Chapter 25: Lucky

SLOAN

Soon, we’re both ready and dressed for the day. Kade drives me to work, and we make plans to meet for lunch. When I get into the office, I walk straight to Marlene’s office and knock on the door.

“Come in.”

“Good morning, Marlene.”

“Sloan, how are you feeling?”

“Better. Actually, do you have a few minutes to talk?”

“Sure, come, sit.”

I close the door behind me and take a seat across from Marlene.

“What’s going on?” she asks.

“I know that you will be discreet, but you’re the first person I’m telling and I need you to keep this between us for now.”

“Okay, is everything okay?” Marlene looks concerned.

“Actually, yeah, I’m pregnant.”

“Congratulations, Sloan! That’s amazing.”

“We’re really happy, I had to go for an extra scan yesterday; that’s why I had to call off, but there’s more.”

“Okay. Tell me what you need.”

“Right now, nothing, but I’m due in four months,” I admit.

“Holy! Where is your bump?”

“I guess, since I do Pilates, I’m not showing yet, but they said the baby is growing, and yeah, four months.”

“Well, Sloan… Obviously, we need you here, but I don’t want you to push yourself too hard. You get full maternity benefits, and I know you have time off saved. You just tell me what you need.”

“Right now, I just wanted to explain my absence yesterday. We’re telling our families tonight; if anything comes up, I’ll let you know.”

“Thank you for telling me, Sloan, and really, congratulations. I’m so happy for you. You and Kade make such a sweet couple.”

“Thank you. Is there anything I missed yesterday?”

“There are some notes on your desk, but I think you’re good.”

“Thanks again.” I smile.

I stand up and go back to my office and try to focus on working.

After I check my emails and return phone calls, I have a little time, so I call my landlord to talk about the apartment.

I agree to pay for one more month if I can have two weeks to clean it out. It’s about the best situation I could have asked for.

I’m a little lost in thought, planning the nursery, when Kade shows up.

He grins. “Hey, babies, are you hungry?”

“Babies? You’re so sweet.” I walk around the desk and kiss and hug him tightly.

He walks me down to the car and helps me inside. “What are you thinking for lunch?”

“Honestly, I’m really craving a cheeseburger.”

“I know just the spot.”

“I talked to Marlene. She is good to go. She told me I have full maternity benefits and I can use my time off if I need to,” I explain.

“Perfect, one less stress for you.”

“I also called my apartment. I agreed to pay for an additional month so I don’t have to pay to break the lease early. I have two weeks to clean it out because he wants to start showing it.

“Okay, baby, we’ll get it done,” he assures me.

“How was your meeting?”

“Not bad, we had a conference call with the producer they want us to work with. He seems pretty chill; we got along.”

“That’s good. Any idea about when you’ll go to Chicago?”

“I asked, but they said they haven’t scheduled it yet. I will tell you as soon as I know.”

Soon, we arrive at the diner down the street from my apartment. Kade brings me inside and gets me the cheeseburger I’ve been craving, and then he takes me to my apartment so I can get my car.

“Baby, give me your keys. I’ll load up some more stuff and lock up when I’m done.”

“You don’t have to do that, I’ll help you.”

“I want to do that. Just your clothes and things. You can decide what you want to do with the furniture and what you want to bring to the house.”

I hand him my keys. “I don’t know how I got so lucky. You’re the best.”

He places his hand on my belly. “No, you’re the best, you’re taking care of Clover Mae, and that’s all I could ever ask for right now.”

He presses a sweet kiss to my lips and sends me on my way.

When I get back to the office, the afternoon goes by quickly, because Marlene drops a lot of assignments on my lap.

When it’s time to go home, I try to steady my nerves as I drive. I just hope telling our family goes as well as it did telling Marlene.

They should be happy, right? They obviously all supported the engagement.

When I pull into the driveway of my new house, it’s still surreal. It’s the first time I’m driving home and parking my car here.

When I go inside, the house smells amazing, and Kade is hard at work in the kitchen.

“Hey, babe, it smells great in here. I just need to take my shoes off and I’ll be back down to help you.”

“Take your time. Take a bath or whatever you want. I’m pretty much done.”

“Kade! You did too much.”

“I had some free time today; no reason not to use it. I’m excited about tonight.” He grins.

“Me too.”

I can’t believe how lucky I am; Kade is so good to me. He told me to take all the time I need, so I decide to take a bath.

Soon after, Kade wanders into the bathroom. “Hey, beautiful, how’s your bath?”

I smile. “So nice, babe, thank you.”

“You’ve been spoiling me for the last few months; now, I get to spoil you.”

I laugh. “How did I spoil you?”

“You put up with me,” he says, chuckling, and I flick water at him. “How is your back today?”

“My shoulders are tight, but the pillow thing helped my back.”

Kade sits on the edge of the tub and goes to work on my shoulders.

“Mm, that’s perfect.”

“Sloan, you’re perfect. I’m loving the view right now.” he flirts.

“Oh, yeah? How much time do we have? Want an up-close look?”

“Stop teasing me, woman.” He grabs my hand and helps me out of the tub.

After he wraps a towel around me, he throws me over his shoulder and jogs to the bed. Usually, he would playfully toss me in but, this time, he lays me down sweetly.

“Kade?”

“I’m just making sure I don’t hurt you or Clover. I’ll toss you around again in a few months, I promise.” He winks.

“Come here.”

Kade leans in close and kisses me with a fiery passion. I tug at his shorts, so he stands up and kicks them off and dives back into bed with me.

He wraps his arms around me, and in one swift motion, I’m on top of him.

He smirks. “Tell me what you want, baby.”

“I’d rather show you.” I slide down his body and take his hard length into my mouth.

“Mm, Sloan…”

I hollow my cheeks and pump him with my hand until he’s moaning my name, then deftly slide up his body, center myself, and sink down onto him.

He grips my hips, and I start to move, slow and steady, savoring every thrust.

Kade circles my clit with his thumb, and I can’t keep my composure anymore. I start to ride him, hard and fast.

I feel him twitch inside me, and my orgasm hits like a tidal wave with him following close behind.

“Wow, babe,” I gasp.

“Yeah, you are incredible.” He pulls me into his arms.

I giggle. “Now we need another shower.”

“Yeah, better get to it; we only have like a half hour.”

Kade and I jump in the shower and keep it extremely PG, then get ready as quickly as possible.
