so priceless! It’s hilarious.”

“Jerk.” I punched his arm. Before I could move away, his hand grasped my wrist and pulled me against him. At least he stopped laughing.

“I love you.” He said in a low voice.

My cheeks heated up as I looked at him, unable to say the same thing. I wasn’t ready yet. Heck, we’re not yet even boyfriend-girlfriend and he’s already able to say this? No, I can’t say it back.

“No rush Bethany.” He commented and released my wrists. He brought his hand up to my head and flicked my forehead. “I can wait for as long as you want me to.”

“Blake…”

“Nope.” He said and dragged me to the living room of his house. He was still sick. Not very sick like yesterday, but still sick. He’s getting better though so that has to count for something. ”Sit.”

I did as he told me and he dropped on the space beside me.

“Now let’s talk about that date we’re having Sunday night.” He said excitedly, clasping his hands together. “Wear something a little casual, but make sure you’re comfortable. And no heels. You don’t want to be stuck on those contraptions the entire night.”

“Heels are not comfortable. I don’t wear heels in the first place.” I pointed out.

“I know.” He said with a grin. “I just wanted to say the word ‘contraption’.”

“And how sure are you that you’ll be fine come Sunday?”

He shrugged. “I don’t. But I think I will be. I feel fine already and by Sunday, I’ll feel great.”

I laughed and moved in closer to him, leaning my head against his chest as he wrapped an arm around me.

“Where are you taking me?”

“It’s a surprise.” He said, playing with my hair.

“I’m not a patient person Blake.” I whispered, followed by a yawn.

I was sleeping over at his house again. Since he was better, Blake didn’t need to let Allie stay over at Alicia’s place so the little princess was upstairs in her room, sound asleep half an hour ago.

“Well then it’s time to change that.” He kissed my hair and pulled me closer to him.

I could hear the rhythm of his heartbeat underneath me. He leaned his head against mine. We cuddled up against each other like what most couples do, and he stared at the muted Barbie film that was playing on his television Allie left running before she went up her room. I closed my eyes, ready to fall asleep in his arms.

“Thank you for being here Bethany.” He whispered.

I’m not sure if he knew I was still awake, well barely awake.

“Thank you for taking care of me.” He continued and stroked my hair. “Thank you for staying with me. Thank you for being you.”

****

Two days later, around half past five in the afternoon while I was at work, Blake called me. He wasn’t sick anymore and he went to work yesterday after three days being MIA.

“Are you busy tonight?”

“If you count feeding the dogs and ordering take out as busy then yes.” I responded. “If not, then my answer’s a no.”

“Ah, so you’re not.” He said. “Great. I’ll be over there in about twenty minutes to pick you up.”

Blake didn’t allow me to say anything and hung up on me. I don’t know what he has in store for me now. Our date was still scheduled on Sunday which is tomorrow.

Sighing, I went back to finish my work.

Fifteen minutes later everyone was tidying up the place because it was already closing time. I tossed Marcus the keys so that he was able to start locking the doors.

“I’ll see you later Beth!” Dani called out as she started walking away.

I was about to ask her what she meant by seeing me later. I wasn’t going anywhere except my house, but she was too far away and this happened.

“Hey there.” From behind me, someone wrapped their arms around my waist and rested their head on my shoulder.

From the scent of the mystery person and hos awfully familiar voice, I immediately recognized that this someone was Blake. His breath was tickling me as he nibbled on my ear giving me the shivers.

“Don’t do that!” I yelped and jumped away from his sudden contact with my ear, making him release me.

He looked at me amused then it was replaced with a smirk. “Really? Why?”

“You know why.” I grumbled and crossed my arms.

“I actually don’t.” he confessed innocently before launching at me. My arms and my body trapped as he wrapped his arms around me tightly from behind me, making sure I couldn’t move. Then he placed his head in the crook of my neck and started pecking on my skin; I could feel his warm breath on my ear. I could feel him smirk against my skin.

As an involuntary reflex, I started squirming against him, bringing my shoulders up to shield me. I started laughing, kicking around in a lame attempt to have Blake release me.

“I-I’m ticklish there!” I managed the words out. I started running out of air due to my excessive laughter. “Stop! Stop! It’s ticklish! Stop! Blake!”

“I don’t think so.” He sang and continued pecking on my skin on my nape.

“Blake!” I squealed. My ribs started to hurt now, and so did my back. “Stop! I’m tired! It hurts! Blake!”

“That’s what she said.” Blake smirked.

“Jesus Christ, both of you should get a room.” Another voice joined us. “Too much PDA.”

Finally and fortunately, Blake stopped whatever he was doing but he didn’t let me go. He placed his head on my neck but because he faced forward, I couldn’t feel anything on my ear. He turned us around. It was more like he turned around and since I was helpless, I was dragged around.

