Chapter 40: Prom Douchebag.

Let Me In.Words: 10186

"Uhm... What is this?"

"Hello to you, too, Brittany."

Standing on the other side of Brittany's front door was West. With him was his new, but not so new guitar and amplifier. He figured it was time to let his best friend know what he loved doing the most, he was finally ready to share his love for music with the ones closest to him.

Brittany narrowed her eyes suspiciously at the image in front of her. West just didn't seem like the guitar type. "You play guitar now?"

"Could you let me in, please. I saw your parents leave twenty minutes ago. Date night, is it?"

"Oh, wow. Stalker, much?"

West raised his shoulder in a half shrug, "It's my job as your best friend to know you and your parents' every move."

"That is fair." Brittany nodded, she moved aside to make way for West. "You may enter."

He walked into the house and to the living room to set up his instrument for playing, "And to answer your question, I do play guitar now. I've been playing for a while, and you know... singing." He revealed to his best friend who dropped down next to him on the sofa.

"Wow, you are just the complete package, aren't you? Why didn't you tell me?"

West thought back to why he was keeping it a secret in the first place, he just didn't want anyone to spoil things for him so he became selfish with that which he loved. Everything that he'd ever shown an interest in had always disgusted Paul so much so that he himself started to hate those things, music was one thing he was determined to stay committed to, though.

"You're the first person to know this about me. Aside from my Dad, who found out a few months ago."

Brittany cringed at the mention of her best friend's Dad, if it was a few months ago then surely Paul blew up on West. "Yeah? How did he react?"

"It wasn't pretty. But I guess he's okay with it now."

"Okay, so you're here to give me a free concert, right?" She beamed excitedly.

"Not exactly. But I will be inviting you to plenty of them in time."

"What's that mean?"

West took a deep breath before a huge, genuine grin overtook his face, "I got accepted into a music programme in Michigan!"

"What? No way!"

"Yes, way! That's why I didn't tell you what I applied for. I wasn't sure they'd take me."

"Why the fuck not?" His best friend exclaimed. "You're like, insanely talented!"

She knew for a fact that West put his heart into everything he did, and even though she'd never heard him sing before, she was a hundred percent sure that they had accepted him for a reason - he was talented. She'd been longing for something big, something wonderful, to happen to West, and quite recently, he'd been getting treated as good as he deserved, he had found someone he liked, maybe loved, and now he had gotten accepted into a school far, far away, just like he had always wished. She couldn't help but feel elated for her best friend.

"Brittany, you don't even know what I sound like."

"Your point?"

"Hehe," West snickered, "Thanks, I guess. Have you received an acceptance letter?"

"Yep. University of Florida, can you imagine?"

"I can imagine, yeah. That's great news, Brittany."

They both took a moment to revel in the contented atmosphere, who would've thought that just a few months later, their lives would've changed so drastically, and in such an amazing way, too?

"We're both finally leaving this town."

West nodded solemnly, the thought of leaving now, after having it so good these past two months was upsetting. "Hard to believe, huh?"

"You don't seem too eager to leave..."

"I'm excited about college, the leaving is what's going to be hard, though. My Dad's here... Killian's here. I don't know how I'm going to tell him."

"I'm sure he'll understand. " She reassured him with a tender smile, "Plus, you still have a month left with him, just make the most of it."

"You're right. Oh, and uh... I kinda need you to help me write a ridiculously sweet song for him."

"Oh, that's what the guitar is for..."

"Yes ma'am. So, will you?"

"It'd be an honor."

Just as West was about to switch on his amplifier, a text came through on his phone from Ophelia, he rolled his eyes but opened it anyway as he always did, unfortunately for her, she was always left on read, but maybe this time she wouldn't be.

"Shit. Yolanda got hit by a car."

----------------

Around midnight, Killian awoke to the sound of glass violently smashing against the tiled floor of his and Trenton's bedroom. He tore the covers off his body and tiredly wiped the sleep from his eyes before cursing at the huge hole that had formed as a result of a literal rock through his window.

"What the fuck--"

He turned on his bedside lamp, then hopped out of the bed to check if the noise had awoken his little brother, fortunately, it hadn't, so he gently opened what was left of his window before clutching the window frame and popping his head out to scan the perimeter for the culprit. The cool breeze nipped at the bare skin of his arms and his body released an involuntary shake. He made a mental note to purchase ductape so he could patch the hole up later on in the day.

"I didn't mean to do that!" A voice yelled from below.

