Two months later attending Fatima Appa's and Muaz bhai's nikah- 3 months to go!
"Mehr why do you keep turning the men down?"
Mehr looked at Irsa Khan, her closest friend with an expression of disbelief. She was done with this conversation. Almost every Aunty at the event had asked her what were her plans? And why she wasn't giving marriage a second shot.
"You know it Irsa, baar baar wohi sawal maat kiya karo......" Mehr replied. She knew where the conversation was headed to, and she wasn't ready for it.
"Kya matlab hai baar baar. Kitna time ho gaya hai. What is wrong with you! Aese nai guzarati zindagi...."
"Irsa dimag kharab ho gaya hai tumhara...." She was not over the lost friends. She couldn't afford to get
married, fall for a man and then be thrown away.
"Tum nay mujhe say kabhi ase baat nai ki Mehr..." Irsa said eyeing Behzad from across the room.
"App nay bhi kabhi phele aisi bakwas nai ki...."
"I think he is perfect for you...."
"Shut up! What do you know about him...?"
"I know that he is a perfect gentleman who has liked you and cared for you...."
"Liked me? Andhi ho?" Mehr asked.
"Of course, he did! And he is tall too. You guys will make a cute couple..."
"Tall?", Mehr asked confused. She never considered Behzad tall. She looked at him again, just to make sure if he was wearing his heeled boots.
"Dude is nearly 6. Aur kitna lamba ho ab?" Irsa asked.
"Oh... Asad ki baat kar rahi then?" Mehr asked and then blushed.
"App kis ko samaj rahi theen...."
"Kisi ko nai! Also, Asad just broke up with his girlfriend last month. He probably is going to use me for a rebound! Also, we are really good friends. I tell him shit and he listens. That's it."
"Well honey, I am sorry to burst your bubble. Asad have always liked you. He didn't have a girlfriend. He lied about it to get close to you. Also, when did you turn into such 'man hating bish...." Irsa asked.
"Experience! And I am not marrying anyone, so stop with this topic. Haar shadi par shuru ho jati ho .." Mehr added slightly curving her lips.
"Why not? If Fatima appa can get her second chance, then why not you." Irsa added.
Because I am well me.... Not so lucky in love. Not even lucky, if you ask me.
Muaz not so secretive bhai, had expressed his desire to marry Fatima appa! According to Masooma ani, he liked her since the beginning. Although Uncle and Aunty were against the marriage, but after Muaz bhai's ultimatum they had to agree. Mehr was happy for Fatima appa. Mauz bhai was nice and she deserved her share of happiness. Mehr really didn't want to attend the function. Not when she knew she was going to get questionable looks.
This was her first time attending a family function without Mamo. And it was taking all her strength in not bursting into tears. Mehreen Ala, was nice but she ignored all the toxicity. Mamo didn't. Mamo used to take a stand for her. Mamo, used to introduce her to all the guest with "Mera bacha". With Mamo gone, she was sitting on her table ignored by her family like the black sheep. No one asked her for the pictures. No one, tried to involve her. Mehr would have cried if her best friend hadn't flied from Islamabad to Skardu. She would have been sitting alone like Professor(from Money Heist) attending Berlin's wedding.
(For those who haven't watched that season, here is the picture . so you all understand the reference....)
"Buzz of Irsa... Just because uncle accepted your Wahab after a decade of refusal doesn't mean everyone gets their happy ever after. Also, I am quite happy." Mehr didn't want to sound as disgusted as she had.
Irsa, who had gotten married to her college bae shrugged. "You don't look happy... You turn everyone down for him and then you ignore him...."
"Asad ko kab ignore kiya?" Mehr asked.
"Behzad ki baat kar rahi hoon.... Stop pretending you didn't know."
"Jee thek hai ! You jump from one to another." Mehr replied sarcastically.
"If you don't like him then why do you still have that shitty stitch key chain, he got you.....and what about keeping track of all of his girl friends on social media. Or why the fuck were you jealous and send me 100 plus voice notes telling me how he ignored you and was nice to the bitches from high school... Or when you were angry at him because he asked you a question and you couldn't say no....."
