Chapter 37: bridges

darling, I think

we got too old too soon

girl, I don't know what to do...

I looked through your old cards -

the ones you sent to me

and the ones I sent to you.

we were kids playing outside ever so gracefully,

not really knowing any worry there could be.

maybe that changed as we got older,

somehow time ran us over...

and maybe you never wanted me to be like you

'cause to you it meant something so cruel,

everything I never even knew -

but to me you've always been just beautiful.

maybe you put down being a poet one time around,

'cause it was happier when you went out

not thinking so much -

focusing on a career,

something to steer

your boat once shipwrecked -

now on course to perfect.

I hope the bridges you burnt

lit the way -

I think maybe it's just like first

you need to go through a lot of hurt,

to know what's meant to really stay.

and it might not be ideal,

but it's kinda nice to know

that the only way out -

is through.

darling, I think

we got too old too soon...

girl, I can promise you

I'm so sorry that I never really even knew

how all these things must've been for you,

when I would have loved,

to be there too...

may the bridges we burn light the way...
