Chapter 12

09~one more enemy

His Longing❤️

It's been three months since I joined this university, and what a rollercoaster ride it's been. Zain and I have been at odds, constantly clashing whenever we cross paths. From the infamous egg incident, where he broke almost 100 eggs on my head, leaving me smelling awful for two weeks, to the mud debacle, where I poured 20 buckets of mud on him, complete with turtles, our rivalry knows no bounds.

We've even escalated to using reptiles and insects as ammunition. It's safe to say we hate each other's guts. We're sworn enemies, always ready to pounce on each other.

I was in class when an announcement came over the loudspeaker: "All students from the Business, Engineering, and Fashion departments are requested to report to the auditorium within 15 minutes." Everyone rushed out of class, eager to see what this gathering was about.

I met up with Kriti at the cafeteria, and we headed to the auditorium together. When we arrived, we saw not only freshmen but also seniors from various departments. It seemed the announcement had been made to all departments.

As we took our seats, Zain Malik, the college president, took the stage. "Good morning, everyone. I'd like to introduce myself to the freshmen. I'm Zain Malik, and I'd like to call Mr. Knight to the stage."

Our principal began his speech, "Good morning, students. Today, I'd like to inform you about an upcoming competition. Top colleges from London will be participating, and we've come close to winning in the past two years, thanks to Zain and his team. However, this time, I want us to take the top spot. To prepare you for this challenge, I'd like to announce a special gift – a one-week trip for students from the Fashion, Engineering, and Business departments."

The auditorium erupted in cheers and applause. I was excited, but a nagging feeling told me there was more to this trip than met the eye.

As the principal left the stage, Zain began to share the details of the trip. I tuned him out, scrolling through my Instagram feed instead. Zain glared at me, but I ignored him.

The trip details were straightforward: we'd be staying for a week, participating in tasks, and camping in groups of five. We'd need to elect a girls' captain, as Zain would be leading the boys.

As the assembly dispersed, I met up with Kriti, and we headed back to class. The rest of the day flew by in a blur.

The next morning, we attended classes and then headed to the auditorium for the election results. I wasn't interested in the outcome, but I tagged along anyway.

As the principal announced the two candidates, Liya Parker and Saarah Khan, my jaw dropped. What the...? Who had nominated me for this position without my consent? And why was I pitted against Liya Parker, of all people?

As I stood there, reeling from the shock, I couldn't help but wonder why I always seemed to find myself at odds with my enemies. There's a long story behind my animosity with Liya, but that's a tale for another time.

//FLASHBACK//

It was my second day of college, and I was enjoying my lunch in the canteen when a girl approached me. "Hey, brown hair," she said, catching my attention.

I looked up at her, and she continued, "You're the next target of Zain, right?" I felt a surge of annoyance. Why did everyone assume I was just a target?

"No, you're wrong," I corrected her. "I'm not his target. He's my target." The canteen erupted in hoots and cheers.

The girl's expression turned possessive. "You brown hair, I'm telling you to stay away from him. He's mine." I recognized her as Liya Parker, the most popular girl in college, known for her multiple boyfriends and scandalous behavior.

I smirked, unimpressed. "Really? Well, let me tell you, I'm not interested in him. Plus, he's not my type." Liya's eyes narrowed, and she sneered, "Oh, I know girls like you, from small countries, trying to get attention by messing with the college's phoenix."

Her insult was cut short when I suddenly threw coffee in her face. "You bloody bitch, how dare you!" she yelled, raising her hand to slap me. I caught her wrist and twisted it backward, making her groan in pain.

As we stood there, locked in a tense standoff, I hissed, "You dare to insult my country? India is not a small country, get that?" The canteen fell silent, with everyone watching our confrontation.

--- Flashback ends ---

That's how my fight with Liya started. Now, as I stood on the stage, I decided to withdraw my name from the election. I didn't want to be captain, and I definitely didn't want to compete with Liya.

I took the mic from Zain and announced, "Hello everyone, as you know, I didn't submit my name for this election. I don't know who did, but I'm withdrawing my name. I don't want to be captain."

The audience began to murmur, and then a voice called out, "But we want you as our captain!" The crowd started cheering, and I realized they didn't want Liya as their captain.

Liya smirked, "Don't worry, guys, if someone's already scared before the election, let her withdraw, and I'll be your captain."

I stood my ground. "I'm not scared of you."

Liya raised an eyebrow. "Then prove it."

I smiled, accepting the challenge. "Okay, I'm in."

The college erupted in cheers, and Aditya announced, "There's no need to wait any longer, as we've already conducted votes from students. So, the result is..."
