"...exactly what I didn't need right now,"
The world had seemed to slow down for Selena. The first few buttons of her shirt were opened and she could see the malicious smile on his face when suddenly the guy was ripped away from her. Before she could comprehend who it was, someone covered her up with what seemed to her like a blanket.
She turned to look in the direction where all the action was happening in her room. She would recognize these two males anywhere, Xavier and Ryan.
Ryan was trying to pull Xavier away from Scott when Ileana wrapped her arms around Selena. The poor girl was shivering badly and the scream and curse of the two leaders of the pack had already attracted a lot of pack members, who were curiously peeking into her room. All of these pack members could feel their alphas fury, as could Selena. All of them were deeply curious about what had gotten their alpha so angry.
"Fucking hell, Scott! What the fuck is wrong with you!?" Xavier screamed furiously as he landed another punch on Scott.
Ryan had stopped his attack a while ago, he was standing a few steps away, looking at Scott with disgust and anger. However, he couldn't let his alpha murder one of his pack members. He sighed and took a few steps towards them.
Ryan pulled Xavier away from his target. The guy was almost unconscious on the floor, barely breathing. Xavier was still breathing hard and fast. His fists were clenched and clearly, he was still furious. His eyes were turning silver ever so often, Zion was very much on the surface.
Selena had only taken a peek at Xavier's face and she held her face in her hands, almost as if she was trying to hide from the world as Ileana held her tighter. Selena didn't want to look at the scene; she didn't even want to believe that anything like this was actually happening to her again. Ileana was also very much shaken, she didn't expect even for a second that someone in her pack could do that.
"Everyone. Leave," Xavier said, a bit too calmly for Ryan's liking, he could only wonder how angry Xavier was, he couldn't even imagine how he would have reacted if this had happened to Ileana. Roy, the gamma, held Scott by his collar and was dragging him out. "Take this prick to the dungeon, I'll deal with him later."
"Yes, Alpha," Roy responded respectfully.
Ileana held Selena tightly and rubbed her forearms a few times before she got up. She didn't know what to say to Selena, neither did Ryan. But they both knew that these two needed to talk She walked to Ryan and the two walked out of the room together.
Xavier stood there for a while, still trying to calm himself. The alpha wolf was furious about Scott, but what made him even angrier was the situation they were in. He wanted to be with his mate, he wanted to hold her, make her feel loved and special.
But he couldn't... instead, he was stuck with making his mate feel like a freaking traitor, and he had no proof to defend her.
He looked at the girl trembling on the bed and his arms ached to hold her, but the way Selena looked at him, it didn't feel like she wanted him to touch her. Did he have anyone to blame for that? No, he didn't.
Xavier sighed, and he asked what he knew was the most stupid question at that time, "Are... are you okay?"
"May I be left alone?" she asked in her trembling, weak voice. Xavier just stood there, still looking at her. Anyone looking at him could see how much the guy was hurting. "Please," Selena said again.
"Okay," he replied with a single, stiff nod, "Take rest," he said and walked out of the room. Closing the door, he leaned on the other side of it. He didn't want to leave the room. He couldn't stay there though, he had to give her the space she needed. Finally, a few minutes later, he left.
Selena was on the bed, under the cover with only her head out, facing away from the door and crying silently. She hated how weak and vulnerable she felt. She couldn't fight; she didn't even have enough power to shove him off.
She stilled when another knock sounded on the door. When the door opened, she relaxed a bit when the scent of her mate. She kept her eyes closed and laid still. Xavier asked hesitantly, "Have you eaten anything?"
Selena didn't answer. She had already slowed down her heart rate and her breathing was also even, something she was an expert in while being held captive by the hunters since they would only stop beating her when they thought she had lost consciousness.
He breathed shakily and left again.
Xavier didn't go to his room first. He went to the game room where he knew the teenagers had some hidden alcohol. He took enough for a werewolf to get drunk and retired to his room.
Xavier was feeling extremely frustrated. Firstly, he was extremely horny, seeing that the scent of his mate, who was in heat, was driving him crazy. Secondly, it had been nearly three weeks and he had been crazily searching for something, anything to prove that Selena is not a traitor.
His frustration was justified. One of the main reasons for that being, Xavier had noticed quite a few times, scents of humans in his territory. Another scent that was also almost always present with it was that of one of his pack members. But the scent was very vague. Whoever that was, had used a lot of perfume to make sure that their own scent was well covered.
However, the scents always lead him in circles. All the leads he found, which weren't many, always left him moving in circles.
So technically, right now, his pack was at risk, someone from his pack is clearly helping the hunters and he doesn't know who, the evidence he received shows his mate was a traitor but his heart didn't believe that. There was no way that Selena, his Selena, was a traitor.