"That was the first ever key chain for the ghar ki chabian , mamo gave me.... And I did stalk to prove to mamo kay who acha nai hai... and about the voice notes, mera dil toota tha... Because after the dinner I thought he would have been nice to me...And he was. Things did get stable. Par jab jab mujhe lagta hai k chezain thek ho gae hain. He proves me wrong! He does that. Be nice and the moment I lose the shell and let him in, he destroys everything. Bestie planned an arcade night kind of thing. Mustufa and Behzad, Bestie and I, it was going to be our thing ! But guess what he did? He brought this girl named Leena without informing any of us! Saray duo ki band baja dee. Khair Mustufa didn't mind! The girl threw shade at me whole time. Aur Bestie nay bataya tha Behzad ko that he'd had to drop me. Like duh we live together and because, Bestie had to go somewhere. Par nai ! Behzad fucked it up, because he had to had dinner with Leena and her friends. He left me there! Mustufa dropped me home. If you are a friend tu atleast act like a friend? Nai! He didn't even bother to say sorry, bad main(after that) ! What kinda friend does that?"
"Khair, we have had this discussion already. Why are you making me repeat it?" Mehr asked accusingly.
"Yeah and you admitted that you might have overreacted. Mehr, he asked you, if you were okay with Mustufa dropping you. AND YOU SAID "yes...."
"The hell Irsa, mood nai off karo mera? Did you have a fight with Wahab bhai?.......
I said yes, because I can't say 'NO'. Also ek tu banda mujhe drop kar raha hai, main 'No' bol kar uska dil toor doon. He shouldn't have asked me when he knew , I have a difficulty saying no ! "
"Beta sach bolo tu apka mood off honay lagta hai. And no, Alhumdulilah we are doing great! Just admit you were jealous...."
Mehr glanced back to Behzad who was busy talking to the petite girl who was very lovely. If Mehr's memory served right, she was Sana Mir- daughter of Mir Malik who owned the paper company.
He appeared to be hanging on her every word. Mehr couldn't help but notice the pink that crept on her cheeks at something he said.
"Just look at them! Every girl in the room thinks he is the one for her. Because he makes them feel that way."
"Including you! You sound jealous. Awaz main he inta zehr...aur zara shakal dekho apni Mehr ! Aisa lag raha hai abhi kisi ka qatal kar do ge..." Irsa said airily.
Mehr gritted her teeth. She wasn't getting her heart broken by him again!
"I am not jealous, and I am not â"
"Sure, you are not...," Irsa injected.
"â going to let him toy with my heart."
"Why would he do that?" Irsa asked and Mehr couldn't help but regret revealing something that she knew would have encouraged Irsa.
"Because he does that!"
"Mehr for heaven's sake stop being so cynical. People change! If you have a problem that he left, then ask him like some mature person. Maybe he'll have a good reason for that. And its high time for you to open your eyes and see. He is the only person who doesn't-wouldn't run into the ground. You can sing 'Bestie' 'Bestie' all the time, but he can't hang out with any girl? Double standards! Also, yah tu let him go, move on and let him do the fuck he wants, and stop complaining to me in my dms. Ya phir admit it, you like him, and we'll do something about it..."
Mehr looked at her friend for a long moment.
"Don't look at me like that. I didn't mean it-"
"Sure you didn't" Mehr added feeling unaccountably stung by her remark.
"Mehr!" Irsa exclaimed not liking how the conversation had got twisted with the real purpose being lost.
"You know I love you and that you are moody! But you are also insecure.... And you can be a real pain sometimes." Irsa said, taking Mehr's warm hand in her old ones. "You need someone who doesn't lose it. Who can keep up with you. Who is amused rather offended at you..."
"I am sorry! Can we just not talk about it and him?" Mehr said giving her head a little shake.
"Sure!"
"Also, he is as petty as me and moody too!", Mehr added absent-mindedly as she grabbed two cups of Kashmiri chai from the waiter who was passing by.
"FYI he is just involving Sana because she was feeling outcasted. She didn't have any friends or people she knows." Irsa commented.
"The Earth is flat...."
"For someone who claims to not like him, you do sound jealous." Irsa said with a sly smile.
"Bhai kidhar hain Wahab bhai! Tang agai hoon main tumhari bakwas say." Mehr refused to look at Irsa as she toyed with her chai ka cup.
"You should go greet him. You live together and you have been avoiding him for what? Two weeks! Aisa bhi kuch nai kar dia us nay agr he brought Leena. Apko bhi tu introduce kiya na usnay to his friends..." Irsa commented.
