Itâs the middle of the night and despite the stuffy weather that would never usually bother me, tonight I

am unable to fall asleepâ¦

I slowly flip the knife in my hand between my fingers, staring at the ceiling, the occasional orange light

apartment. She spent it in bed, that much I knew.

Well, soon enough, sheâll get over her past trauma. Maybe not fullyâ¦ because some things donât just

go away, but sheâll be able to cope with them. Iâm going to make sure of it.

I throw the knife up, watching it whizz downwards. For a second, I wonder how itâll feel if it stabbed me

through my eyeâ¦ I know that painâ¦ but Iâve blocked that memory out so itâs not so clear anymore. I

donât remember the sheer level of the painâ¦

I catch it between my two fingers, the tip millimetres from my eye.

There was a time when Lawrence Walton considered me a prodigy, the leader of the Sableâ¦ but when

he realised I was not the one he needed, his attitude towards me changed.

âI refuse,â I reply quietly as I look at Gerard and Lawrence who sit there, at that

grey oak table where they made every decision in their twisted plan.

âDid you say you refuse?â Gerard scoffs, irritation clear in his eyes. Whilst Lawrence simply smiles

thereâs no humour in it not anymore.
