Bite Me
Reckless
Domino-
The sound of two sets of footsteps brought Domino out of his doze. He was sitting against the opposite wall from Jana's bed and lifted his head to watch for the guard and his hostile roommate. They appeared a few seconds later, along with Tera. Just seeing the dog made a smile want to tug at his lips, but he kept it back as Tommy got the cell unlocked.
"Go grab your spare change of clothes, and Domino, you might as well come, too. We're going to the showers and I'm sure Jana would appreciate some help scrubbing Tera."
Normally he'd tell anyone asking him to do work for them to go to hell, but Domino was more than happy to get a chance to get out of his cell and interact with the dog. "Sure." He replied quickly as he got up and grabbed his own extra set of clothes.
When they both exited the cell, Domino in handcuffs, Tommy shut and locked it, then began leading them down to the showers in the gym. There were other, much larger ones they could have gone to, but Domino figured that Tommy knew it would take most of his attention just to keep Jana from snapping. They didn't need any extra possible triggers around.
Stepping into the weight room, Jana immediately turned toward the weightlifting area and took a seat on a bench. Tommy looked a bit frustrated at first, but Domino could tell that he wasn't going to do anything about it when the guard uncuffed his hands, then walked over and took the spotter position.
That twig is not going to be very reliable. Domino thought as he slowly approached. Noting the amount of weight Jana was adding to the bar, Domino pursed his lips, then nudged Tommy out of the way. "You aren't strong enough." He stated at the same time Jana laid down on the bench and noticed him where Tommy should have been.
"Get the hell away from me." Jana growled as he began lifting the weights. There was no way Tommy would be able to safely spot the guy. Domino hadn't been paying attention to the amount of weight when it got to a certain point so he wasn't quite sure on the number, but it had to be pretty close to two-hundred and eighty something. Again, Domino wanted to argue, but he had learned rather quickly that with Jana, there was never a winner. He would likely get hurt and Jana would get sent away to solitary again. So, biting back his instinctive response, Domino just shrugged and grasped the bar lightly as Jana started his reps.
"He's too small to spot you. If you drop it, I doubt he'll be able to do more than tilt the thing before it falls."
Granted, Jana didn't look like he could lift so much, as he was a pretty regular-sized guy. His muscles, however, were like plates of body armor. Domino had never seen such a well-defined body. His own was pretty fit and he definitely had a lot more weight to him than Jana, but he had no doubt that the guy would be able to match him if they were ever competing with the weights.
Damn. If he wasn't so insane I would be molesting him up and down right now. Domino thought sourly as he counted the reps in his head. Somewhere around thirty-two he felt the bar begin to shake and refocused his attention down at Jana. Not a second later, the bar dropped and jerked him forward. Automatically, Domino tried to pull the weight up so that it didn't land on Jana. He managed to hold it long enough for Jana to duck under and away, but then it slipped from his hands and actually dropped closer to the back of the bench, leaving it to thunk to the floor not a second after tipping off of the seat. Domino wasn't even able to process that it had landed on his toe until he saw Tommy scramble to push it off.
Sure, it hurt like hell, but the fact that he hadn't even caught the damned thing for more than a few seconds was not okay. He was stronger than that! And now my toes probably broken. Fucking great. He thought as he turned around and sat on the bench to remove his shoe. Sure enough, it was already turning blue.
"Damn. Well, let's get you to the infirmary." Tommy said as he noticed his damaged toe.
As much as Domino wanted to get it braced and some pane medicine in his system, he shook his head and stood up. "After we wash the dog. It doesn't hurt much." He lied, before heading into the locker room and shower area.
There was a small bathtub in the back and as he heard the other two following, he hurried over to it and got the water running. When it was warm enough, he stripped down to his boxers and carefully slid in, ignoring the odd stares he was getting from Tommy. Honestly, he wanted some kind of response from Jana besides violence or indifference, but he got the latter as the man lead Tera over to him.
The dog actually looked more worried than happy at that moment, Domino noticed. I hope Emmet had trained her to take baths well. I really don't need to have scratch or bite wounds treated on top of my toe. He thought right as Jana grabbed the hem of his pants and shoved them down.
Give a guy some warning! Domino yelled in his head as he felt himself do a lot more than twitch beneath the rising water. His fingers itched to touch but he forced them to ball at his sides as Jana leaned down and picked Tera up, then dropped her in the tub.
Thankful for the distraction, Domino grabbed the dog and held her still as Tommy walked over and handed Jana a bottle of shampoo. "I'll go out and get her some real dog shampoo later. For now, just use a small amount of that and get out the dirt." He said, to which Jana nodded.
