VALERIE.
I gasp, my head snapping up only to find myself met with complete darkness. It takes me a few
seconds to realise where I am, and the pulled muscle in my neck is proof enough that Iâve been
sleeping like this for a while.
My gaze snaps to the bag next to me, but itâs still there, with the two pots of cold ramen inside of it..
This man!
Iâm about to get up when I realise why itâs so dark. The lights are off again. Is it a blackout again? But
no, that canât be possible. I would have heard the alarm go off
Is it just the hall light?
I am about to stand up when I hear a very quiet voice coming from somewhere down below.
âWeâre close⦠stay alert.â The voice is deep and cold and my stomach sinks, but itâs the rattling that
accompanies it that makes my stomach churn. Theyâre in masks and thatâs the sound of heavy
breathing through the vents in themâ¦
Please donât be another break in⦠the thought makes my stomach churn fearfully.
âFind her and kill her.â
My stomach plummets as I clamp my hand over my mouth.
Are they here for me?
I quietly get to my feet and make my way to the winding stairs in the centre beside the lift and look
down but see nothing.
âFind the freak and kill her, bring the body. We canât alert the authorities.â The first mutters menacingly.
âFour floors up and seems she is awake. The tracker shows sheâs moving
around.â Another spineâchilling voice snarls.
They are here for me.
I just moved.
How are they tracking me?! My phone is dead too- the chip.
No, thereâs no way anyone but the government has access to those. They said they would be secure,
and no one would be given the dataâ¦
My heart thuds as I quietly back away from the rail hearing their silent yet calculated footsteps climbing
the stairs, Iâm about to run to my apartment when suddenly a hand clamps over my mouth and Iâm
about to struggle but I recognise who it is by the tingle that rushes through me.
Zade!
âI told you, if I catch you, I will fuck you but youâre really making me want to punish you instead,â he
whispers menacingly as he drags me backwards into his apartment, he shuts the apartment door
silently and I feel a wave of relief.
âDonât make a sound. Iâm not going to be able to fight them this time,â he adds quietly before he lets go
of me. I spin around, my heart thundering when I realise heâs pale, extremely pale.
His hair is limp, his eyes dark, and he looks exhausted.
Heâs sick.
My roam over his shirtless body and thatâs when I see the large bruise that
covers his right flank, but even then, his eyes are scanning the room, alert and planning his next step.
âWe are going to have to act fast. Bite down on this,â he commands, shoving a cloth into my mouth. Iâm
about to argue when I see him take up the very same dagger he had thrown at me the other day.
He pulls me through to his bedroom and towards the bed and pushes me onto it as he straddles me.
âWhat are youâ¦â My eyes widen as he looks down at me and even in that moment when my heart is
clamouring with fear, I canât deny that a sliver of excitement and pleasure rush through me.
âTrust me and donât make a sound,â he whispers as he glances towards the door.
What does he mean?
I glance at the door when suddenly his grip on my wrist tights and sharp pain rips through me as he
slices into my left forearm, Iâm about to scream but he clamps his hand over my clothâfilled mouth
stopping any sound coming out, as he digs the blade deeper into my arm shaking his head in warning
at me.
