"I just... I fucked up"
Selena had been all smiles ever since her conversation with the alpha. She never thought she'd be meeting her mate so soon after leaving her captors. But she was damn proud that Xavier didn't seem like one to hurry her to mate with him, and she couldn't be any happier about that.
It was dinner time when of the same day and Selena had finally decided to go to the dining room to eat. Till now, she didn't feel like going out, she was not ready for those stares that she was about to get yet.
Currently, she was very happy. She felt like she was ready to get out of her room and face the people. While she standing in front of the mirror, she saw one of the faint bruises on her arm that was still there.
'You look good, girl!' Izzy said smirking a bit, making her human blush. Izzy let out a chuckle, she found it hilarious that the alpha female who has killed so many rouges can also blush so hard on the mention of her mate.
Suddenly, Selena's eyes widened. She just realized that the main reason why she went to talk to the alpha was still unanswered, she still needed to talk to Xavier about training.
After a few more minutes of self-assurance, Selena walked down the stairs and into the kitchen and the dining room which was also on the ground floor.
Her eyes immediately found her mate, sitting on a table and eating. He also immediately found her in the room. His lips quirked up in an almost smile when he stopped and looked back at his food, someone beside him was animatedly telling him something.
'Tell me again why you guys decided to keep it a secret?' Izzy asked sarcastically. She strongly believed that since they were both alphas, they could do whatever they want as long as it doesn't affect the pack badly.
Selena sighed, even though she wanted to defend their actions, she couldn't completely deny that she wasn't happy with this.
She wanted to spend time with her mate without worrying about who sees them.
Sighing, Selena went to the counters to take her food. She sat on a table away from Xavier's but she could also get a clear view of his table. She chose to look around and not stare at Xavier.
She found Ryan and Ileana, they were just standing by the counter, their plates in their hands, looking around. Of course, they were confused about whether to sit by their alpha or join this friend for once.
Ileana whispered something to Ryan and walked towards Selena with a smile, which in turn made her smile too. Ryan was about to walk to Xavier's table, but he paused. Selena didn't notice but Xavier connected with Ryan over their mind link and told him to stay with her. Xavier couldn't be there with her. But he wanted her to be with someone he could trust. Who better than his sister and his best friend?
Ryan sat down beside Ileana with a smirk as he looked at Selena. Selena was confused for a while, but then again, isn't Ryan close to Xavier as his beta? And Hell Ileana is his sister! She mentally face-palmed as realisation hit her. Her eyes widened as she looked at them both, "You both knew!"
Ileana chuckled and Ryan's smirk widened, "So how did the conversation go, Luna?" Ryan asked.
Selena immediately looked around, glad to have chosen a seat that was away from the others. She signalled them both to keep it low before she told them their whole conversation. Selena needed someone to rely on, and Ryan had been her best friend here till now. She had no reason to hide.
The way both of them frowned, Selena could very well understand that they didn't agree to it.
Ryan was extremely confused, and so was Ileana.
"Selena," Ryan began, "Your wolves... they are alphas, both of them, we all know they are more possessive, more protective about their mates. You guys are doing this, and knowing both of you, you must have a reason, but think about it. If your wolves feel threatened or even tempted, they won't hold back."
"I am just wondering why he would do that..." Ileana muttered. She was a bit oblivious to the things happening. She had no idea about your past and you didn't tell any of them the details of it. You weren't sure if you ever will.
"You guys are restraining a normal process," he paused, as if waiting for her to understand the gravity of the situation, "the pressure will rise, faster in case of alphas, and when it bursts, it won't be pretty."
His words had her thinking. He was right, the alpha wolves were stronger than the others, and it won't be easy. Some of the wolves are power-hungry, and in case a line is crossed, the pent up emotions will come up and it won't be pretty.
"Oh, boy..." Ryan muttered. Selena looked up at him and beside him, Ileana's eyes also widened with shock. Selena followed their line of sight and her eyes landed on her mate, who had another she-wolf, a redhead to be more precise, on his lap.
A deep growl sounded in her mind and she flinched when she realised it She was whispering something into his ear while he looked completely uninterested. Selena's eyes followed every little move she made as her wolf furiously stared at them.
When she looked like she had finished whispering, Xavier looked up and looked straight at Selena. They both stared at each other intently until Ryan touched her palm. She looked at Ryan, her face was blank and the stare was extremely intense.
Ryan blinked once on seeing her expression, that was one scary look from a she-wolf, and as the beta of the strongest pack right then, not even many alpha's stares made him feel such fear.
