Chapter Forty-Eight

"Guys, main behosh ho rahi hu."

× ANANYA ×

"What are you doing here, Anu?" I gulped nervously at this question.

"W-What are you doing here, bhai?" I questioned him back. The sight in front of me where Amar Bhai was standing right in front of me with his bags and a very tired expression on his face.

"I came here to surprise you on your birthday. What are you doing in Sahil's house?" He replied. So this is why he didn't wish me yesterday. My sensitive heart kinda felt hurt by that but now I get it.

"Sahil's house? Oh my my, how am I here?" I dramatically looked around as if I had no idea which place on the earth this was.

And the award for Best Actress goes to

Remember what happened when you tried acting the last time? Yep, I got a boyfriend. Slay.

Not the right time, Anu. Not the right time to flex your acting skills or your boyfriend.

Oh my my, I have a boyfriend now.

Amar Bhai snapped his fingers in front of my eyes to bring me out of my trance and that quite worked. He took a step forward and I stepped aside to let him enter.

"Ananya, what are you hiding?" He asked after scanning me from toe to head.

"Nothing, bhai. I have no idea how I ended up here. Trust me, I'm more shocked than you. I'll faint anytime." I kept bickering about whatever came to my mind to protect myself.

"Where is Sahil?" He asked and I coughed. The artificial rain did a lot of damage to my throat. I ended up getting a cold.

"Let me find and drag him here," I rushed inside the room after almost hitting my arm in the wall and cursing curses at it.

I snatched away the blanket from him and shook him. "Sahil, wake up, I'm in trouble."

"When are you not?" He mumbled in his sleep and rubbed his eyes.

Real.

"Oh wait, let me correct. We are in trouble." I said and he sat on the bed with eyes narrowed in confusion.

"First day of relationship and this is what I get to hear. Pareshani khud hi ghar bulayi maine, meri hi galti hai," I hit him with the pillow right on his face in irritation.

[I've invited trouble by myself. I'm the problem.]

"Bohat bolne lage ho."

[You are speaking too much]

"Now tell me what is the problem, my problem?" He asked me and blood rushed to my cheeks.

"Aaise situation mei blush mat karva, thik hai," I said and squinted my eyes for a mere second giving justice to my words.

[Don't make me blush in such situations]

"Problem?" He re-framed his question in one word and kept it in front of me.

"Amar bhai" I replied and he raised his eyebrows because he knew if he spoke a word, I'd speak ten more unrelated to the topic. So I had to stick to the topic, "He's here."

"Repeat your sentence. I heard something wrong." He said confidently.

"No, you heard it right. Amar bhai is sitting outside. He thought to give me a surprise and that is how he landed up here." I elaborated.

"What nonsense?" I rolled my eyes at these constant words that came out of his mouth.

Tell him that the earth is falling apart. What nonsense?

Tell him that an Ant and an Elephant got married. What nonsense?

Tell him that I'm already married. What nonsense?

Everything is nonsense for him, including me.

"You're lying, right?"  He asked me. I made a poker face while staring directly at him, blinking once in a while.

"Go outside and check it out by yourself." He looked at me suspiciously and stood up walking towards the door.

He doesn't trust me. Mean. Very mean.

Within 9 seconds, he was back with eyes widened and face filled with fear.

"Nine seconds only and you're back." I intentionally added the sentence he told me when the scenario was completely the same but it was with his parents.

"Now, what are we supposed to do?" He asked me.

"Let's get married, what say?" I asked him sarcastically.

"As in right now?" He asked and spared a glance to his and my clothings and I nodded with a light-lipped smile. "Chalo, I'm ready."

[Come, I'm ready]

"You know what, ye ghar hi shrapit hai, edhar ek raat kya guzari subha puri duniya surprise Dene aa jati hai," The frustration on my facr was clearly visible while I folded my hands below my chest.

[You know what, this house is cursed. Spend one night here and the whole world will come to give you a surprise]

"Pata nahi konse muhurat mein mila tha tujhse. Kalesh ruk hi nahi raha life ka jabse tu aayi hai." I glared at him who bit his lower lip in stress.

[I don't know what was the timing when I met you. Life problems have not stopped since then]

Damn, why bite your lip by yourself when I can do that?

That marks the grand entry of my simp side along with some not-so-good thoughts.

"Okay, now play along. I told him that I didn't know how I was there. You tell him some story, best idea, tell him the incident which happened last time when I got drunk. Game over." I said excitedly and he kept staring at me.

"So when we were not in a relationship, we acted like we were. And now that we are, we have to act like we are not? What nonsense?" That one question made me rethink my whole existence.

