"They have a witch in their wing"

The morning after Scott had tried to force himself on Selena, Xavier had found himself taking strong and confident strides towards the prison where Scott was kept. He had showered in the morning as soon as he woke up and dressed in a simple t-shirt and cargo fits.

Xavier's aura that morning screamed anger and dominance, and the news of what had happened the previous night spread like a wildfire. As a result, when the wolves saw their alpha walking out of the packhouse like he was on a mission, nobody dared to stop him.

Xavier took off from the packhouse and walked straight towards the prison. There were two buildings there. One of them, the prison, was for minor crimes, just to keep the rogues that had crossed into it or if someone from the pack had done something minor.

The other building, the one called the dungeon, was for major stuff - murderers, traitors... that sort. That building almost always remained empty because these prisoners were eventually sent to the prison led by the werewolf council.

Every pack had these two buildings, no alpha wanted to risk a teenager getting a minor punishment to be kept with a murderer or worse. Xavier walked with a straight face, giving nothing away, yet people who had known Xavier well knew that the alpha was fuming.

When he reached the door to the dungeon, the warrior standing guard at it opened the door for their alpha. However, as soon as Xavier stepped inside, he saw Ryan walking out of the far away room.

Xavier didn't stop his feet until he was right in front of his beta. He stayed silent but Ryan knew what his alpha was asking for.

"He is alive. I thought you'd want to talk to..."

Xavier didn't let him finish his sentence, he nodded his head and side-stepped Ryan to enter the room Scott was kept in.

Scott was kneeling on the floor with his head hanging low, his hands were cuffed to the chains hanging from the ceiling.

"There is no law in our pack about what happens to rapists," Xavier said calmly, "You know why?"

Scott remained silent. Xavier wasn't lashing out. This scared him.

"Because no one in our pack has ever tried to rape someone, well, at least till now. As the alpha of this pack, that gives me the liberty to punish you with whatever I see fit."

Scott gulped as Xavier took off his shirt. He had had enough of his clothes getting torn all the time because of random shifts, he didn't need to ruin more with blood.

"Our pack is one of the youngest packs. Laws here were built as we grew, and in the past six hundred years, no one ever dared to do something like this."

"I..."

"You tried to take advantage of a wolf in heat."

Xavier stood right in front of him. Ryan stood by the door, his face harsh, he didn't move at all. There was no stopping his alpha this time, not that he would have any way to do so in this case.

"She-she called me."

In spite of the tremble in his voice, Xavier didn't believe a single word and Ryan scoffed.

"You are really gonna stick with that excuse after what you told me?" The beta asked now taking a step forward.

"What did you tell him, Scott?" Xavier questioned, his eyes still on Scott. Right at this moment, Scott felt like a prey. His heart still hadn't accepted it, but his brain knew that he was not getting out of this alive. Either he would be sent to the Council Prison, or his alpha would kill him.

Ryan looked at Scott urging him to speak, but Scott's eyes were stuck to his alpha's clenched fists. That was the only sign of how angry Xavier was. Scott could see the veins visible in his hands.

When Ryan saw no sign of speaking up in Scott, he walked up to the wolf and stood behind him and pulled his head back by his hair roughly. Scott gasped at the sudden searing pain on his scalp and his eyes watered.

"Answer the alpha when he's asking you a question."

Scott breathed unevenly. His neck, his throat, everything hurt.

"I... It was Stacy. She just asked me to do it. A-and she also told me to say that Selena called me to go there."

"And you obeyed her like a little pup?" Xavier asked through his gritted teeth, "You didn't think to use your brain? Why follow her blindly?"

"She promised to put in a good word for me to you," Scott said shamefully.

"Take off the cuffs, Ryan."

Ryan took them off and pulled Scott to his feet. But the wolf was down on the floor almost instantly as Xavier's fist landed on his jaw. Scott remained on the floor, he knew his kind, standing up was almost equal to challenging the alpha.

Xavier held Scott up by his hair.

"You lack in making even the most basic judgment calls."

"Alpha," Xavier stopped but didn't look away from Scott. The beta knew he had Xavier's attention, and continued speaking, "Scott confessed to knowing Sean being a traitor. He knew it all along and he helped him. Scott had been working with the hunters too."

Xavier's eyes darkened even more, the only word he uttered through gritted teeth was, "Why?"

"They promised me a-a higher rank."

"They don't plan to kill us," Xavier stated.

Scott shook his head, "They want to take over the pack."

"Why?"

Scott shook his head.

Xavier threw Scott back in disgust, "Get in your stance, Scott. You think you should have a higher rank... show me why then."

Scott looked horrified. He knew how it would end.

Ryan pushed him making him stand in front of Xavier again. Scott stared at his alpha, his mind was struggling to come up with any positive outcomes but it was failing, making the wolf panic.

"Fight!"

Scott threw a sloppy first punch as soon as the words left Xavier's mouth, more out of fear than to fight. Xavier dodged it and kicked his leg off from below him, "Pathetic," he muttered.

The fight didn't last long. It wasn't a match even when Scott was in his best shape, let alone when he's starved, thirsty, beaten and scared to death.

It lasted ten minutes, and that too because Xavier took his time taunting him. The alpha took out all of his anger in the wolf, the anger of the hunters, of the betrayal, of not being able to hold his mate in his hands, all of it.

When Scott lay dead on the floor, Xavier was not even out of breath.

"I will ask some warriors to take care of his body," Ryan said, looking at the dead wolf

"At least his parents didn't have to know that their son was one of the worst of our kind."

"They were good people," Ryan said and Xavier nodded.

Xavier took his shirt and walked out of the room, Ryan following close behind him. When they stood outside the gate of the dungeon, Ryan asked the two warriors to take care of the body.

"What do you want us to do with him?" one of them asked.

