Chapter 16

Luna

Rejected with the Alphas Baby

When Camden didn't call this morning I couldn't help but feel a knot form in my stomach. I thought something might be wrong...but I guess not. Not that I have any hard feelings. I mean he did have a life before I came back here, so why should it matter?

Okay so maybe I feel a tiny bit uncomfortable. Maybe even a little jealous... but that's just my wolf getting all emotional. Right?

What's there to get jealous of though?  I'm the one with his kid. His heir. What could top that?  Wait.. did I just think that? What the hell is wrong with me!

Camden-- despite being an asshole-- deserves to be happy, just like anyone else. This isn't a competition he can be with whomever he wants, kid or no kid. Just as long as they stay away from mine and he isn't whoring around in front of Caleb I'm good.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Caleb screamed my name. My motherly instincts kicked in immediately, and I started scanning the area for any signs of danger. When I saw there wasn't anything threatening, I focused my attention on the screeching boy.

"Mommy, look! Look!" he squealed, running toward the ice cream counter, his eyes wide with excitement as he gazed at all the different flavors. "I want that one, and that one, and that one! Eww, that one looks gross... I want it too, please, Mommy!" He begged, bouncing up and down, causing a few people in the shop to laugh—including Camden and myself.

"Sure, sweetie. You can have a small portion of each, or a big portion of just one. So, try to decide," I said with a grin.

"Mmhmm, small of each! I wanna taste them all, pwease!" Caleb's enthusiasm was contagious.

"Sure, buddy," Camden said, chuckling, as he was dragged by Caleb to the stands. I just shook my head as I reached for a cup of cookies and cream. The medium-sized cups were stacked way too high, and I had to stretch to grab one. Just as I reached up, a cup magically appeared in front of my face. Startled, I jumped back, accidentally bumping into the person behind me.

"Oh my, I'm so sorry!" I quickly apologized, turning to see who I had collided with.

It was a girl I'd never seen before. She was still holding the cup toward me, looking at me with a kind smile.

"Uh, thank you... uh?" I said, unsure of what to say.

"Beatrice," she replied, still holding the cup.

""Well, thank you for the cup, Beatrice." I was about to walk away when she grabbed my hand.

"Are you new around here? 'Cause I've never seen you before." What is with this girl? Politely, I pulled my hand out of her grasp and took a casual step back.

"No, I'm not new around here," I replied, trying to keep things cordial.

She raised an eyebrow, but before she could respond, I was cut off by Caleb's loud shout.

"MOMMY, LOOK!" he yelled.

I turned around and saw him by the sweets bar, holding up a Rice Krispies treat. "No, no more sweets. Put the Rice Krispies down and grab some sprinkles. That's it for today," I said firmly.

"Yes, Mommy." Caleb pouted but handed the Rice Krispies back to Camden, who placed it on the shelf and grabbed him some sprinkles instead.

"Oh, oh, oh, it's you! You're the girl everyone's talking about!" Beatrice said suddenly, her tone turning a little too giddy. My stomach dropped.

"People are talking about me?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.

"Oh, yeah, all the time. The Alpha's mate has returned, and with her, she's brought his heir. It's like a fairy tale in the making," she continued, swooning a little. What? A fairy tale?

"I'm not his mate anymore, and this isn't a fairy tale," I said sharply. "So, tell whoever is saying that to keep it to themselves. Got it?"

"Yeah, yeah," she waved it off, barely listening. "So, how's it like being Luna and mated to Camden?" she asked, now practically bouncing in her seat.

Okay, this girl was seriously freaking me out.

"Cam! Camden!" I called out, feeling the urge to get away from Beatrice.

"Yes, Ave?" he asked, peeking his head from behind the cashier.

"Deal with her, I'm going to get ice cream," I said, slightly overwhelmed by Beatrice's overenthusiastic behavior.

"Oh, hey Beatrice," Camden added casually. "Wait, Ave, I already got you your ice cream—cookies and cream, right?" he asked with a grin. I nodded, surprised he even remembered. "

""Aww," Beatrice said, practically gushing. "Why don't you get us a booth, Ave, and join us? We should catch up!" She squealed and grabbed my hand, pulling me toward an empty booth and practically shoving me into it before sitting opposite me, still grinning like a Cheshire cat.

"You're weird," I said bluntly, but she just laughed it off, unfazed.

Before I could ask her what she wanted with me, Camden and Caleb returned, and Caleb immediately chimed in.

"Beatrice, where did you get this caramel crunch? It's delicious!" Caleb asked, clearly enjoying his new treat.

"I ordered it from this company three towns away," Beatrice said proudly.

"Nice," Camden said, nodding in approval.

"Am I missing something here?" I asked, looking between the two of them.

"Beatrice owns the ice cream shop," Camden explained with a smile.

"Of course," I muttered under my breath. It made sense now—'weird' girl, 'weird' shop. "How nice. I guess I see where the creativity of the place came from."

"Aww, thank you, Avery!" Beatrice said, her voice high-pitched.

"Don't mention it weirdo"

"Avery! Camden scolded, giving me a stern look. "Apologize, you can't go around calling people weird" Seriously does he think that's going to work? " And in front of Caleb what if he went and called someone weird"

OK I know he's right but is it wrong that it pisses me off when he thinks he can tell me what to do.

Maybe in time if I learn to forgive and forget Camden, I'll be comfortable with him again. Yeah right.  Like I'm just going to forgive and forget. Who am, I kidding? Sucking it up now for the time being since I know I was in the wrong I apologized. Some things can't just be swept away, not that easily.

For now, though, I sucked it up, acknowledging I was in the wrong, and gave the apology.

"I'm sorry you're a weirdo Beatrice"

"AVE!"

"Okay okay I'm sorry I called you weird Beatrice, please forgive me" One would expect her to be sad but, no the weirdo was smiling at me. Hey, no one said I couldn't call her that in my mind. "Its okay I don't mind" Maybe she's not so bad.

"Luna" Nope she's awful.

I pretended I didn't hear her and focussed my attention on my ice-cream faced boy, I saw Camden tensed a bit, he was staring at me waiting for a reaction but I ignored him too. When he saw I wasn't going to react I felt his gaze shift, looking up I saw him glaring at weirdo too.

Mhmm not so keen on being nice now, huh Cam?

"Mommy taste this" Chakar said holding up a blob of melting ice-cream. The colors were blending together creating a nasty look. I wanted to say no but the happy look on his face had me backtracking. "Sure sweetie" I opened my mouth and he shoved the dripping spoon in.

"Mhmm yummy" Not even.

"Try tasting mommies own" I fed it to him and his reaction was similar to mine only his was real. After he got a taste he insisted on feeding each other, so while he got delicious ice-cream I was gobbling his ice-cream creation.

The others were laughing at my expense especially when Caleb missed my mouth and got ice-cream all over my face, but I swear hearing the sounds of his laughter and seeing the smile on his face was worth all the stickiness.