The time was passing at the speed of lightning. It was midnight right now and he was alone in his room, almost completely drunk; and considering the fact that werewolves cannot get drunk easily, Xavier had really drunk a lot.
He looked like a typical heartbroken lover, drunk on alcohol and drowning in sorrow, almost close to giving up.
He was sitting on a chair facing the open window. The clear view of the woods behind his house did a good job of calming his heart. It was at a time like this, that he heard a knock on the door of his room. Before he could answer, the door opened and in came Stacy.
Xavier was caught by surprise. His room was on the top floor and Stacy's on the ground floor, she had no reason to be up there. He even squinted his eyes just to make sure that it was her.
He stood up and looked at her with concern, "Hey Stacy, did you need something?"
"I just wanted to check how you were doing," she smiled at him kindly, "I saw the whole thing down there, it wasn't hard to figure out you might need someone."
Xavier sighed and smiled back at her, "I'll be fine, Stacy. Don't worry about me. It's late, you should go get some rest."
Saying this, he turned around but Stacy's words stopped him, "I know you do this, push people away when you need them the most. I am not leaving," she said sternly yet with a tint of concern, "Just talk to me. I promise you will feel lighter."
Xavier sighed, not having the energy to fight her at that time, and sat back on his chair. He really didn't want here with him right now, but he didn't have the energy to argue as well.
"You're thinking about her," Stacy commented, Xavier turned to look at her with a blank face and under his stare, Stacy finished her sentence, "Selena."
"How do I not?" Xavier whispered, he turned to see outside again, "She's my mate. How do I not think about her, Stacy?"
Annoyance and angered flared through Stacy. She gripped the bed-sheet tightly. So much trouble just to get rid of one she-wolf and she is still on his mind, she rolled her eyes.
"She's not what you think, Xavier," the guy closed his eyes now and took a deep breath, "You saw the video. You heard everything they said. That letter? It's all so clear, Xavier," she pleaded.
When Xavier didn't reply, she spoke again, "You know you need to tell the elders about it right? The council needs to know,"
"I know," Xavier replied a bit louder than he had intended, "I just need to sort a few things out in the pack first, I will tell them."
"Xav..."
"She's my mate Stacy," he looked at Stacy, "She's the one destined to be mine, chosen by the Goddess. It is not easy for me to just believe that she has betrayed me and the pack. So I'd prefer it if you just gave me some time to deal with all the shit happening." He took another sip, directly from one of the numerous bottles.
"I spoke to Scott," Stacy muttered suddenly.
Xavier's eyes stilled at her, they looked cold and deadly, "You what?"
"Yup, apparently Selena called him in to..."
"No," he interrupted her, "She wouldn't."
"You read the note Xavier, you knew she doesn't feel that way for you. Please stop hurting yourself like this," she tried to plead.
"I said, she wouldn't do that Stacy." He spoke, the dominance of his nature clearly evident in his voice, stopped Stacy momentarily in her attempts.
He didn't wanna tell her about his escapades where he was trying to gain proof. For some reason, Zion didn't trust her.
Xavier regretted doing what he did that day. It was impulsive and he shouldn't have done that. But his emotions overpowered him that day. His wolf had not believed that Selena could do it.
Stacy was losing patience now, she wasn't there to talk about the girl she hated more than anything. No, she's had enough and she was now ready to make a move.
She swiftly got up from the bed and walked to the chair Xavier sat on. She leaned forward and touched his cheeks. Xavier still pretty drunk, was startled and he blinked numerous times as Stacy made him face her.
"Stacy, what..." he asked bewildered.
"Shh," she whispered, "Let me take your pain away, Xavier," Xavier looked at her eyes. She smiled softly and sat on his lap. One of her hands rested on his cheek and the other one on the back of his head.
Xavier blinked, he was trying to understand if he was dreaming or if this was really happening. But then the scent of Stacy hit him like a brick and he pushed her down harshly.
"Xavier! What the hell!" She exclaimed as she stood up. She looked at him angrily and Xavier too returned her stare with equal anger as he stood up.
"Get out of my room," he said in a firm voice.
Stacy panicked, she was really looking forward to this night, hoping it will work, this was her chance to shatter Selena completely. "Xavier, just listen to me once, I..."
"I said, LEAVE!" Zion said as Xavier's eyes glowed silver. Afraid for her life, Stacy stumbled out of the room and Xavier sat back on the chair. He held his head in his hand, he hoped too much of the alcohol will help, but the whole incident with Stacy only made him feel soberer.
'Now you believe that she wasn't here with the purest intentions?' Zion smirked.
'This is exactly what I didn't need right now,' Xavier sighed as he stood up and threw himself on the bed. He had a lot of work to do and he needed to sleep properly before he got back to the things he needed to do.