It was Marcus who had a mischievous smirk on his face. He tossed the keys to me. In a split of a second I started panicking. My arms were still useless at this moment because I was still trapped. I worried that the set of keys was going to hit me in the face (It happened before so don’t blame me for being worried). I wanted to smack Marcus in the face right now.

Blake remove one of his arms from around me and caught the set of keys before wrapping them back around me.

“Now run along Marcus.” Blake said. “You don’t want to see live porn now, do we?”

“Oh I wouldn’t mind but from you two, no thank you.” He said. “I’ll go ahead.”

“Bye.” Blake responded right away, leaving me no time to reply.

“Don’t forget to use protection!” Marcus called as he jogged away from us.

Now we were alone on the streets.

“You know, restraints don’t really turn me on.” I said. “I’m not kinky.”

“Oh so you want to be turned on then?” He asked sounding really amused. “Don’t worry I’m not into BDSM too. But I do have tricks to turn you on.”

“Blake!”

My face heated up from the embarrassment. That sounded a lot better in my head, and a lot better when I thought Blake didn’t have a witty reply. This sucks.

“Do you want to get turned on Bethany?” he whispered in my ear, his voice dropping a few octaves making me shiver. “I can do this.”

Blake dropped one of his arms down and his hand stopped on my thigh and started caressing my leg. He stopped and pulled his hand back up to wrap me. The he whispered back in my ear. “And this.”

He shifted behind and the next thing I know is that he’s trailing kisses on my neck. Instead of my reflex to jump away, the sudden contact and the exquisite feeling made me weak in the knees. Then he stopped again.

“Or this-”

“No.” I breathed out. Oh god, I can’t bear this. “I don’t want to.”

I could feel him grin against my skin.

“You’re blushing so hard Bethany.” He teased sounding pleased. “So cute.”

“You’re such a jerk.” I muttered.

”I’m sorry.” He said and placed his head back on my shoulder. “I didn’t come here to tease you.”

“What did you come here for anyway?” I asked inquisitively. “And what’s with me being busy tonight?”

“Well, yesterday we had this really important meeting at work with a really important person.” He said and I leaned my head against his. “Everything turned out great and we got the account now.”

“That’s amazing!” I chirped. “That’s wonderful. Congratulations!”

“I know it’s great.” He muttered. “We’re having a celebration back in the office and I was wondering if you’d like to join me.”

“I would love to but don’t you think its kind off for me to be celebrating with your colleagues? I mean, it’s all of your hard work and it will be really rude of me to just appear there.”

“Dani’s going to be there, and so are the wives, husbands, girlfriends, and boyfriends of my coworkers.” He told me. “So don’t worry about that. And it’s nothing too fancy. The guys just ordered pizza and take outs.”

“I’m really happy for you. But aren’t you going to release me?”

“No.” he said sharply, tightening his grip on me and started walking.

We looked like a penguin.

“But what if I have to go poop?” I asked.

“Then I’ll be hugging your side.” He said in a duh tone like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Better get used to do that.”

“That’s disgusting Blake.”

He chuckled. “Yeah I was just kidding. I’m not into that.”

Fifteen minutes later we walked, hand in hand, out of the elevator of the building and to his office where a lot of people were celebrating carrying paper plates.

“My man!” a guy greeted us giving Blake a slap on the back. I’m unsure if it hurts but I did cringe a little. “This is her?”

“Yeah. Bethany meet Isaac, my best friend.” Blake introduced. “Isaac, this is Bethany, my girlfriend.”

Surprised, my eyes widened at his introduction of me. Girlfriend?

“Ah, the infamous Bethany.” Isaac smiled charmingly, sticking a hand out for me. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”

“Nice to meet you.” I replied and took his hand.

“Hey guys!” Isaac suddenly called out, getting everyone’s attention. “Blake finally brought his girlfriend!”

“Isaac shut up.” Blake scowled at his best friend.

“I’m sorry for that Bethany.” Isaac grinned. “It’s just that Blake keeps talking over and over again about you and it’s nice that he finally has the balls to bring you here and introduce you to us. And it seemed like he also got the balls to ask you to be his girlfriend, eh?”

“Yeah.” I nodded. I failed to contain a smile. “Congratulations, by the way, on getting the account. This must be huge for you guys.”

“It is. Thank you. You must be hungry. We just ordered a shit load of pizza.” Isaac motioned for us to follow him. “Dude Blake, don’t let your girlfriend starve to death.”

“Shut up man.” Blake muttered, his cheeks turning pink, and elbowed his friend on the sides, rather painfully I might add since Isaac was doubling over where Blake had hit him.

