I
I had the sensation that I was balancing precariously on pins and needles while on our way to Andersonâs estate, sitting inside the car with my hands held by Mrs. Anderson while chatting with me,
brimming with enthusiasm. I had no choice but to reply to her with a
forced smile.
Half an hour later, we finally reached Andersonâs villa. An old butler opened the door for us, welcoming us with a bright smile and ushered us to the enormous living room that was opulently furnished.
Everything about the house screamed opulence, sophistication, and class. From the immaculate white tiled floor to the chandeliers that
hang in every corner of the room, to the gold moldings that are on the ceiling, to the pricey ornaments that are in the room, every detail in this room is exquisite.
I found a comfortable spot in the middle of the enormous Victorian couch, and Sebastian took a seat next to me, with his arm falling naturally across my shoulder.
It took me by surprise when two housekeepers walked into the living room, one of them wheeling a cart filled with a variety of colorful desserts, and the other carrying a selection of beverages.
âWhat would you like to eat, Brylee?â Mrs. Anderson asked as she sat on the couch across from us, another se rvant rushed up to take her bag, and tidied up her dress.
âNo thank you⦠Iâm not hungry.â I answered politely, butâl could still see the disappointment on her face.
I once more allowed my eyes to travel around the room, this time

focusing on the various pieces of furniture and accessories. On the walls were a number of paintings, and the shelves contained a variety of ceramic vases and figures that appeared to be quite rare and
valuable.
âAt the very least, have yourself some black teaâ¦â Mrs. Anderson said and motioned the serv ant to pour some tea into the cup, to which she obliged immediately.
âThank youâ¦â I took the cup of tea from the se rvantâs hand and took a sip from it. I had to find an excuse to retreat to my room as soon as possible. Otherwise⦠if I continued to be interviewed like this, I would. be exposed sooner or later.
âSo⦠when are we going to have the wedding?â Sebastianâs mom asked, nearly causing me to spit out the tea that I was drinking. I could feel Sebastianâs hand rubbing my back in a relaxing way.
âI think⦠we still need some more time to discuss this matter. Right,
Sebastian?â
I let out a breath of relief when he nodded. âYes, mom⦠sheâs still busy with her academic pursuits.â
âOkay⦠But since you two are already engaged, you should only refrain from using any kind of birth control for the time beingâ¦â
The shock of her words knocked the breath out of me, and I ended up spitting out the tea I had been drinking. âIâ¦Iâm sorryâ¦â I quickly grabbed a piece of tissue paper in preparation to remove the teal stain, but the maid beat me to it. I did nothing but sit there and observe her cleaning the table.
âWhatâs wrong?â The expression of concern appeared on Mrs. Andersonâs face as she proceeded to sit next to me and stroked me softly on the back while simultaneously holding my other hand in a gentle squeeze. âDid you just choke?â

My whole body tensed up.
â⦠I guess the tea just went down the wrong pipe in a rushâ¦â I smiled awkwardly, my face was a little pale.
âSilly⦠why are you such in a hurry?â she questioned as she grinned and ran her fingers through my hair. âIf you would like, you are more. than welcome to take some of the tea with you when you go home to your father so that he may give it a tryâ¦â
Even her voice was incredibly soft. Despite the fact that I was aware that the concern she was expressing wasnât aimed at me, I was nevertheless filled with gratitude and joy.
âBut hereâs the thing⦠Sebastian is already 27 years old, and he isnât going to get much younger in the foreseeable futureâ¦â The most current topic was revisited by Mrs. Anderson. âWhen his father was his age, his children could already boss people aroundâ¦â she chuckled. âSince youâre already engaged⦠why donât you let me see my grandchild before the wedding, huh?â
I immediately straightened up, unable to fathom the motivation behind her statement to me. When I turned to look at Sebastian, I was met with a grin on his face, indicating that he was enjoying himself listening to my conversation with his mother.
What a jerk!
âWhy are you smiling like a fool, son? What can you say about my suggestion?â
He gave a shrug of the shoulders while looking at me directly in the eyes. âWell⦠what mom said makes perfect senseâ¦â Sebastian nodded, looking like a king making a decision, and his motherâs smile let me know that she was, in fact⦠extremely pleased with his answer.
âDonât worryâ¦â she said. âYour father and I are currently talking about

the wedding day, and I will let you know very soon what the outcome is. So⦠you donât have to worry, just pop out the babyâ¦â
I coughed as I uncomfortably tucked a few strands of my hair behind my ear and gently wriggled my hand out of Mrs. Andersonâs grasp
âIâm very sorry, but⦠I feel like I have an upset stomach. I need to get some restâ¦â I couldnât stand the thought of going through another
minute of this conversation with her, in which we discussed the
possibility of me having a child with the man who was just sitting there looking amused as he listened and watched us.
To make matters worse, Iâm not even his fiancée to have a
conversation like this with his mom!
âI was just thinking about talking to you when I completely forgot that you are still illâ¦â She leaned in and gently caressed my cheek as she smiled and planted a kiss on the top of my head. âSeb, my son⦠Show Brylee your room so that she can get some rest nowâ¦â
What did she mean his room?
âIâ¦Iâm good!â I exclaimed in a startled manner.
âWhat?â Mrs. Anderson couldnât help but frown in bewilderment first, but then her face lit up and her eyes filled with amazement as she stared at me in surprise, when she finally understood what was going on in my mind. âHavenât you slept together yet?â
I was speechless and froze in my chair, I had no idea what to say.
âSeb! Whatâs going on?â she shrieked. âYou havenât⦠you havenât completed the romantic phase of your relationship with Brylee yet? My G od! What kind of a man are you!â
Sebastian didnât speak. An unfathomable smile flashed across his eyes before he raised his brow and gave his mother a look.
âDonât take this the wrong way, Bryleeâ¦â his mom said, rolling her

eyes towards her son, giving the impression that she was trying to persuade me and compelling me to attempt to comprehend her line of thinking. âAre you thinking about keeping your chastity
ty after marriage?â
How am I even supposed to respond to that question when Sebastian and I are both aware that he had already had my very first experience?
âBrylee, youâre already engaged with my son, and thereâs absolutely nothing wrong about that. Unless⦠this is not your first time?â She went right to the point, her brows raised, and she gave off the
impression that she would be disappointed if I told her that it wasnât my very first time.
âIt was my first time, and he knows all about it!â I exclaimed, and it was at that moment that I realized that I had just let it slip that something had already happened to us.
There was complete and utter silence after thatâ¦.
Oh my Go d!
All I wanted right now was for the ground to open up and swallow whole when I saw the amusement in Mrs. Andersonâs eyes while son appeared to be beaming in triumph.
