Chapter 34: 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝟑𝟑

Our Love Secret | Book 02Words: 6226

BREE

After having our Christmas dinner, we all spent New Years separately. Ryan was on a business trip, Jack spent it with Nora, Rose was with her dad, Faizan and Arzo spent it together with their daughter- of course- Farhan was MIA and I spent it with Finn.

After the holidays are over, we all go back to work and become busy.

I park my car in front of the Morgans' mansion and grab my bag before heading out.

The building stands tall with antique exterior design, sending off an intimidating presence to passersby or whoever comes to visit. It’s no surprise that the place they are staying at is just as intimidating as them.

As to why I’m here, I deliberately accepted their request when they asked to arrange a graduation party for their daughter- Emily. I was told to meet Mrs Morgan here to discuss further about the event and how she wants everything to be.

With my head held high, I step forward and head towards the front door of the mansion.

The bell echoes loudly through the mansion as I ring it. I’m not going to lie, I almost feel like I’m in a horror movie, somehow.

After a few moments, the door opens, revealing a young beautiful woman with long golden brown hair, dressed in a beautiful modest off-white dress.

Her light brown eyes roam over my face but she doesn’t utter a word. So, I go ahead and say, “Is Mrs Morgan home? She told me to visit to discuss the upcoming event,”

The woman nods and opens the door further, gesturing for me to come in. I give her a soft smile and step inside the mansion.

She closes the door and turns around, pointing towards the hallway.

“Is she in there?” I ask

She nods and walks towards the direction she pointed at.

I follow her into the long, broad hallway. We walk quietly, she doesn’t utter a word and somehow the only sound in the hallway is the sound of my steps.

We enter the grand living room filled with antique furniture and decorations. Maids working around the big space, dusting and cleaning.

Mrs Morgan, a woman dressed in a cream colored dress with full, tailored sleeves, is sitting on a sofa chair, holding a mug of coffee, a file placed on her lap as she reads from it. Her hair is tied back in a perfect bun, her neck decorated with a pearl necklace and pearl earrings shining on her ear.

The woman who brought me here doesn’t utter a word about our presence. One of the maids working in the living room sees us and turns to the woman in charge, “Ma’am, there’s someone here for you,”

Mrs Morgan lifts her head at the maid’s voice and turns in her seat to see us.

“Ah, you must be Bree Hartford,” she says with a smile, “please, take a seat,”

“Thank you,” I say and walk towards one of the sofa, settling down on it.

She turns her attention to the woman who brought me here, her expression immediately turning cold as she says, “why are you still standing here? Go bring something for the guest,”

“Oh, no, it’s alright.” I quickly say as the atmosphere in the room changes.

“I insist,” Mrs Morgan says to me, her previous smile back on her face.

I look at the other woman to find out she’s already gone.

Finn calls me as soon as I reach my apartment.

“Hey,” I say, placing the phone by my ear.

“Hey,” his voice reaches me and it immediately puts a smile on my face, “what are you doing?”

“I just got back from the Morgans’,” I say, settling down on the couch and putting away my bag, “they’re my new client. I’m arranging their daughter’s graduation party,”

“The Morgans are here?”

“Yeah. Apparently their daughter has been living here because of college.” I explain, “they really are very secretive about their whereabouts.”

Finn hums as if thinking of something.

“What are you thinking?” I ask, curious.

“How do you know I’m thinking about something?”

“You just hummed. And not the kind when you agree,”

He chuckles, “You can tell different humming noises?”

“I guess so. It’s not that hard,”

“Of course,”

I smile, “now, tell me, what are you thinking about?”

“I’m thinking if I should tell him or not,”

“Tell who what?”

“A dear friend that their target is here,”

I frown, “what are you talking about?”

He chuckles again, “nothing, don’t worry about it,” I’m about to push him further to properly explain what he means but I get cut off when the bell rings.

“Wait a second,” I tell Finn and get up from the couch, making my way towards the door to see who it is.

I open the door to find Finn standing in the frame, a smile on his lips, his phone by his ear.

“Hi, amore,”

I smile, step forward and kiss him, wrapping my arms around his neck.

He returns the kiss, his arms wrapping around my waist, tightening their grip around me.

“Missed me?” Finn asks when we pull away, his smile turned into a grin.

I nod.

“I missed you too,” he says and places a soft kiss on my lips.

I lead him further into the apartment after closing the door and we sit down on the couch. Finn takes my hand and pulls me towards him so that I’m sitting on his lap.

“Have you eaten?” he asks, his hands slowly roaming my thighs.

I shake my head, “not yet,”

“Why not?”

“I just came back few minutes ago,”

He sighs, “you need to take care of yourself, amore,”

“I do take care of myself, thank you very much,”

“I see that,” he says, placing his hands on my hips.

“How was work?” I ask, my fingers playing with the back of his hair.

“Fine,”

I hum, sensing the tension in his shoulders, “what’s wrong?”

“Nothing,”

“You look like something’s bothering you,”

“It isn’t exactly something that’s bothering me…”

“Then?” I bring my hand to his face, softly caressing his cheekbones.

“Well.." he starts, "I need to tell you something,”

My stomach fills with dread at his words and it must show on my face because Finn quickly says, “don’t overthink. It’s not something bad.”

“What is it then?”

He lets out a heavy sigh, “well… I was thinking that… we should..”

“What?” I ask, worried and scared at how he keeps trailing off, “Finn, you’re scaring me. What is it?-”

“We should tell Ryan about us now.”