Point toh hai.

"Ananya-" Amar bhai shouted and panic struck me.

"We gotta do that. Life is shitty sometimes. Now do that." I said and dragged him by his wrist. Halfway, I left his hold because that act enough was suspicious.

"What took you so much time?" He asked me.

"This giant was not waking up," I muttered the lamest excuse and sat on the couch comfortably. I felt a pair of eyes on me. Actually, two.

Koi gal nai, sab galti karte hai. Tu thodi zyada kardeti hai.

[No worries, everyone makes mistakes. You make a lot of them.]

Sahil came and sat beside me, and so did Amar bhai but after separating both of us and sitting between us.

"How am I here, Sahil? I woke up on the couch this morning, my back is hurting now. You should've at least let me sleep on the bed." I started babbling some imaginary things so that my lies looked more convincing with details.

I have an expertise in lying. I think I should start another business in teaching the noob ones how to do that.

"Uh, You were adamant to sleep there." He responded and my brother's eyes flickered between both of us.

"Yesterday, Ananya was busy celebrating her birthday with all of us and she was a little too high. The keys to her apartment were not with her, so I had to bring her here considering the fact that the handsome guys were in danger because of her. She was flirting with all of them. Just thought, that you might like to know the explanation." My eyes trailed towards him and I scratched my head with an unpleasant expression.

Extra bakwas masala dalne kon bolta hai esko?

[Who told him to add extra drama to the story?]

"Y'all consider me dumb or something like that?" Amar bhai asked and I shook my head.

"You were bad in studies in your childhood, I know. But that doesn't mean you're dumb, bhai, no one considers you that. Don't think so low of yourself." I said, turning my head completely towards him and patting his shoulder with sympathy only to get a glare in response.

"What is that?" Amar bhai said and pointed towards something on my neck. My eyebrows furrowed for a while until I saw Sahil's hand covering his open mouth in shock.

My eyes widened with realization while I watched my brother's gaze slowly and dangerously turning towards Sahil who had just frozen in this moment.

The something on my neck was a hickey given by the Male Frozen Elsa in front of us. Yesterday, his love was pouring a little too much which ended up on me getting one hickey and learning how to give one too.

And we had stopped there. Nothing else was followed by that.

"Sahil," Amar bhai started and I cut him off in between.

"Guys, main behosh ho rahi hu," I said and held my head from one head, acting as if it was real. Though, neither the Frozen Elsa nor the Hungry Lion paid an ounce of attention to me.

[Guys, I think I might faint]

"Guys, I'm fainting." I thought to repeat it in English to catch their attention. I laid my head on the headrest and closed my eyes just in case they turned this side.

"Guys-"

"Nobody asked you to translate this, we understood. Faint silently without becoming Google Translator for us." Amar bhai scolded me while I pouted getting back to my normal posture. I faked a sob and wiped my nonexistent tears.

"Nobody loves me!" I exclaimed trying to divert the topic because the Hunger Lion might eat my babygirl-coded boyfriend, anytime soon.

"We can see that," Bhai replied while glancing towards the mark on my neck again. I bit my cheek and shut my eyes in irritation.

"Hide that thing, first. The more I look at it, my urge to punch this one increases." I looked at Sahil apologetically who had an expression pasted on his face like he had accepted his fate already.

However, he still managed to throw a T-shirt kept beside him. I quickly hung it around my neck and looked like a chotu working for a dhaba.

Chotu, Zara Chai Lana.

But it's okay, Ananya.

"What is this Sahil?" Bhai questioned him who took a good one minute to think and ended up giving a response like this.

"Probably, A hickey." I wished to clap once for his confidence to speak that. Just once. Because later I'll bang my head on the wall and clap that way. Interesting, isn't it?

"I know that, you moron. Since when is this going on?"

Jokes on you, Bhai. Jokes on you for asking this on the first day.

"12 hours," I replied and he turned to look at me. His expression told me that he thought I was kidding.

"Not kidding. It started yesterday night, so technically twelve hours out of which we slept for six hours so the remaining six hours." I elaborated. He turned to take an affirmation from Sahil, who just nodded in response.

"Bhai, This is the first day of our relationship, please don't ask me to break up, although I'm not going to do that-" he cut me off.

"Who said I'll ask you to break up?" His question brought a hopeful smile to my face.

"He needs to be alive for breakup."

So this Mafia King attitude runs in our blood.

🦋

After so many failed attempts and many days of making Amar Bhai understand the whole situation, he was finally convinced and approved of this relationship.

However, his taunts for Sahil were on point always. Meanwhile, my poor baby was too traumatized to say anything much in return.