Mehr kept her eyes on him and the group that surrounded him. "So, I am like Leena? Then you should stop shipping us....He doesn't seem to be in need of company. He got plenty. And why should I greet him. He fucked it up so he should come and greet us?"
"He definitely will, if you don't stop staring!" Irsa replied.
"I am not! Staring or going after him."
Irsa smiled ...."You still like him. Uff, I knew it!"
Still? I don't like him! I just don't like that he pretends to be my friend and then ignore me or treat me like shit the next. I want my closure. I want to know what I did to deserve the sheet. I want to know why he'd do the nice stuff for me, like waiting for me to come to the table even if it meant that his dinner would get 30 minutes late or walking me. Or remembering my random preferences. Why did he have to bring me a SUB and why did it had only corns and lettuce, just the way I like it? And from that he'd go as far as not acknowledging my presence in public like he did last time when was out having dinner with Saba.
Mehr wanted to shout but didn't because she knew it sounded juvenile. Yes, she liked him. Liked him and thought he liked her back until he chose to run away.
It wasn't that he was attracted to the petite mouse who passed him awkward smiles and preached instead of practicing her own psychological shit! He was playing the nice guy because she did look like someone in need of help.
"Is there something wrong?" She asked as she noticed him looking around.
"No...." he answered.
"Let me rephrase it. Kis ko dhond rahay ho? Please don't say no one. Because you keep looking over your shoulder and your eyes keep scanning the room." Caught red handed!
He swung his head around so that his gaze was firmly fixed on her face. "Itni khobsurat company ho tu main kisi aur ko kyun dhondo ga" he said winking at her.
"Now, I know you're lying."
She was right, of course. He'd been looking for Mehr-un-Nisa since he had walked through the door
twenty minutes earlier. He'd thought he caught sight of her before he'd stumbled upon Sana. Hell, he was attending the function because he knew Mehr was attending. She had to after all it was her family function. He hadn't seen her since that arcade game.
Your fault!
It is not. She was getting clingy?
Clingy? She was getting through your exterior. And you didn't like it so you broke her heart.
I did no such thing.
"I would never lie to you" he said, giving her a jaunty half smile getting back to Sana.
"Of course, you wouldn't lie to me who you are meeting for the second time and attending to me because my father abandoned me.," she returned. "And anyway, it's as obvious as day. Your eyes give you away. According to Qasim Ali Shah everytime a person lies, his eyes get serious."
"That the most absurdâ"
"It's not. Iske pechay ek science hai." she said. "Trust me. Oh, Ahmad bhai is here!" Sana said as she left him to greet some Ahmad. Out of curiously his gaze followed her only to land on Ahmad. Mehr's ex with his wife! Way to go, Behzad. He hoped Mehr wasn't attending. The hope was short lived as he spotted Mehr getting up from the table. She looked elegant in her sari. Way too elegant! He blinked twice to clear his mind of thoughts that clouded his mind. Strange! He felt like Major Ram from Main Hoon Na whole had just seen Miss Chandni. He could hear the violins playing. To get rid of all that sound and slow motion, he shook his head. She was talking to her friend and looked grim.
Did Mehr know her ex was here? She really did have a nasty extended family. Behzad was looking at her as she finally laughed at something, her friend said. No, she definitely didn't know. Behzad had witnessed her once getting whole uncomfortable at the topic of Ahmad when Amna had carelessly brought that up.
Behzad watched Ahmad eyes on Mehr, whose lips that curved into an evil smirk. This didn't look good. He had to do something. He had never interceded on her or anyone's behalf before. But now it was different. She was ...... Well, he supposed that she was whatever... in a strange, crooked way his FRIEND? If he guessed it right, she didn't even consider him a friend.
Sixty seconds later Behzad was at the edge of the table that was occupied by Mehr-un-Nisa and her friend who looked quite cheerful that he had finally found his way to their table. Mehr, who looked a vision in her maroon saree. She looked magnificent especially with her hair turned into a lose messy bun and her eyes. He wasn't sure what; he was rarely observant. But her eyes seemed deeper. There was something that wasn't quite same. Maybe it was just her. They were huge before, but until now he hadn't found lost his self in them.
When Behzad got out of the daze, Mehr was looking at his with her eyebrow raised.
"Assalam Alikum kehtay hain cutieee...." He said as he took a seat beside her.
