Chapter 8

Roan: I want her.

The 100 Imagines/OneShot

War drums. The day had been peaceful to say the least, worry casted over Arkadia like a dark cloud but everyone was peaceful. Then came the sound from off in distance that made everyone drop what they were doing. For a collective minute everyone in the camp was deathly quiet, no one dared breathe as everyone listened. War drums.

Many in the camp didn't know what they were for sure, or who was sounding them, but you had been with Bellamy and the others when The Ice Nation first played their song of war. Your stomach sank; an invisible clock started counting down as the sound got louder. You finally forced a hot breath into your lungs and took off in the direction of Kane. True to say Pike was the so called leader, but you knew you needed Kane at the front lines defending against Pikes irrational craving for war. Just as you run up to the doors of the Med bay, where he spent most of his time with Abbey, he stepped out.

"Kane" You said breathlessly, leaning against the wall.

"Y/n are you-"Kane placed a hand on your shoulder and looked at you with concern. He had always been kind to you; he took care of you like a father would even when you didn't want it. But this was not the time for him to worry about you, and you knew that.

"Kane, they're coming. The drums, The Ice Nation. They're coming." You say hurriedly, one hand still placed against the wall to sturdy yourself. Kane retracts his hand and turns, facing the north wall. He gently pushed you behind him in an attempt to get you to safety, but you stubbornly followed him as he rushed toward the gate. With much luck you two get there before Pike, but he wasn't far behind.

"Kane..." You say quietly, slightly wrapping yourself on his arm like a small child who's afraid.

"It'll be okay, Y/n. Just say behind me." He says, never taking his eyes off the Gate.

"Kane!" Pike yells from behind, quickly he walks up to the both of you and takes his place beside Kane.

"What the hell is going on?" He asks annoyance in his voice. Kane continues to stare at the Gate as he replies.

"War drums. The Ice Nation is coming."

"War drums?! Fine. Let 'em have it." Pike says defiantly, clenching his fists. Your breath hitches in your throat, the last thing you want is Pike provoking The Ice Nation and getting all of Arkadia slaughtered.

"ARMS AT READY! SHOOT TO KILL!" Pike yells, and all the guards aim at the tree line.

"Pike! Don't do this! Let them talk first!" Kane pleads, turning to him.

"Why? You said they were war drums, why let them fire first? They need to know we-"

"Enough Pike! They will kill us all, please just give me a damn minute to talk to them!" Kane shouts, startling you and surprising Pike. There is a moment of silence before Pike glances up at the guard towers.

"Don't shoot!" He yells, and returns his gaze to Kane.

"Anyone they kill is on you." Pike says, and steps back. He motions for them to open the gate, as they do you can see the Ice Nation breaking the tree line. You reluctantly let go of Kane, allowing him to meet the warriors at the borderline of Arkadia.

"People of Arkadia!" A man on a white horse yells, he rests in front of all the others leading you to believe he is the leader.

"I am Roan, Prince of The Ice Nation. I have come on my mother's behalf."

"My name is Kane; I will speak for my people." Kane speaks bravely, standing directly in front of the army.

"The Queen has requested the leader of Arkadia's head; in return she will grant you peace." Roan speaks with a strong and brave voice, as if he fears nothing.

"Is that really necessary?" Kane says, trying to negotiate a less violent ending. Roan's eyes travel through the crown of people now watching them, his eyes meet yours and they stop. You stand tall in front of all of those people, making it clear your intention to protect them. The way you stand, the strength in your eyes, you're the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Eyes locked on yours, he raises a hand to silence Kane. He slips off his horse and walks directly in front of him, only then breaking eye contact.

"You want peace?"

"Yes, of course but-"

"Without violence, I get it. Her." He points to you and your eyes widen.

"Give me her, and no harm will come to anyone in Arkadia." He says, staring into the eyes of Kane.

"No, No way. Kill me if you half to-"Kane begins but Roan interrupts him again.

"Your death is no longer an option. It's either her, or everyone here dies."

You hear everything that is said, and you make the split second decision to save your people. You walk bravely up to the two men, and touch Kane's arm.

"It's alright, Kane. Ill go." You say, sadness obviously in your voice but you try to hide it.

"Y/n, no!" Kane tries to protest but you ignore him. You instead turn your attention to Roan.

"Will I be safe with you?" You ask, desperately trying to seem brave. He smiles slightly at you and nods. You look down for a second and nod in return; you look back up at him and extend a hand out.

"Then I will go with you."

Your words evidently please him; he smiles and takes your hand. He turns to lead you to his horse but Kane catches your arm.

"Y/n, please don't do this. There is another way." He pleads, and you give him a soft smile.

"No, there isn't, and that's okay. I'm going to be okay. Stay safe, Kane. Please." You say softly, you see fear and sadness flood into his eyes and he gently lets you go. He nods at you and you turn, following Roan to his horse. With ease he helps you up onto the beautiful animal, and then gets on behind you. His arms wrap around you to hold to reins, his gentle lips brush against your ear.

"You will be safe with me, princess."

"My name is not princess." You say sternly, and he chuckles. As the army falls back and you two begin heading back into the forest he speaks again.

"Soon it will be." His voice sends a shiver down your spine.

"What does that even mean?" You retort, trying to seem like you were scared of him.

"It means, you will soon be a Princess. My princess."
