"It's Alpha to you"

"Xavier, before you take any decisions based on anger, please tell me what is going on," Selena said. Her eyes were begging Xavier to explain the situation to her.

Xavier was still standing right in front of her. He stared into her eyes as if he would be able to see into her soul. The more he stared into it, the more his resolve was weakening... she's his mate, his other half, literally chosen by the goddess for her, she won't betray him, she can't. But then again, mates have betrayed their respective others before. How much does he know her? It's only been three months since she joined his pack. Her whole pack is dead and she is the only one alive, can he really take the risk of putting his whole pack in danger and trust her blindly?

His face hardened again. He took a deep breath and took a step back, walking around the table he sat on his chair. Resting his elbows on the table, he interlocked his fingers and his chin rested on top of it. His face showed indifference but that was only him refusing to give in to the tremendous anger and confusion he was feeling.

"As a demoted omega, you should address all of the top rank holders by their title. Please refer to me as Alpha and the others respectively by their titles." Xavier said, his voice strong and all the while Ryan observed Selena very carefully. Ryan was proud of the fact that he was an amazing judge of character, but this time, he couldn't understand... was it because Selena is an alpha herself? He didn't know.

"I don't understand," Selena whispered, confused, "Xavier..."

"Ryan, please show Miss Wilson the video we received today," Xavier says coolly.

Selena flinched internally when Xavier addressed her as Miss Wilson. Her wolf rose up at this point. Her human was hurting, and even though her mate is literally half of her soul, her human is also a part of her. Izzy gave Selena the power to stay strong mentally. When the person closest to you, starts behaving like a stranger, it hurts more than a stab wound.

She turned to look at Ryan. He walked to the television kept on the other side of the room and clicked a button. A video started on the screen.

The video started with Max and Leon standing facing each other. The mere sight of them had Selena's blood run cold. Yes, she had worked hard, along with Xavier to get her self-confidence back up. But seeing her tormentors, who had preyed on her for two years, only after a mere three months of getting away from them... she didn't think she'd have to see them so soon again.

Xavier couldn't see her expression, but he did see her putting her hand on the table for support. He could also hear her rapid breathing sounds as well as her heartbeat. Selena on the other hand kept blinking. These men don't have any control over her now. She refused to cry over the past and after what she just heard from Xavier, she refused to cry in front of him.

On the screen, the two men start talking.

"She's doing a great job," Max said.

Leon looked around the area and whoever was holding the camera shifted to hide behind the bushes. The camera once again focused on them just as Selena heard Leon's voice, "I know. If this pace remains constant, it wouldn't be long before we can attack the pack. We would know all their secrets too. This one is too cunning. No one suspects her, hell, they don't even know the part she played in ruining her own pack!"

Selena was trembling. The only pack ruined in the past ten years was hers... but they couldn't have been talking about her right? What the hell was going on?

"I hope when this all is over I will have her all to myself. She promised to be with me," Leon continued dreamily and Max shook his head with a smile.

"I can't believe she kissed you even after meeting her mate. God he must be a true monster to have his own mate hate him."

"He is known as the most vicious, did you expect him to change his ways just for his mate?" Leon rolled his eyes and Max hit the back of his head.

"Don't roll your eyes at me, kid. Vicious or not, he definitely is a loser, cannot even get his own mate to love him," Max scoffed.

"Let's just hope that he doesn't kill her though. His temper is..."

"Don't' worry, bro. Xavier loves her too much to kill her. And what did I tell you before? Selena's too smart to make a mistake."

The video stopped there. Selena was still staring at the screen

Xavier cleared his throat and Selena turned to look at him. He pointed towards a note left on the table. The paper looked like it had been folded up. She picked the paper up and looked at the words on it.

Selena froze. She was confused, yes, but that wasn't the reason that she stilled. No. The reason is that she realised that her tormentors had planned this. It wasn't just that though, Selena was a victim. Her pack was destroyed by these and she had been taken captive. So if they were just talking among themselves, why will they say all that nonsense about her? So that only means one thing – It wasn't a coincidence that they were recorded, they wanted to be recorded, maybe they recorded it themselves even. She needed to know how Xavier got the video and the note.

Apart from this, another thought kept bothering her. Xavier and Ryan seem to believe that. Did they really think that she had played a part in the fall of her own pack?

"You believe this?" She asked both Xavier and Ryan.

"Do I have a reason to not trust this?" Xavier countered. "Give me one good reason... why shouldn't I?"

"I am your mate, you know I wouldn't do this!" she raised her voice too now.

"You are my mate, yes. But I do not know honestly what you are capable of."

Ryan closed his eyes tightly, he hated that his Alpha and Luna were stuck in this position. He considered them to be the perfect couple even though he hadn't known her for long, he trusted her too. But with all this proof against her, he couldn't find it in himself to take the risk of taking a leap of faith. The stakes were high, he couldn't ask his alpha to risk their whole pack.

"Mates have conspired against their other halves before, even when they have known each other from birth. I know you for barely three months. How can I blindly trust you?"