"Mujhe nai pata tha...Mujhe laga 'GO to hell' kehtay hain..." She said giving him a lopsided grin.
"Go to home hota hai.. Do you wanna come?" He asked.
"Yes, I do." she agreed.
"Phir chalain?"
"Mujhe say kya poch rahay hain app ...Jiske sath 'mere dil apke pass hai wali' guftago ki hai usay pochain na..."
"Usi say poch raha hoon...chalain?"
"Are you asking me out?" she asked.
"You're asking me out?" He rather liked this. She scowled at him.
"Ab bhool gae hain...You were throwing shade. I don't exist for you..." she ground out, and he realized with surprise that this wasn't easy for her.
"I wasn't...", He replied. What a liar.
"The sky is pink..." She responded.
"I am playing your knight in shining armor. Na karoon tu dikkat.. karoon tu dikaat..."
"I guess I'll have to leave the table! Baith jain app sakoon say.."
"Acha na sunain..I'd be delighted to be your ride back home" he said immediately.
"Sure" She said as she looked around.
"Kis ko dhond rahi hain app , main idhar hoon?"
"Mustufa ko ! Every time you say you'll drop me ... You literally do drop me and then Mustufa has to do it..."
"Touche! Mustufa nai hai! I am really going to drop you"
"Aur kitna drop karna hai apnayy mujhe..." She asked.
"Jeee?"
"Kuch nai. You may lead, I'll go tell Mehreen Ala that I am going. Woh bol rahin then k ajj yahen rukain ge." she said, with all the hauteur of a queen as she got up to inform her friend that she was leaving.
When she got back, she seemed a little less sure of herself. And though she hid it quite well, her
eyes were flicking around.
"No prank? You won't desert me in the parking lot if you find a hottie?" She finally asked.
"Parking me hottie milay ge?" he asked as he gestured for her to move. What she wanted to hear was "Array app he tu hain hottie...." Ya phir , "Main apka sath nai choroon ga...."
"Nai!" She replied! Gosh why could she not mask her emotions.
"Nai, chorta main apko. Kisi hottie ki khatir..."
"You do seem to forget about my existence whenever you spot someone with two X chromosome..."
"And you don't?"
"No! I never pretend to not know you...."
"Achaaaaaaa...."
"Jeeeee................."
"You never admit you are at fault! But you do this! Out of no-where, you would see right through me in presence of company! While I on the other hand never do it to you! I never make you feel less, infront of other people. I tell you what is bothering me, and you choose to ignore it."
"Jee jee.....Main karoon tu character dhela..app karain tu....."
"Acha chalain batain kab kiya mainay ase?"
"You ignored me , at the arcade !" Mehr could hear the complaint in his voice. He was jealous. She felt like smiling.
"Aese hai?" She asked.
"Yes....You did all the duo games with Abdullah, because 'bestie' 'bestie'. And when he wasn't in your team, you intentionally let him win. You side with him in all his shit arguments and then he gives me that 'dekh' smile."
"Because that was how it was supposed to be. We were supposed to play in duo, until you brought Leena...You can't complain! Also, you can cheat to make Leena win, par main Bestie ko nai jeeta sakti...WOW"
"Jee thek. Leena ki wajay say kisi ko takleef tu nai hue na?" He asked .
"Mustufa ko hue..." Aur mujhe bhi...
"So now you are the advocate for Mustufa...."
"You asked. I just stated facts."
"Okay what about you are twining with him almost every time..."
" That is because he wears blue a lot. Blue is my favorite color."
"No its not. Red is!" He stated and she looked at him. The shock and disbelief visible in her eyes. He noticed? And then she felt like blushing. Yes, red was her favorite color. But she wore blue because it looked good on her. And because she had lot of blues in the closest.
"It coincidental! What are you trying to prove?" She asked. She didn't know what the argument was here.
"That you keep choosing everyone over me."
"Ofcourse, I will choose him over you Behzad! What are you to me? One day you decide , you want to be friends. The next day you decide, it's too much for you and throw cold shoulder. It was our thing, we used to watch Splitswala but you stopped doing that. I have been waiting for you in the longue for the last 8 days. If my friendship is too much for you, just tell me. Everything that we do together, one day you wake up and decide to not do that. And I can't let you spoil thing I enjoy for me."
He stared at her as if she had wounded him.