To Domino's surprise, Jana was extremely gentle with Tera. It almost seemed like he was worried about breaking her. When the dog was all soaped-up, Tommy handed him a small plastic cup, allowing Domino to slowly rinse water over the dog as Jana moved his hands through her fur, trying to wash away the soap. They were just about done with the simple bath when Domino looked up and actually offered a small smile.
"You're pretty good at this."
That simple sentence was meant completely in good faith with no innuendo tied in, yet when Jana froze and his eyes began to grow distant, Domino knew that something was wrong. He would almost bet that the words were ricocheting in Jana's mind, replaying some other meaning or bringing back a memory. That had to be part of why the guy was so fucked up, as it normally didn't happen just growing up in a normal family. He'd heard some stories while with the general population, but they weren't enough to go on to be able to know what to say and what not to.
Before Domino could react he was shoved down and held underwater. Strong hands circled his neck in a grip that felt like an iron clamp. He knew that struggling would likely just set the guy off more, but fuck it. He couldn't just let himself be drowned! His arms flailed until they found Jana's and began to try and pull one away. Domino felt someone reach behind his head and then suction, telling him that the drain had been pulled. There hadn't been too much water in the bathtub to begin with, so he rerouted his attention to focusing on holding his breath.
He could hear shouts from above the water's surface after the spigot was turned off a second later, but couldn't quite make a full sentence out. Jana was screaming and Tommy was clearly trying to calm him down. The water slowly drained and finally gave Domino a chance to gulp in a much-needed breath of air a few seconds later. He couldn't quite get it all into his lungs due to Jana's grip on his neck, but it was enough to keep his head from getting anymore foggy. It also allowed him to blink his eyes, clearing them of the blurriness the water had added until he saw the full scene playing out above him. Jana had gotten into the bathtub and was kneeling on either side of him. It was a tight fit, and he felt half of the man's weight leaning in on his thighs. He was panting heavily, a crazed look in his eye that would rival any rabid animal.
Except... he's not crazy. At least, not right now. His outward appearance clearly showed rage and anger, but his eyes were shining with an emotion Domino was all too familiar with being an aggressive, uncaring dominant. He's fucking terrified.
It was a pretty big shock. Domino never expected to see such an emotion on the guy's face. He was a crazy asshole that snapped at anything, yet there he was, leaning over him with his eyes full of terror.
Jana jerked abruptly after a moment, drawing both their attention to his left arm, where Tera was biting. Damn. Thing's got a pair. Even though she's a she and likely fixed. Domino thought right before Tera bolted. Thankfully, the bite seemed to have distracted Jana enough. He reached over with his right hand and grabbed his left one, squeezing tightly. As Domino watched, sucking in breath quickly since he only had one hand around his throat with the other having moved, he saw lines of blood run down from where Jana was holding his other arm.
Narrowing his gaze, Domino slowly looked up. His eyes met Jana's, but the man was completely focused on his injured arm. In the back of his mind, Domino could hear Tommy still trying to get through to Jana, likely having forgotten to call on the radio for help, or possibly having dropped it. Either way, he was going to cause the problem to get worse if he didn't back off for a minute, because Domino had an idea, and the hint of the emotion in Jana's eyes hiding behind the fear was worth trying to reach. And for once, he knew just how to do it... hopefully he didn't fuck up, though.
"Tommy, back off. Go check on Tera and make sure she's okay." He said as he slowly began to sit up. With Jana's left hand still around his neck, pushing him down, he had to go extremely slowly. He didn't want to set Jana off again, so he took an agonizing two full minutes to turn slightly and slide up the left side of the tub. The action made Jana's left hand finally fall away, giving Domino a chance to relax slightly before he steeled himself and reached forward with his hands out, palms up. He moved them both under the place where Jana was squeezing his arm tightly and felt blood drip down onto his skin almost immediately. He then waited, listening.
At first, he couldn't hear much but near-silent mumbles. Then, he heard it. The hushed whispers that sounded almost like whimpers. It wasn't hard to figure out what had happened after catching enough of the repeating words. His father had done something, likely for a long time, that drove Jana to fear him. That fear grew until it broke him and he finally reacted one night. He drowned his father in a bathtub after he tried to do something. Domino thought, feeling his stomach twist and bile begin to rise in his throat.
His hands shakily lifted until they pressed gently against the one Jana still had gripping around Tera's bite. The action had the other man freezing. Domino could feel his muscles tense, just like a coiling snake, unsure if it needed to strike yet or if it could afford to try and continue avoiding conflict.
