Chapter 7: 1. 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓦𝓮𝓭𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰

I was getting married today.

Let me rephrase that.

I am being forced into an alliance today. I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time seeing my pathetic situation.

Arya Mehta , who have always preached about feminism , equality and freedom of speech was currently in a heavy lehenga waiting for the muhurat so that she can marry the profitable groom her father has found for her.

Honestly she didn't care anymore. Her life was equal to the hell already. How worse can it get than that?

I played with my embroidered dupatta, her anxiety growing by every passing second.

Everything about my wedding screamed richness and luxury. It definitely was not very 'me'. If she could make a list of the things that she selected, it would be a blank paper. From her lehanga and jewellery to the food , was picked by her parents.

She wasn't surprised at all. The people who  didn't give her a choice to select her husband were obviously not going to give her the choice in any other matter.

Her friends had tried to cheer her up. She was going to be married into the Singhania household. And that was another reason she was questioning her fate.

She hated the Singhanias. She hated people like them who lived on top of riches as if royalty. She herself was from a well to do family and if she learnt anything it's that more money a person have , the more heartless they become.

There was a knock on my door. I opened to see my Bridesmaids smiling.  I smiled in return as they hugged me and walked me to the mandap.

My mother left a sigh of relief seeing me.

Did she really think that I'll run away from my own wedding? Well , If you think about it , I should have.

With a fake smile plastered accross my face , I was escorted to the mandap in my bridal attire towards my soon to be husband who was already seated in the mandap. We didn't bother to acknowledge each other as we sat there.

The ivory sherwani he was wearing made him look regal and both of us together was the majestic couple of the evening the media wanted to see.

The rituals went on and it was time for her Kanyadaan. Her father proudly handed me over to him without even a moments hesitation.

She had often imagined about her wedding.  She has dreamed of doing the sath phera with her husband and giving him a promise on each circles.

But now she was incapable of even thinking. She was just a mechanical doll.

She did promise him one thing still.  Her eternal hate.

Mahika was exhausted.  She was never a social butterfly. The constant mingling with people was physically draining her. She had literally begged Dhwani jiji to come with her. We both knew that was not possible.

If they did , Ambika Singhania would have had their head delivered to her feet on a silver platter. That woman was a terror. Even the mere thought of her made Mahika shiver.

"Mahika beta , have you seen Aarohi."

"She went home with Dhwani jiji. "

"That girl didn't even bother to tell me. What am I going to do with her? "

I stopped the poor lady who was clearly tensed.

"Chachi , You know Aarohi. She will do what she feels like doing. Spontaneous is the one word for Aarohi Singhania. "

Amrita Chachi chuckled.

"Go call and Veer. People are asking for him. "

I gave her a mock bow.

"Of course my lady"

I was searching for Veer bhaiya when a small hand grabbed my pallu. I turned around to see a cute little boy looking at me with big round eyes.

I bend down  to his level.

"Hey handsome. " I chirped.

"Where's your mamma? "

"Don no" he replied in a cute little baby voice.

"Aapka nam kya hai."

"Krishna."

Chuckling I asked.

"Aapka nam Krishna hai? "

He nodded his head.

"Aap mujhe Kanha bula sakti ho. "

"Accha. Toh aapka yashoda ma kaha hai? "

"Nahi pata. "

"You know what, Koi baat nahi. We can find her together."

I held out my hand for him to hold but he had other ideas. He raised his hands to pick him up.

I giggled at his antics and picked him up , placing him on her waist.

"Aap kon hai?"

His voice was so innocent and pure that my heart melted right there.

"Mahika"

"Ma..makiha .. mahi" the small lad was trying so hard. Laughing I said.

"Aap mujhe Radha bula sakte ho. "

He giggled.

"Toh ham Radha aur Krishn ho gaya."

I went towards Veer Bhaiya who was talking with another lady.

"Bhaiya everyone is asking for you."