"You'll have to figure out yourself......" He seethed.
"Oh really? You can't even get yourself to tell me you are my friend because you never acted like one."
"But you did? Haina? At every step you made me feel like I don't mean anything to you.... 'bestie, I tolerate him for you.' 'you aren't my friend, Behzad!' .... 'oh, he isn't my friend !' " He said as he kept throwing her words back at her.
"I just meet bestie 2 months ago!" She shouted.
"You made him your bestie! Doo mahinay main bestie bana lia...."
"You can't complain Behzad! You have my contact saved as Mehr-un-Nisa!"
"Nai tu 'janu' kar doon?" He asks.
"Kar do! Everyone knows I don't like to be called Mehr-un-Nisa! My friends know it! Why can't you understand it! Itni si baat apko samaj kyun nai ati. Why can't you do something when someone asks you to do it." She shouted.
"Dekhain phele tu apnay mujhe instruction dee hai k main apka pora naam na use karoon. I'll gve my example.... Main instruction deta he nai k yeh na karna woh na karna......... Haar kisi ki apni marzi hai...If you have a problem with your own name tu yeh tu apka masala hai. Nai? Main kon hoto hoon yeh bolnay wala k yeh nai karo.....woh nai karo... ...." He replied with calmness. In plain words , he was asking telling her that she was no one to order him around.
Mehr's eyes were brimming with unshed tears.
"Par agr app nay yeh apnay peace of mind k liye bola hai tu thek hai app nay keh dia aur mainay sun lia........" he concluded.
"Fuck off Behzad! For real fuck off! You have issue with Abdullah being my bestie. Well let me tell you. He doesn't abandon me when there are other girls around! He doesn't leave me at the table to mingle with other friends. He understands it when I tell him that I don't like to be called, "Mehr-un-Nisa. He doesn't ask me why? He doesn't make me wonder, if he considers me a friend, his actions speak for him. AND last of all, he is not going to disappear when I need him the most! I don't want to go anywhere with you. Jao yahan say."
She didn't mean to shout but enough was enough! She didn't expect him to leave. She really didn't. But she watched him disappear after mumbling the "Jesi apki marzi."
Mehr watched his receding figure disappear into darkness. She wanted to shout. Tell him that he was an alpha jerk. Curse him. But she didn't. She sat on the block and let the tears slip out. She needed to let him go. It was in his nature to leave.
20 minutes later Behzad was walking aimlessly in the parking lot! He knew he shouldn't have reacted the way he did! But he couldn't help it! She was ordering him around like ...like his father! He was the boss of his own and he was going to call her what he wanted to! He was done pleasing the people around him. But a voice kept telling him that he shouldn't have. What was wrong with "Mehr-un-Nisa." He loved her name. It had more class than Mehr!
He heard the voices from around the corner! Behzad groaned! Not the stupid couples in the parking lot! When had Pakistan become this modern? He was about to leave when he something caught his attention.
"Leave me alone!" 30 minutes ago, quite similar words had been directed at him by the same person. Behzad had no desire to interrupt! He has had his share of her wrath. He was going to let her be.
He craned his neck slightly to get a view. His height and the unkept bushes weren't helping at all.
"Ahmad, mera hath choro!" She asked!
"I am sorry, Mehru-un-Nisa! Really sorry. I shouldn't have done what I did! You didn't deserve it."
"It's a little 10 years too late for it Ahmad!" She said again surprising Behzad with the patience! Had she not just lectured him not to call her Mehr-un-Nisa.
"I was wrong about you...."
"Yes, you were! Now please leave my hand!" She said with a little authority. Behzad blinked. What the fuck was it all about! He was clueless and curious! It was talking all his self-control in not making the grand appearance and demanding answers.
"I came here for you! I have been trying to get to you but ....."
"But what ? Ahmad? You couldn't? Kyunke Abbu refused to give you my number? How could he? He disowned me after you divorced me! Khandan ka naam jo miti main mila dia tha mainay!" She replied sadistically!
"Mehr-un-Nisa, I am sorry, Mehak told me you were in love with him. And since you were friends with him tu...."
"Tu it gave you the right to do what you did? Huh? You were cheating on me. I shouldn't matter if I was in love with someone who wasn't in my life!"
"Come back to me baby please" he said as he reached to touch her face.