"I've got it, Jana." Domino said, being careful not to say you, as he didn't want to say anything Jana's father might have. He didn't want the rattlesnake to strike twice.
When Jana remained utterly still, Domino slowly began to brush the man's fingers away from the injury. To his surprise, Jana let him, though it was clear that he only allowed him to move his hand because he was so focused on an internal battle no one would ever hear but whispers of. When he felt warm blood beneath his fingers Domino slowly pressed down at a certain angle, then began to move his fingers in a circle motion. It would hurt, a lot, but that was the point. And as he stole slight glances at the man's dark eyes, he could tell that the pain was slowly bringing him back.
That's it. That's why he's got so many marks all over him. Domino thought, relieved that he'd finally managed to put one piece of Jana's puzzle together. He needs the pain to hold onto reality.
While he would normally love watching someone's face flush red from pain and the exertion of trying to control themselves, Domino didn't even let anything sexual pass his mind. Instead, he focused all of his attention on slowly increasing the pain. He dug slightly into the bites until Jana hissed, then began to move his fingers around the several holes as he pressed harder than previously.
"Come back, Jana. You scared that poor dog you don't like and you're still covered in grass stains and dirt. You don't want to get your bed dirty." Domino said, biting back a comment about sex at the end. It was fucking hard to filter his words and he found that he had to continuously bite his tongue during that whole sentence.
The crackling of a radio brought him out of his thoughts, making Domino glare over at Tommy as the man started calling in the incident. "Don't!" He snarled at him, making the guy nearly drop his radio.
"Don't report this right now. He needs time to calm down and dragging him off to a fucking shrink or shoving him in isolation isn't going to help. If you give a damn about him, just wait."
To his surprise, Tommy canceled the call, saying that he had it under control. That had Domino breathing easier. He looked back to Jana and saw that he was finally coming back around. Reluctantly, he released his arm and slowly leaned away until his back hit the tub near the spigot. He waited there until Jana climbed out several minutes later, then slowly trudged over to where a medical kit was locked to the wall. Tommy rushed over to get it unfastened and hurried to take care of Jana's bite wound, leaving Domino to get himself up and out of the bathtub.
His toe hurt like a bitch, but he kept quiet and limped over to a bench. Dropping down onto it, he heaved an exhausted sigh and just remained sitting there, head down, until he heard Jana head to the showers. Honestly, he didn't give a damn right then if he showered or not. He'd taken one the day before and hadn't done much, so when Tommy didn't tell him to get up and go wash, he just stayed put.
When Jana returned in his clean dull grey prison uniform, Domino forced himself to his feet and headed for the exit, grabbing his dropped spare uniform on the way. The walk up to the infirmary was silent as Tommy lead them and Tera trailed. She continuously tried to take her spot on Jana's right side, but every time the man looked down at her, she'd shrink back.
Jana refused to go inside when they finally got there, leaving Domino to just ducked in and get his toe splinted. He also took a Tylenol, but that was the extent of the medical treatment. He didn't want to be there, even if the new doctor looked pretty good. He was just tired. Thankfully, Tommy hadn't cuffed him at least, likely since he was already limping.
Leaving the infirmary, they quietly made their way back to their cell. Tommy was the only one who spoke, and it was just to tell them that he did have to report the incident, but he would try to make sure that Jana wasn't separated again for it. He also told them that he would bring them their food in their cell for the evening, which was fine with Domino. He wasn't really hungry, anyways, so when the door was finally locked, he found his way over to the wall and slid down with a tired sigh.
His eyes closed right away and his body sagged, ready for sleep, even if it was only around three or four in the afternoon. He could hear Jana moving about every few minutes, but wasn't worried enough to bother actually looking to see what he was doing.
"I'm sorry."
Domino's eyes shot open, expecting to see Jana on his bed. What he wasn't expecting was to see the man sitting in the corner, his blanket wrapped tightly around his shoulders, his knees pulled up to his chest, and Tera somehow squeezed in his arms between his chest and them. His head was facing toward the wall, so Domino figured that he didn't want to elaborate or talk, but then...
Looking back at the bed, he realized what Jana was telling him. His attention lowered to his broken toe and he grinned. I knew you had dropped the weight on purpose, asshole. He thought humorously as he stood and limped over to the bed, then dropped down onto it. The metal springs creaked beneath him, but he didn't give a single damn.
Bed.
Domino thought about responding for a moment, but considering the guy hadn't added anything extra and didn't initiate conversation, he decided against it. Besides, the bed was clearly offered as an apology and in return, Domino would use it to show an acceptance of forgiveness without words.
