BREE
After having our Christmas dinner, we all spent New Years separately. Ryan was on a business trip, Jack spent it with Nora, Rose was with her dad, Faizan and Arzo spent it together with their daughter- of course- Farhan was MIA and I spent it with Finn.
After the holidays are over, we all go back to work and become busy.
I park my car in front of the Morgans' mansion and grab my bag before heading out.
The building stands tall with antique exterior design, sending off an intimidating presence to passersby or whoever comes to visit. Itâs no surprise that the place they are staying at is just as intimidating as them.
As to why Iâm here, I deliberately accepted their request when they asked to arrange a graduation party for their daughter- Emily. I was told to meet Mrs Morgan here to discuss further about the event and how she wants everything to be.
With my head held high, I step forward and head towards the front door of the mansion.
The bell echoes loudly through the mansion as I ring it. Iâm not going to lie, I almost feel like Iâm in a horror movie, somehow.
After a few moments, the door opens, revealing a young beautiful woman with long golden brown hair, dressed in a beautiful modest off-white dress.
Her light brown eyes roam over my face but she doesnât utter a word. So, I go ahead and say, âIs Mrs Morgan home? She told me to visit to discuss the upcoming event,â
The woman nods and opens the door further, gesturing for me to come in. I give her a soft smile and step inside the mansion.
She closes the door and turns around, pointing towards the hallway.
âIs she in there?â I ask
She nods and walks towards the direction she pointed at.
I follow her into the long, broad hallway. We walk quietly, she doesnât utter a word and somehow the only sound in the hallway is the sound of my steps.
We enter the grand living room filled with antique furniture and decorations. Maids working around the big space, dusting and cleaning.
Mrs Morgan, a woman dressed in a cream colored dress with full, tailored sleeves, is sitting on a sofa chair, holding a mug of coffee, a file placed on her lap as she reads from it. Her hair is tied back in a perfect bun, her neck decorated with a pearl necklace and pearl earrings shining on her ear.
The woman who brought me here doesnât utter a word about our presence. One of the maids working in the living room sees us and turns to the woman in charge, âMaâam, thereâs someone here for you,â
Mrs Morgan lifts her head at the maidâs voice and turns in her seat to see us.
âAh, you must be Bree Hartford,â she says with a smile, âplease, take a seat,â
âThank you,â I say and walk towards one of the sofa, settling down on it.
She turns her attention to the woman who brought me here, her expression immediately turning cold as she says, âwhy are you still standing here? Go bring something for the guest,â
âOh, no, itâs alright.â I quickly say as the atmosphere in the room changes.
âI insist,â Mrs Morgan says to me, her previous smile back on her face.
I look at the other woman to find out sheâs already gone.

Finn calls me as soon as I reach my apartment.
âHey,â I say, placing the phone by my ear.
âHey,â his voice reaches me and it immediately puts a smile on my face, âwhat are you doing?â
âI just got back from the Morgansâ,â I say, settling down on the couch and putting away my bag, âtheyâre my new client. Iâm arranging their daughterâs graduation party,â
âThe Morgans are here?â
âYeah. Apparently their daughter has been living here because of college.â I explain, âthey really are very secretive about their whereabouts.â
Finn hums as if thinking of something.
âWhat are you thinking?â I ask, curious.
âHow do you know Iâm thinking about something?â
âYou just hummed. And not the kind when you agree,â
He chuckles, âYou can tell different humming noises?â
âI guess so. Itâs not that hard,â
âOf course,â
I smile, ânow, tell me, what are you thinking about?â
âIâm thinking if I should tell him or not,â
âTell who what?â
âA dear friend that their target is here,â
I frown, âwhat are you talking about?â
He chuckles again, ânothing, donât worry about it,â Iâm about to push him further to properly explain what he means but I get cut off when the bell rings.
âWait a second,â I tell Finn and get up from the couch, making my way towards the door to see who it is.
I open the door to find Finn standing in the frame, a smile on his lips, his phone by his ear.
âHi, amore,â
I smile, step forward and kiss him, wrapping my arms around his neck.
He returns the kiss, his arms wrapping around my waist, tightening their grip around me.
âMissed me?â Finn asks when we pull away, his smile turned into a grin.
I nod.
âI missed you too,â he says and places a soft kiss on my lips.
I lead him further into the apartment after closing the door and we sit down on the couch. Finn takes my hand and pulls me towards him so that Iâm sitting on his lap.
âHave you eaten?â he asks, his hands slowly roaming my thighs.
I shake my head, ânot yet,â
âWhy not?â
âI just came back few minutes ago,â
He sighs, âyou need to take care of yourself, amore,â
âI do take care of myself, thank you very much,â
âI see that,â he says, placing his hands on my hips.
âHow was work?â I ask, my fingers playing with the back of his hair.
âFine,â
I hum, sensing the tension in his shoulders, âwhatâs wrong?â
âNothing,â
âYou look like somethingâs bothering you,â
âIt isnât exactly something thatâs bothering meâ¦â
âThen?â I bring my hand to his face, softly caressing his cheekbones.
âWell.." he starts, "I need to tell you something,â
My stomach fills with dread at his words and it must show on my face because Finn quickly says, âdonât overthink. Itâs not something bad.â
âWhat is it then?â
He lets out a heavy sigh, âwell⦠I was thinking that⦠we should..â
âWhat?â I ask, worried and scared at how he keeps trailing off, âFinn, youâre scaring me. What is it?-â
âWe should tell Ryan about us now.â