"Hath maat lagao mujhe Ahmad! I am not the fragile stupid Mehr-un-Nisa", She told him.
Bitch, he had to rescue her. He wasn't going to fight. He'd just say "Hath choro!" and hope that Ahmad listened! With Ahmad being 6'3, Behzad knew he stood no chance against him.
"Haan baby tum bohat piyari.." Ahmad began but he couldn't complete the sentence as Mehr landed a
punch squarely on Ahmad's jaw. He went down. Of like a light bulb. Behzad who had just emerged from the bushes stood there, watching her in disbelief as Mehr's panic stricken self-dropped to her knees.
"Please don't be dead. Shit shit shit!" She cursed as she placed two fingers near Ahmad's nose to check if he was still alive.
"I didn't mean to hit you so hard. Mamo said it wasn't lethal. Mehr you need to stop playing Tekken with bestie! Yeh sub usi wajay say hua hai....Allah Allah ! fudge fudge fudge.. Ab kya karoon.. "
Behzad laughed. He couldn't control it. She lifted her head to face him. Her dark eyes, a perfect mirror reflecting all the anxiety and anxiousness she felt.
The night kept getting worse for Mehr! First, she was forced to attend a social gathering she didn't have energies for. Second of all, she third wheeled her friend and felt miserable! Third, when she thought the pain was over and she was going home, Behzad had to act like the d*** that lead her to a mental breakdown! Then she was cornered by the toxic ex who thought she still was a weakling!
BISH! Now you know how much it hurts! She wanted to shout after she was sure that he was alive, but didn't because the unapologetic jerk was standing there and laughing!
"Your knight! I planned to be your knight. What a joke. But like you said and now you have proven, you don't need one."
"Of course not! If it's someone, who stays behind the bushes, enjoys the whole show and makes an appearance after all the show is over!"
Behzad eyed the darkening bruise on Ahmad's chin and took a mental note to his self.
DON'T PUSH MEHR BEYOUND HER LIMIT.
AND DON'T TOUCH HER against her will.
EVER!
"With a left hook like that, you didn't need my help. Instead, I'd like to offer you the position of my knight in shining armor."
She scowled at him, not appreciating his attempt at humor.
"Agr app bhool gae hain tu let me remind you...I am not talking to you."
"Are you sure?" He asked and her scowl deepened.
"Behzad......" She said as she got up dusting her dress.
"Jee cutie....."
"Fuck off?" She said as she blinked her long lashes at him.
"And leave this poor creature at your mercy? No! I'd have to stay and be the knight !"
Mehr glanced at Ahmad who was sprawled on the ground and laughed! She was hysterical as she stared at the man who called her names, but now wanted to crawl back into her life because she was successful and probably going to be rich. And maybe a little hotter. The man had raped her and beaten her. No one knew about it. She was too ashamed to tell them. What was she supposed to say, when everyone asked why? Because they always did. They'd ask why and what did she do that 'forced' Ahmad to such behavior. So instead of telling everyone that and getting fingers pointed at her, she had kept her silence.
She had just demanded divorced. A man who didn't trust her, who in his weakest thought it was okay to hit her as a woman, wasn't the man she was going to be tied to for the rest of her life! That wasn't the toxic environment she was going to let her children if she had any grow in.
She wanted a future where her children were going to witness their father dot on their mother. Her children were going to watch the funny banters between their parents. Where the children knew that their father was always going to be on the mother's side. This wasn't the future she had with Ahmad. Her own father might have raised his voice a lot at her mother, but he had never raised his hand. Mehr owed it to herself and her mother, to stand up against his toxicity!
"You wanted to be the knight haina?" She asked as she looked at him in the eye and Behzad could tell she was upto something.
Hesitantly, he nodded.
"Well why don't you go in and what was ,the girl you gave your heart to... Ahh Saba? Or was it Sama... Jo bhi the bring her to parking lot. She'll take care of her cousin and we'll be good?"
"We?"
"Hmmm...."
"You punched him. Ismain 'we' kahan say aagaya?"
"No one will believe I punched him."
"Tu aur kon karay ga. Look at my size, cutie! I am only 5'8. I'd never be stupid to smack a man as tall as this gaint. Mere khobsurat face kharab ho jaee ga naaa...."
"Jee Jee khobsurat ....."
"Also don't you think your concern is misplaced? He attacked you...."