It was nice to see Blake being himself, so calm and carefree and having fun. I know he was himself when he was with me, but there is still difference when he’s with me and when he’s with his friends. It was a good kind of difference.

I looked around the room to take a good look at where the handsome man whose arm was wrapped around my waist worked. It was quite spacious and very modern. The place was also very well design. There were works framed, some walls were creatively designed. The room wasn’t in black and white. In fact, it was painted in various bright colors.

As I scanned the room, a grinning face stood out. It was Dani who basically had the words ‘You’re finally together!’

Trust me, I was shocked too.

“You want some pizza?” Blake asked offering me a slice.

“Yes please.” I said and watched him take four slices of pizza and dump it on two large paper plates. “Whoa there big man. Slow down. The pizza’s not going anywhere.”

“I know but we are.” He told me. “And the extra two are yours. I know how much you love stuffing your face.”

I shrugged. “Fine with me.”

His eyes widened for a second before going back to its original state. He grabbed another slice before dragging me to an empty office which I instantly assume was his.

Before I could enter the room, a hand stopped me on my arm. It was Dani sporting an insanely huge smile on her face. He let out a squeal-ish scream and hugged me, cutting off my oxygen circulation completely. How on earth is she so strong?

“Why didn’t you tell me you two are together?”

“Uh...” I trailed off, unsure of what to answer. “I wanted it to be a surprise.”

“Well it worked!” She chirped. “It took the both of you long enough! I thought I was going to get gray hair years before you two would get it going.”

“W-well now you won’t have to wait for any gray hair.” I stammered, my answer utterly lame.

“Reese is going to throw a party when she hears about this!” she said happily and took out her phone. I couldn’t even let a single word out of my mouth when she tucked it back in her pocket telling me she already told my sister.

Alicia, also known as the gorgeous model I mistook as Blake’s replacement for me, called Dani’s attention. She gave me a thumb’s up before going back to her girlfriend.

“Please don’t mind Isaac.” He said, closing the door behind him and handed me a plate once we were inside. “He’s an annoying ass.”

I laughed. “He’s fun.”

“Oh really now?” he raised a brow. “So you find him fun and I find him an ass, like how I find Dani and Marcus fun, and you find them a pain.”

“Yeah I guess so.” I responded and took a bite from the pizza which had been calling my name ever since I laid eyes on it. “Oh god, heaven’s in my mouth right now.”

“That’s what she said.” He smirked. “You’ve been giving out innuendos the entire day Bethany. So, what’s up with that?”

“Speaking of what’s up,” I sat up straight, remembering something. “Girlfriend, huh?”

Blake blushed and looked down on the tiled floor. “Uh, yeah. I didn’t know how to introduce you to them. Surely we aren’t just friends Bethany.”

I sighed. “I know we’re not just that. We’ve crossed that border a long time ago.”

“Yeah, about that.” He trailed off, scratching his nape, his face getting even more flustered. “I know this question is way overdue. I should’ve asked this a month ago, not now.”

He stopped talking and silence enveloped us. It wasn’t the awkward silence though. I lowered my pizza slice down on the paper plate on his desk.

On the corner of my eye, I saw a framed picture. It was of me on the beach, not facing the camera. I don’t remember Blake taking this picture. I don’t even remember Blake taking any pictures at all, or bringing his camera.

Another much smaller picture was beside it. It was the time we stopped for lunch on the way to the beach. Again, I was not paying attention to the camera. Next to the picture was another one with Blake and Allie making funny faces.

Blake’s strong arms wrapped around my waist, drawing my attention to him. He settled his head on my shoulders again and I found myself easing into his arms.

“I love you Bethany.” he whispered, his voice dangerously low. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

I turned my head to face him, well to face the side of his face. I could smell his cologne, and it smells amazing.

It took me a while to answer him as I balanced out what was happening as of the moment.

He was asking me to be his girlfriend. I wanted to scream yes almost immediately but I kept my composure. I wondered why he would still ask me this after hurting him so much.

Then it hit me like a freight train.

Finding another man who loved me like Blake did was a one in a million chance. He didn't lash out on me like my pessimistic side would've expected. He didn't get mad. Instead, he told me he loved me. How many men like Blake could you encounter in a lifetime? The chances were slim. How many men like Blake would stay by your side after hurting them so much, after breaking their hearts? The chances were extremely slim to zero.

But in the end, the only thing that mattered was that if I liked him, if I loved him. And right now, everything has skyrocketed.

“Yes.” I finally breathed out and I heard Blake let a huge breath out that I didn't know he was holding in.

And I knew what I wanted to tell him.

“I love you Blake.”

He stiffened a bit, as if in surprise before regaining his calm composure. “I love you too Bethany.”