"This is what I was talking about," he said, "Your wolves won't see reason in such cases. That's Stacy, one of Xavier's oldest friends. Even though Xavier doesn't like her like that, she keeps trying. All she wants is power and position. Xavier thinks it's just a phase and she will be over it once she meets her mate. She wasn't like this, something in her changed though in the past few years."
Ryan was still saying something when Selena looked back at Xavier. She was taken aback when she realised that her mate was glaring at her. But it was only for a second, his whole expression changed as he smirked and turned to Stacy.
Xavier placed his hand on her upper back and whispered something back to her. His lips were almost touching her cheeks. The emotions of anger were so strong in her right now, that the couple on her table could also feel it
Ileana looked interested for the lack of a better word. She also had alpha blood so Selena's anger didn't scare her as much as it scared Ryan, but it still could make her shiver. Ileana, at that point, saw past her timid exterior. She realised how strong this she-wolf actually was and she smirked suddenly, she knew then Selena was perfect for her brother.
Ryan tried once again to calm her down by squeezing her hand softly, but this time, she growled louder. Ryan immediately pulled his hand back. He was scared, but he could also feel his respect for Selena rising.
Selena didn't notice the effect her growl had on the others around her. her complete focus was on her mate. He was still looking at that Stacy.
The next move came all of a sudden when Stacy suddenly held Xavier by his cheeks and kissed him straight on the lips.
Selena didn't comprehend when she stood up abruptly. The sound of her chair being scraped on the floor had the attention of all the wolves in the room. Xavier too, instantly turned to look at her, and what he saw broke his heart.
He didn't see an angry mate. What he saw was hurt. He was instantly hit by regret. Her face also showed the guilt he felt but he didn't say anything. He subtly pushed Stacy off, who now stood beside him observing the scene with interest. It didn't take her long to realise the connection. She smirked right at Selena who didn't say anything. Selena's complete focus was on making sure that she doesn't seem weak in front of all these wolves. She was not going to show any weakness.
Without saying anything, Selena walked out of the room. She headed straight to her room and locked herself in.
Xavier hadn't even thought about how Selena would react. He didn't plan on touching Stacy. When he had first looked up, he wanted to tell her to back off and to tell her about Selena. But then he caught the eyes of the said mate, with his best friend holding her hand.
Xavier had completely forgotten the fact that he had told Ryan to stay with her. All reason left his mind. Jealousy hit him hard when he saw Ryan with her, where he was supposed to be. That was when he placed his hand on Stacy's back.
Xavier regretted not listening to his wolf when his wolf had told him that their "stupid agreement" would be a complete fail.
"Everyone, out!" Ryan shouted, making Xavier come out of his reverie. Some wolves who were still eating took their plates while some just left the plates there. They would be back later to wash it.
"What the fuck, Xavier?" Ryan said. He was mad too. As a beta, he was extremely protective towards his Luna. The fact that he considered Selena one of his closest friends only made him even more protective.
Xavier looked up at Ryan and his anger increased. The human knew that Ryan was not at fault here, but the wolf didn't care. To him, this was the man who touched his mate. The wolf's anger was fogging his mind.
"What?" he seethed looking at his beta.
"You're jealous." Ileana spoke; it wasn't a question, more like a statement.
Xavier remained quiet as Ryan's eyes widened. He looked at his mate first, who looked very amused, and then at his alpha. "You asked me to be with her!" He exclaimed. Ryan had a pretty good idea of a jealous alpha and he definitely didn't want to face the wrath of one.
"I know, okay?!" he also shouted back, "I just... I fucked up. My wolf went mad seeing her with you. I wanted to push her away, "But his anger clouded my mind and..." he sighed with his head down, "I know it wasn't right of me. I will talk to her."
"As soon as possible," Ileana said. She patted her brother's back and left the room.
Then Ryan stepped forward, "You are my best friend, almost my brother. We have grown up together. You know I won't do anything like that." When Xavier looked at his beta, he realised how hurt the guy looked.
He placed his hand on Ryan's shoulder before speaking, "I know, Ryan. I trust you." Ryan smiled, making the alpha smile too.
"Do talk to her. I might be closer to her right now, but I can never be as close to her as you. She's..." Ryan smiled lovingly remembering some of the moments he shared with her, "She will be an amazing Luna. Make her feel like it."
After Ryan left, Xavier too, went back to his room. On his way, he crossed Selena's room but his heart broke when he heard her sniff. His wolf growls in his mind, angry with his human. Xavier took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