" I punched him. We are even now. I can't leave him like this. Isliye go call your Saba."
Behzad raised a brow. Mehr was truly the most contrary woman. But he liked her.
"Sana! Stop pretending you don't know her name!" He said and she blushed. Busted!
He had the most appalling urge to close the distance between them and tug that strand of hair behind her ears. Her wavy hair was hanging on the sides, her cheek bright red and her eyes refused to meet his. He wasn't going to do anything more. Just tug that strand of hair behind the ear. What was the harm in that?
It was tempting and maddening! She had just knocked out her ex who was getting friendly with her.
"Behzad!" With reluctance, he dragged his mind back and found her scowling!
"Are you even listening to me?"
"Hmmmmm." He lied.
"You weren't!" She said as she crossed her hands against chest.
"No, I wasn't," he admitted.
"Then why did you say you were?" She ground out.
"Because that's what you wanted to hear." He said as he shrugged.
Behzad watched her with fascination as she took a took breath, muttered 'calm down' to herself and then looked up at him with the smile. "Ahhh and you live to please people?" She asked still smiling. Her dimple was showing as she closed the distance between them.
"People nai. Sirf app!" He replied as he smiled back.
"Acha jee?"
"Jee ...."
"Tu app please mujhe Mehr-un-Nisa bolana chor dain..." her smile was almost comical as she said it. And Behzad decided it was time to stop acting like an alpha J .
"Phir kya bolaon? Meri JAAN?"
She exhaled, and then looked back at him "MEHR! Mehr will do." She said as she looked at her phone which was ringing. Picking it up, she hesitantly looked down at Ahmad and then answered it.
"Jee chachu.....Again hain app? Main arahi hoon." She told him and then disconnected the call.
"I really don't want to leave him here..."She said as she looked at him.
"No! I am not getting Sana out here!" The possessiveness in his voice ticked her off! Itna khayal, mera bhi kar lia karo. She wanted to shout! He had abandoned her in the parking lot, (after she asked him to leave) but couldn't accompany Sana her. What an asshat.
"But wasn't it the plan? You take her on a date? And then drop her!"
"No!"
"Dant kyun rahay ho...Thek hai maat bolao...I'll do it myself" She said.
"Kya, meri jaan? Call Sana? Tell her that you punched her cousin? This would be the gossip of the year. At her cousin's Nikkah , Mehr-un-Nisa knocked her ex-husband out !" He gave her a lopsided grin.
For a moment Mehr was done. Just when she thought Behzad would be some help, he was smiling at her discomfort. Not smiling, he was grinning! And it would have melted her heart if wasn't immune to his charms. But was she really immune? Much to her dismay, it was awfully hard to stay irritated at him.
Her heart did cartwheels, her knees felt like butter when she heard him call her "Meri Jaan". He had done it intentionally, but she was going to act as if she didn't hear it.
"I'll honk like crazy. Guard ajain ge and he'll discover Ahmad. Win win!" Mehr declared just as the car sped inside and stopped a few meters ahead.
"Enjoy the date! Asshole! You call yourself my friend and then you chit chat with my ex's cousin!" She told him as she left him standing them. From his face, Mehr could tell that he was offended.
"InshAllah, date tu enjoy he karon ga! Apko kitna khayal hai mera. Wese App galat gari ki taraf ja rahi hai. Meri gari udhar khari hai...."
"Achawwwww", she said as she turned to give him a smile.
"Jee!"
"Par koi baat nai . Main apke ghar say apko pick kar loon ga. Bus apna address bata dain. Kidhar rehti hain app?" He asked.
Mehr didn't know why she said what she said. But just for the first time she decided to respond to his shit in his way.
"Kahan rehti hoon? Mujhe laga tha 'Apke dil main'........ Par abb Sana ko bhi tu accommodate karna hai na isliye bahir nikal dia ho ga apnay. Koi baat nai. New address, 'bestie k dil main' ..." She said as she looked over her shoulder and watched him place his hand just right above his heart and then he gave her a cringe smile.
"Bhool jata hoon sub kuch! Bus app he yaad rehti hain mujhe!" He said
"Main nai bholti! I remember each and every time you put me at the bottom of your priority list! So, go to hell, Behzad!" She said with a smile as she got in the car!
"Nahi lagaega use dekh kar magar kush hai .....
Main kush nai hoon magar dekh kar lagae ga nai..."
