âI detected movement in her phone signal, but then it vanished.
â
âWhat phone signal?â Erickâs eyes widened.
âYouâve been monitoring her phone?â he exclaimed, a mix of shock and anger coloring his face.
Mitchel was quick to defend himself.
âIâm merely ensuring her safety, especially in her delicate condition.
Iâm only tracking her location, nothing more.
â
âYou had no right!â The admission only fueled Erickâs anger.
He couldnât believe it! How could Mitchel invade Raeganâs privacy in such a manner? What ate him is that he didnât even notice when Mitchel did it.
Then, Erick came to realize that Mitchel had been vigilant, even in the dead of night.
Had Mitchel been unable to sleep, consumed by worry for Raeganâs well-being?
âRemove it immediately!â Erick demanded.
Mitchel hesitated.
Obviously, he didnât want to do it.
âI promise Iâll do so when sheâs away from Aurora.
But for now, please, go check on her.
â
With a determined nod, Erick set off toward Raeganâs room.
âIâll return shortly.
And when I return, that monitoring software should be gone,â Erick warned with a low growl.
âAnd stay put.
No one should disturb the young couple.
â
Mitchel stood frozen without saying a word.
Erick walked through the halls, calling out as he reached Reaganâs room.
âRaegan? Raegan?â
The repeated calls only revealed his growing anxiety.
âRaegan⦠Are you there?â
A shift in Mitchelâs expression signaled his readiness to intervene.
However, the servant, mindful of Erickâs instructions, intercepted him.
âSir, please, hold on a moment.
â
âOut of my way.
â Mitchelâs icy glare pierced the air, chilling the servant to the bone.
Mitchel brushed past the servant, leaving the latter still recovering.
The servant scrambled to keep pace.
âSir, you canâtâ¦â
Mitchelâs gait, hampered by his injured leg, betrayed his urgency, particularly exacerbated by the rain.
Perceiving Mitchelâs apparent weakness, the servant reached out to assist, only to be rebuffed by Mitchelâs crutch, leaving him sprawled on the ground.
Mitchel harbored no ill will toward the servant, only a fervent desire to reach Raeganâs room.
He wished to be there as quickly as he could! Yet, his frustration was only mounting as he limped slower and slower.
Upon nearing Raeganâs room, Mitchel intervened just as Erick prepared to kick the door open.
âHold it!â his authoritative command halted Erick in his tracks.
Erick, taken aback, yielded to Mitchelâs approach.
âWhat if Raegan is on the other side?â Mitchel said.
Erick hesitated, his foot hovering above the doorframe.