"Throw his body somewhere far away from our land. He was a coward and a traitor and a horrible wolf. There's no place for him here, dead or alive."

The wolves nodded to their alpha's words and went it. The two of them stayed quiet until the warriors came out with Scott's body. They walked off into the distance but the leaders waited there.

"Assign two trackers and four warriors to always keep an on Stacy. Give them shifts, Two warriors and a tracker should always have an eye on her."

Ryan nodded. Xavier was going to walk away, his shirt still in his hand but Ryan held him back by his shoulder.

"Are you okay, Xavier?"

Xavier sighed, "None of these happened before I became the leader."

"Because you made us the strongest pack," Ryan frowned, "None of the alphas before you took us this far Xavier."

Xavier nodded, "I am ready for everything, Ryan, all kinds of challenges, I just cannot come to terms with whatever's happening with Selena." Ryan was about to speak again, but Xavier spoke before him, "I need to contact the Blood Moon pack." Xavier walked off.

Ryan sighed as he looked at his best friend, wondering how long he will be able to take it.

The two of the leaders were very much engrossed in their conversation, and they missed the wolf hiding in the woods a few feet away from them.

Stacy had heard everything Xavier said outside. It didn't take much for her to realize that Scott must have said something about her as well. She was gonna have wolves keep an eye on her now. She cursed mentally, this wasn't good.

She turned around and tiptoed until she was out of hearing range and then ran as fast as she could. She crossed the territory and ran for almost three hours.

She ran until she was in the next town over, where there was no chance of any of her own pack members to see her, a human town.

She reached the huge building at the far end of the town and when she found the door unlocked she entered the house.

A man and woman were sitting on the couch watching a movie. The guy turned over to look at her.

"I thought I told you not to come here."

Stacy felt a stab in her heart but she didn't dare mention it, "Xavier is on to me."

This caught their attention, both of them turned to face the wolf in their house.

"How?" The man asked and stood in front of her, "Did he hurt you?"

Stacy's heart melted as she shook her head, her whole attention was on the man so she didn't see the women scowling at her.

"Scott is dead."

The woman scoffed, "I knew he wouldn't last."

"Naomi, just stop for a second." The man's voice was sharp when he spoke to the girl, nothing like how he spoke to Stacy, he turned to look at the latter, "Tell us what happened."

And Stacy did, she narrated everything she knew to them like a good reporter.

"Jared, we need to let Leon know," Naomi said.

Jared nodded, "They won't be happy."

"Leon will be ecstatic. He never wanted Scott's hands on her," Naomi spoke and Jared scoffed.

"It's too soon. Plus if he doubts you now," Jared said to Stacy, "You can't come here that much, at least not with the warriors spying on you all the time."

"No, please! These are what gets me going," Stacy begs, "I hate it there Jared, you promised me we will rule that pack together. How much longer will it take?"

"We will, Stacy. But for it to work, we have to wait for Max and Leon. There's no other way."

"I need that witch of yours to give me a stronger potion to hide my scent. I cannot live with someone studying my every step." Stacy sighed.

"If your alpha notices you have no scent, you will be in more trouble," Naomi spoke this time.

"He won't know."

Jared sighed and nodded at Naomi with his head. Naomi rolled her eyes and went to the room inside and brought back a few tiny bottles of a green fluid.

"Just take it two at a time, Your scent will be hidden for longer."

Stacy took the bottle with a nod and looked at Jared.

"I'll miss you. Please talk to Max and Leon." Stacy kissed Jared and the man too kissed her back as he cradled the back of her head.

"Meet me in this town once every week," Jared said when he pulled back from the kiss.

"I wouldn't have it any other way."

With one last kiss, Stacy left and Jared and Naomi looked at each other in a way which stated that they needed to talk to Max.

Stacy ran back to the pack and took a different, longer route this time.

When she entered the packhouse, Ryan and Ileana were sitting on the couch talking. Ryan saw Stacy and frowned, "Where have you been?"

"I just went to the town to hang out a bit."

Ryan just nodded and let her go. He looked at the three wolves standing near the stairs whispering among themselves, and from the sign from their beta, they too subtly followed the direction Stacy went.

Ryan frowned suddenly feeling strange, like something was missing, but he couldn't point it out.

~ Present Time ~

The meeting where Stacy apologized to Selena along with many others didn't last long.

Xavier had soon found himself back in his office, preparing for his visit to the Blood Moon Pack, the one which he had been putting off for weeks, when Ryan rushed in.

The alpha looked at his best friend slightly worried but Ryan stood in front of his table his eyes wide open.

"I know." Ryan breathed

"Know what?" Xavier frowned.

"I know how every time Stacy went out somewhere the warriors missed it." Xavier raised an eyebrow and Ryan continued, "All of them said that her scent was still in the room and they didn't feel her leave."

"What are you saying, Ryan?" Xavier stood up.

"Hiding her scent."

Xavier's eyes widened, "Are you sure?"

Ryan nodded, "The day you killed Scott, me and Ileana were in the lobby of the ground floor when Stacy came back late. I felt like something was off but I couldn't pinpoint it. She had no scent."

"Ryan if that's true, it would mean that..."

"They have a witch in their wing."

Both of them looked at the door as Connor stepped in, looking equally worried this time.

"Witches have never worked with hunters." Ryan spoke.

"Everything has a first time. But if she has something hiding her scent completely, it has to be a witch's potion," Xavier added, "That would also explain why I never found any evidence in favour of Selena, they must have her doing other spells to hide their tracks and sweeping evidence too."

Connor nodded, this wasn't good. The involvement of the witches meant more complications.

"Go to sleep guys, it's late," Xavier sighed, "I need to make a call."

"You're calling your pack witch?" Connor asked.

Xavier nodded and Connor too found himself nodding his head.