Hearing my sound bhaiya and the woman turned towards us. Bhaiya had an amused glint in his eyes as he spotted the boy attached to me.

"Mamma. "

Krishna shouted and ran out of my hand and hugged the lady.

"Krishna , what are you doing here? Where is your dadu. I thought I left you with him. " The lady said confused.

I couldn't hold my giggles as he gave her a toothy grin.

"Thank you so much dear. He's a trouble maker. I hope he didn't disturb you too much. " She apologized

"Oh no. He was an Angel. " I said truthfully.

"I'm Sita Malhotra. "

"it's nice to meet you. I'm Mahika Singhania. "

"Its nice to meet you too dear. "

"I'm really happy that we got to see each other Veer."

Bhaiya nodded his head.

It must have been my imagination but I think I saw a flash of hurt in bhaiya's eyes as he watched the mother and child.

I was running around the mansion, making sure everything was perfect. Afterall today was the marriage of the youngest Singhania brother. Everything was supposed to be immaculate and luxurious. She herself had not waited long enough to see the rituals as she had to be at the house ready to welcome the bride and groom. It was her duty as the eldest daughter in law.

The pallu of her Banarasi saree was tucked neatly near her waist and her bangles were creating a beautiful noise as her hands moved.

Not just the wedding , but everyone in the Singhania household was expected to look royal and she was playing the role smoothly. She had made sure to get ready with extra care today because one reckless step can be the rumour in tomorrow's tabloid.

She had already gotten the message from Mahika informing that they have departed from the venue.

Dhwani had personally did if  the preparations for all the  pre-rituals and was required to do the same for the post wedding functions too.

But she didn't actually mind it. She loved Rehan as her own brother so she was actually enjoying herself. For an orphan like her this was her family , despicable as it may be.

Suddenly a bubbly girl came clashing into me.

"Sorry bhabhi. I didn't see you there. "

"It alright. You should be more careful. What if you fall down one of these times and break your bones."

"Singhania hu bhabhi. It won't break that easily."

"Acchaa baba. Care to explain why you are running?"

"I wanted to help you"

"Really" I questioned.

"There was a lizard in my room. "

We both broke into giggles.

"Why are you two standing here gossiping. Go and make sure everything is ready. The girls these days don't know to do anything properly. "

"Aarohi go make me a glass of lassi.

Ji dadi. "

I sent Aarohi a sympathetic look as she rushed towards the kitchen.

"Is everything ready for the grih Pravesh and muh dikhai ? "

"Yes dadi ji."

If there is a person who can ruin a person's good day or happiness with one look , it was the grandmother of the Singhanias.

I rushed towards the doorsteps hearing the sound of cars coming into the mansion.

At the threshold I took the Aarti of the newly wedded couple in the absence of maa. It should have been Amrita Chachi but dadi would never let that happen as she is a widow.

Then I applied thilak on both of their heads not before passing Rehan a teasing smile.

"Gently push the kalash with your right foot. " I whispered to the new Bahu.

Then she dipped her feet in Alta and started walking into the house.

Godess Lakshmi enters the house through the doorsteps. She exits the same way.  Daughters are considered to be the incarnation of the goddess of wealth and fortune herself. Kicking the Kalash full of rice signifies pushing all the wealth and prosperity inside the house. The red footprints to herald that goddess Lakshmi has entered the house.

By now Mahika joined me with a beautiful smile adorning her face. After seating Arya for the muh dikhayi ceremony we looked at each other and said....

Welcome to the Singhania khandaan

∆

That's a wrap guys. God I was so terrified writing this. I wanted it to be perfect. I hope I delivered what I dreamed of.

So what do you think about our bahu's.

I know I have not introduced the brother's officialy but still , what do you think about them.

Do vote and comment. It honestly makes my day.

My next chapter for cloaks and daggers got deleted yesterday so I have to write it again. But I promise I'll update today itself.

Love you all
