Chapter 116

Jasmine met waiting car outside her workplace again, Axel’s persistent gesture. With a resigned sigh, she chose to walk, dismissing the driver he had sent. Upon reaching home, she was met with the sight of Axel’s belongings being packed.

Confused, she questioned, “What’s going on?”

“Axel, are you moving away?” she asked quietly, the distance between them pronounced since that fateful night.

“Yes,” he confirmed, leaving her heart sinking. He was physically distancing himself, going to the lengths of moving away. The realization hit her hard.

“Bella, I didn’t see you there.” Ethan said suddenly raising his head.

She plastered a smile on her face.

He stretched out his hand for her.

“Come.” He cajoled.

She walked to him then took his hand. Ethan pulled her down to his b*dy. The sudden movements shocked her.

Bella’s surprise grew as Ethan’s behavior became increasingly erratic.

Uncharacteristically disoriented, he was acting out of character, even displaying

unsteady movements.

“Ethan are you drunk?” She asked in surprise a frown forming on her face.

In their over five years of being together, Ethan had never been drunk, he barely drank despite his ability to handle alcohol.

The thought crossed Bella’s mind – was he trying to avoid a repetition of the day he claimed her as his mate? On that day, he Had also been drunk.

“I’m not drunk, I only had a little.” Ethan denied with a slur.

“Bella.” He muttered.

Her heart went soaring wild. This was all she wanted, Ethan’s attention and love.

Bella frowned noticing the sudden change again.

‘But, she’s always been here. Hazel was a liar and manipulator. Her little s ob stories were to get his pity. She had admitted it herself.

“Ethan.” Bella whined staring up at him with want.

About an hour of their slow tortuous S**, the two lay well satiated. Ethan’s arms reached out for Bella grabbing her and pulling her to himself. He was mumbling words she couldn’t understand.

When she finally heard what he was saying she froze completely.

“Hazel.” Ethan whispered on last time then went completely quiet.

Bella’s initial shock gave way to rage.

She exited the bed immediately pulling a robe around her b*dy as she stared at him in disbelief.

She couldn’t believe her ears. He had made love to her, held her and then muttered his ex-wife’s name!

She paced round the room, it was simply unbelievable.

“Why did you have to come back?” She questioned angrily still pacing.

She had to find out more about Hazel. For now the only thing she knew was that they frequently stayed at the hospital.

The night was long and uneasy for Bella, filled with restless tossing and turning, her mind consumed by the mysteries surrounding Ethan’s behavior.As dawn broke, she wasted no time and hurried to the address Sebastian had shared with her. The vibrant signboard of “Tiny Tots Day Care” greeted her at the designated location. Sebastian had mentioned that it was the daycare attended by Hazel’s kids. Observing the building intently, Bella’s focus shifted abruptly as she recognized another familiar face: Devin. A trusted confidant of Ethan, now apparently managing the daycare. The realization struck her, she knew Ethan’s way of securing his properties was planting people he trusted to manage. Seeing Devin there could only mean one thing, Ethan had purchased the day care.

Puzzled, Bella retreated quietly to her car. The pieces of the puzzle weren’t fitting together. Why would Ethan go to such lengths, even buying the school attended by his ex-wife’s children? The situation seemed more convoluted than ever. Her mind raced with questions. Why was Ethan still entangled with Hazel? What kind of man would be so obsessed and possessive over his ex-wife’s kids?

Then a light bulb went off, could it be that those kids were his, and Hazel had successfully deceived everyone five years ago? The mere thought of Ethan having a child outside their marriage, especially with Hazel, revolted her.

In her car, gripping the steering wheel tightly, Bella grappled with a maelstrom of emotions.

She begun breathing deeply to quail the anxiety that was about overwhelming her.

“Calm down, Bella,” she murmured to herself, desperately trying to dispel the unsettling possibilities. “Don’t jump to conclusions; you might be overthinking this.” Yet, the nagging doubt of what if’s persisted.