He was back to normal now, finally.

And now Bhai went outside after Dinner because of some work which left the two of us in my house because Kirti and Vivian were going to have their dinner with their colleagues.

I still don't understand how they aren't fired yet.

I went inside the Kitchen and looked at the stack of utensils I had to wash. Reenu Aunty was going to take a leave tomorrow and she informed me a few hours back. So now all the utensils from the morning are lying here on the basin.

I was too bored to wash them alone so I went outside in the dining room where Sahil was sitting.

"Sahil," I called his name and sat beside him scooping closer to him. He kept a hand on my back but his eyes were still stuck to his phone.

"Look at me." I snapped and he instantly turned his face towards me, pecking my lips lightly.

"What happened?" He asked me.

"Bartan dhone mei madat kardo na," I said while showing him my puppy eyes and he burst out laughing.

[Help me wash the utensils na]

"Girlfriend bolna hai na mujhe, aao bartan dhone mei madat kardo." I threatened him in the sweetest voice possible.

[You want to call me your girlfriend na, help me wash the utensils]

"Chalo."

[Come]

My face lit up and I dragged him with me in the kitchen.

"What should I do?" He asked. I pushed him to the kitchen island where a lot of place was empty.

"Sit here and just talk to me. I'll do the rest." I said and made him sit there forcefully.

"Let me help. We'll do it together." I shook my head.

"I just wanted to talk to someone while doing this. I was getting bored. I'm not making you wash these." I said and tucked my hair behind my ears.

"But I wish to help." He jumped down from the island and ran his fingers through his hair.

"No-"

"Cut the formalities, chamatkar." He said and took the dirty plate and washed it with water first, then applied the liquid on it and passed it to me to wash it.

We spoke about random things while doing this. Then suddenly, something clicked me and I thought that this was the right time to tell him this.

"Sahil, I'll be shifting from this house very soon." I straight away said what was in my mind.

Kirti and I have been deciding this for very long. We agreed to stay here when Amar bhai suggested but only for the start till we managed to find another house in a nearby place but then everything happened. So now I guess it's the time.

"What? Why?" He asked and waited for a second, paused his work and his complete attention was on me.

"This was Amar Bhai's investment.  And now that he's back in India, I'd like to give him his property back." I gave him an explanation.

"It doesn't work like that, Ananya. Speak to him once about this. I'm sure he wouldn't agree too." He said and continued his work.

"I know. But I'll convince him. I just thought to let you know about this first."

"You know what, he wouldn't mind you and Kirti staying here. So this is not that necessary I guess. Until there's something more which you didn't tell me" He gave his thought.

"Living on my own for so many years now doesn't let me become dependent on anyone. This belongs to Amar Bhai and that is for sure. I would want to do something on my own. I cannot buy a whole house, especially one as spacious as this one, but I won't mind paying rent for a small, cozy, apartment." I explained to him.

"What about Kirti?" He asked me.

"She'll move in with me only. I'm not leaving her anytime soon"

"Talk to this about Amar once. I'm sure he wouldn't like this idea." He said and I nodded my head.

"Yes, I'll convince him first, and then only I'll take a decision," I replied.

"Try not to go. And if you want to then not too far, please." He said as he scrubbed the scrubber on the last dish and I washed it keeping it aside.

We washed our hands and walked towards the balcony present in my room.

"Aw, you'll miss me?" I asked him teasing holding his arm, he placed his other hand on the top of mine.

Holding arms is our love language.

"If you leave then you are no more a door away from me but a kilometer or more. I wouldn't want that." His voice slowly trailed off and I noticed his eyes fall on the dustbin. More precisely, on the packet of cigarettes present there.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I felt his gaze on me as I shut my eyes close in regret and slowly his grip on my hand loosened. I tried to hold his hand again but he removed my grip and the look of disappointment was seen all over his face.

I kinda messed up a big one this time. How did I forget to throw it away? It was present from the last week when he wasn't here and a client fucked up my mind.

He started walking away without speaking a word to me. I tried to convince him, to tell him the truth but he wouldn't listen.

"Sahil, I have an explanation," I said and ran after him.

"Sahil, wait for a minute."

"Sahil, just wait, hear me out."

"Sahil, please." I tried to say everything to stop him but he didn't stay. He opened the door and ran downstairs without speaking glancing back even once.

I messed up a big one this time.

🦋

The graph of how the chapter went was crazy, ik.

Any thoughts on this? On Sahil's reaction?

Many of y'all must have seen the utensils wala reel on my account, I literally forgot to add that scene and the idea of proposal changed a little so I had to fit it in between xD
