Regaining his composure, Davey took Caseyâs hand with a softness that was out of character.
âNothingâs amiss.
How are you feeling?â
Clutching her forehead, Caseyâs brow creased with discomfort.
âIâm not sure why, but my head is throbbing.
â
Davey tenderly massaged her temples, murmuring, âLet me get a doctor to examine you.
â
Casey drained of energy, could only respond with a faint âOkay.
â
As Davey reached for his phone to call for a doctor, Casey, still in bed, inquired, âDavey, have you seen my parents?â
âClang!â Daveyâs phone slipped from his grasp, clattering on the floor.
Daveyâs stare, intense and icy, fixed on Casey, his presence chilling.
Casey, seemingly oblivious to the tension, gently reminded him, âDavey, your phone fell.
â
Ignoring the fallen phone, Davey asked, âWhat did you just mention?â
âAbout what?â Still groggy, Casey pondered before responding, âMy dad⦠Where are my parents? Theyâre not here, are they?â
Daveyâs gaze grew icy as he scanned the room.
It was a replica of her bedroom, which justified her confusion.
âCasey, regarding your parentsâ¦â
Daveyâs attempt to explain was cut off by Caseyâs interruption.
âCould you get my mom? Sheâs probably worried since I had been unconscious beforeâ¦â
Davey remained silent, his dark eyes locked on her, filled with unsaid words.
Pausing, he echoed her words, âYour mom is worried?â
âYes, why? Whatâs happening?â
âCaseyâ¦â Davey addressed her with a touch of coolness in his voice.
âHave you forgotten something important?â
Caseyâs eyes, large and bewildered, reflected her confusion.
âWhat should I remember?â
Davey probed further, âCasey, how many years have you lived?â
âIâm 18, arenât I?â
Davey responded evenly, âAnd what about me?â
With a playful chuckle, Casey responded, âIsnât it obvious? Youâre 19, Davey, the finest protector of my family!â
Davey didnât utter a word in response.
Casey gave him an appraising look, teasing, âHow long was my nap? You appear much older, almost like youâre in your thirties.
Maybe you should try some of my skincare products.
It looks like the weather hasnât been kind to you.