It startled Killian so much that he lost his grip on the window frame and almost fell out. He tried to calm his racing heart by exhaling several times like the pregnant women he'd seen on on TV did when they were in labor. It wasn't a long drop from the first floor, but he was convinced he had just had a near death experience.

"Are you hyperventilating? I didn't mean to hit your window so hard. Looks easier in the movies, definitely. I'll pay for that."

In my defense, there weren't any pebbles to throw at the window.

Killian recognized the voice. He silently thanked the Gods that his mother was M.I.A again, else she'd be making quite the scene right now.

"It's midnight, and you're throwing rocks at my window. To what do I owe the fucking pleasure?"

"That actually reminds me of a song by 5 Sec--"

"West." Killian snapped. He hated being interrupted from his beauty sleep. Yes, even by his boyfriend.

"Okay, okay. I have a surprise for you."

"You couldn't call like a normal person?"

"Where's the fun in that?" West grinned sheepishly.

"What's the surprise?"

West stuck out his index finger as if to say 'Wait', before opening the driver's door to his Toyota and connecting his cell to the auxiliary cord and playing the song he'd recorded with Brittany's help earlier.

"I like you, you like me

We're a happy couple, you see

I know it's too late,

but I just couldn't wait

Won't you go to prom with me, babe?"

The song he'd recorded was ridiculous, alright. But West thought it was fitting... and also very funny, but sweet at the same time. The melody was chosen by Brittany and was the same as Barney's 'I love you' song.

After playing it three times for whatever reason, West exited his car with a bouquet of Forget-me-nots then smiled at the boy staring at him incredulously from the first floor.

"What the hell is wrong with you? Honest question." Killian asked, and even though his voice was raised, anyone within a five mile radius would be able to tell that he was trying hard not to smile. He eyed the flowers in West's hands and his stomach burst into a trillion butterflies. He couldn't believe West had remembered what his favorite flowers were.

"What's wrong with me-- is that I'm trying to ask you to prom, douchebag!" West yelled back.

"At fucking twelve a.m in the morning? Are you crazy?"

The whole looked like a typical rom-com scene. Boy meets girl, boy develops a crush for said girl, girl rejects him, boy gets the idea to confess his love for said girl through song while she watches on impressed, through her bedroom window. Except, none of that ever happened in West and Killian's case, firstly, they were both boys, secondly, them getting together wasn't as easy as it looked in the movies, thirdly, there was never any screaming back and forth involved in the movies.

"Only for you."

Killian couldn't help breaking out into a smile then, he knew West was a softie deep down, but he ever expected such a wondrous gesture. "I hate you."

"So, it's a yes, then?"

"Fuck yeah it's a yes, I love Barney!"

"Yeah, you... you look like the Barney type."

"Shut up!"

West let out a laugh when he noticed that Killian was pouting, the whole picture was just too cute for words. He suddenly had the intense desire to kiss him. "Why don't you come down here and make me?" He challenged.

"Bet."

Killian disappeared from the window and grabbed a sweater before making his way downstairs, when he got outside, he was surprised to see that his most of his neighbors' lights were still off, he had expected them to have called the cops over the commotion by now.

He then walked over to West's car, only to find him sprawled out in the backseat, flowers in hand.

"Come inside, sweetheart."

Killian chuckled at West's attempt to be sexy, he pulled the door open before hopping into the Toyota and snuggling right up to his boyfriend. "I feel like a hooker." He joked.

"I will gladly be your most loyal customer..."

West threw the flowers in the frontseat then clasped the back of Killian's neck and pulled him close before pressing their lips together. He released a moan at the contact and pushed him down onto the seat, running his hand feverously through the boy's silky, blonde hair, just as they were getting into it, West abrubtly broke into a fit of laughter against Killian's lips. He pulled back, then ran a hand over his face as he groaned. At that moment, he really hated his mind.

"Sorry, I just-- I was thinking of something."

Killian frowned before sitting back up again, "What?"

"Yolanda getting hit by a car."

"I heard about that. It's not funny, I heard both her legs are broken."

"I know, I know. But my brain keeps showing me these images of her getting hurled into the air like a piece of paper and-- You just wouldn't get it."

"Okay. Okay, yeah," Killian agreed after playing it out in his own head, "It is kind of funny."

"We should send her a get well soon card, though."

"Definitely." Killian nodded as he brought his face closer to West's, eyes fixated on his lips.

"You'll get it right?"

"Definitely..."