Selena remained quiet. She knew that her situation was not one to back her up. She was stuck in the storm now and she had to endure it all to make it through, there was no exit from this.

Xavier continued when Selena still didn't respond, "She told me, she warned me against you, and I didn't listen to her. I gave you a place in my pack, I gave you respect, I gave you family. And what do you do? You bring danger to my pack. You work with freaking hunters!"

Selena took a step back as the last part came out as a scream. His eyes were filled with anger, betrayal and another thing she never expected to face from Xavier, hatred. He didn't look like a hurt mate, he just looked like a furious alpha.

"I don't know what this is. I haven't seen them for three months now and neither do I want to. Please, you have to believe me," she almost begged. Her wolf was angry now. Mate or not, she was an alpha too and no one disrespected her. But Selena put in all her power and didn't let her get control. She couldn't let her wolf be angry and make things worse. She had to talk to Xavier.

"If it's not true then why would they say that?! And it's not like they knew that Stacy was recording it!" He stood up from the chair.

Selena gasped silently, "Stacy gave it to you?"

"Not again, Selena!" he groaned and sat down again.

"You are believing her when you know she hates me, but you won't trust me?" She asked.

"Stacy is one of my closest friends. I know she won't work with the hunters."

"Xavier, I don't know how Stacy got this. But I know what I am doing," Selena waited for a second, all the while as Xavier looked at her. She hoped he'll see that she's being honest, "What you said is true. You did give me everything, friends, family, a home, a pack, why will I risk that? I..."

"...played me. You played me with your lover. I don't know what you three plan to do with my pack but I will find out, Selena. And I promise you I will make you all pay." There was a rage in his eyes. Selena was still looking him in the eye but any other wolf would have cowered under that gaze.

The intensity of how much the situation was out of her control was scaring the hell out of her. She kept the note down.

"Xavier, you have to believe me," she was almost begging now. She couldn't stop the tears anymore. Through her blurred vision, she still could see that there was no expression on his face, "I'll do anything to prove this. I am not working with them. I hate them! You know I hate them!"

"I don't think you have anything to make me believe anymore," Xavier whispered. His voice wasn't so strong anymore. His heart was breaking into a thousand pieces to do this to his own mate.

"Please don't make me leave," she cried.

Izzy was furious at her mate. She knows what she went through and she's very protective over her human. So now seeing her own mate treat them like this, is breaking her heart and lighting a fire inside her at the same time. She's an alpha herself so the disrespect is not something she can tolerate easily. She wanted to fight back against Xavier. But Selena held her back, she didn't want things to get worse.

Xavier wanted to hold her face. He wanted to hold her and tell her that he loves her. He desperately wanted all of this to be a bad dream. Why did he have to choose between his pack and his mate? Most of the alphas don't have to go through this, why did he have to be one of the few? For the first time in his life, he wished he wasn't an alpha.

"Ryan, show her to her new room. Tell her all she has to do." Xavier turned around. The window behind his chair allowed him to look over the woods. Selena couldn't see his face as Ryan came and stood behind her. He didn't pull her to go with him, for him, Selena was still his Luna. Xavier felt them both in the room still, "Go, Miss Wilson. I will not ask again."

Selena didn't say anything. What could she say? He had already made her decision. She had nowhere to go and she refused to give up on her mate so soon. As she was an alpha herself, she didn't really have to listen to him. But currently, she was his pack member, she didn't want to show him that she didn't respect him as an alpha. She needed to show him that she cared. So she decided to stay and listen to him, she had to prove to him that she wasn't going behind his back anyway. Every couple goes through problems, this is theirs and she won't give up without a fight.

"You can go on a run. From tomorrow, you will be very busy so you might not get time to. Talk to your wolf, make her understand she isn't an alpha anymore, nor is she a warrior here. She doesn't have the power or authority to behave higher than others. Ryan will tell you the rules. Leave."

"Thank you, Xavier." She mumbled. Izzy was growling in her mind but she held her back.

"It's Alpha to you from now on. You are not allowed to call an alpha by his name." He said appearing calm.

She couldn't understand how he was so calm when she was breaking apart.

She didn't answer. Selena just nodded and walked out of the door.

Xavier turned around as soon as the door closed and sat back on the chair. He sighed and held his head in his hands. Ryan sat on the chair opposite Xavier. He stayed quiet and just kept staring at his alpha. He could only imagine what he was going through.

"I don't want to hear anything," Xavier growled. He was hurt, and the fact that his beta might tell him what he did was wrong made him furious.

"Xavier, I won't tell you how to do things. You are my alpha, I trust your decisions. But along with your beta, I am also your best friend. If you ever need to talk, You know I will always be here."

Saying this, Ryan left the room leaving Xavier by himself.

The alpha closed his eyes as a single tear rolled down his cheeks. He had never felt so helpless in his life.

He knew Stacy hated Selena, but he also trusted her enough to know that she wouldn't go to the extent of working with hunters.

'You trust her but you don't trust your mate?' Zion growled in his mind. Xavier didn't respond. He was still too angry.
