In Tan Rou’s mind, Xu Yan had always been a rather quiet person, methodical in his approach, and seldom involved in conflicts. Even when faced with provocation, Xu Yan typically just smiled it off. That’s why Tan Rou was so surprised to hear there had been a conflict between Feng Jiao and Xu Yan.

“You can’t blame Xu Yan for this; Feng Jiao is just too annoying.” Zhuang Liu frowned and said, “At the beginning, a few of us were discussing where to hang out. Feng Jiao wanted to go to one place, Xu Yan to another. He said he needed to buy something for Shang Jin, or else she would create a fuss when she got back, so he wanted to split up from us.”

Tan Rou said, “That sounds like a reasonable excuse. It’s fine as long as you all meet up in the end. There’s no need to stick together the whole time. I guess you wouldn’t want to sightsee with them either, right?”

Zhuang Liu responded, “Then why did you let me go with them?”

Zhuang Liu answered, “Because Feng Jiao felt that Xu Yan buying things for Shang Jin was too damaging to his male pride.”
