Chapter 1008 Eleanor clung to Bernardâs arm as they walked into the banquet hall, running smack dab into Tyler, who was coming out.
They stopped dead in their tracks. Tyler chuckled at the sight of the pair, his eyes radiating disdain.
âMs. Shultz, long time no see Ignoring Bemard, he greeted Eleanor, his eyes filled with contempt.
Eleanor didnât respond, just wanted to steer Bernard clear of Tyler. But just as they were about to leave, Tyler snickered âMs. Shultz, you certainly look better than the last time I saw you. Marriage seems to suit you.â
His jibe was so blatant that she had to respond, otherwise it would seem like sheâs too submissive.
âWhether Iâm happy or not has nothing to do with you, Dr. Howell.â
Tylerâs lips curled into a smirk.
âTrue, it doesnât concern me. But I happen to know that your happiness comes at a great cost to someone else.â
Eleanor felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment, and she froze in response to the situation.
Bernard noticed her reaction, and he furrowed his brows, thinking carefully before meeting Tylerâs gaze headâon.
âDid Garett send you to say this?â Bernard questioned Tyler, suspecting someone else might be behind this confrontation.
Tyler snorted dismissively. âWhy would he send me to say such things when he chose to step aside for you?â he retorted, indicating that Garett had willingly given way to Bernard.
Dressed in a black suit, Bernard remained composed, barely raising an eyebrow. His icy glare exuded a sense of strength and invincibility.
âSince he didnât send you, are you standing up for him, or are you suggesting that Garett is narrowâminded?â Bernard asked with a cool and cutting tone.
Tyler was taken aback by the sharp retort. He realized that his actions were not only failing to provoke them but also tarnishing his friendâs reputation.
His face fell, and he admitted, âI just thought Garett was suffering. I didnât like it, so I made a few sarcastic remarks. Itâs not about Garett Bernard raised an eyebrow, understanding Tylerâs loyalty to his friend. However, he made it clear, âAs Garettâs friend, I can see why you would defend him. But his reputation canât withstand your constant jabs. Next time, donât use his name to insult my wife.â
Tyler wanted to say something, but remembering Garettâs warming, he bit his tongue.
He said, if you use my situation to hurt Eleanor again, weâre done being friends.
Not wanting to lose Garett as a friend, Tyler bit the bullet and walked away.
He was only here to see Liana. After that, there was no reason to stick around.
Besides, Bernardâs wedding wasnât worth his time!
Once Tyler had left, Bernard squeezed her hand âYou didnât wrong Garett. Donât blame yourself.â
Years ago, she crawled through the pouring rain on a night in search of help to save him.
Years later, even though she was in love with Bernard, she still saw Garett as one of the most important people in her life Bernard held onto her hand tightly, as if he was grasping onto the love of his life.
âI understand your guilt, it comes from the legs that were sacrificed for you.â
He lowered his gaze to meet Eleanorâs clear eyes.
âDonât worry, I will heal his legs.â
Just like how he kicked away the gun in his hands without hesitation years ago, he will heal Jason.
Only by healing Garett can his wifeâs quilt fully dissipate Feeling his determination and strength, the guilt in Eleanorâs eyes gradually receded, replaced by gratitude.
âMy love, thank you...â

Thank you for your tolerance, and for being willing to do everything to help Garett. You saved him, spent money and resources to protect him, avenged his parents, helped him reclaim the Clowers family, and recently, even hired experts to treat his legs. Eleanor remembered all of this.
Seeing the tears shimmering in her eyes, Bernardâs lips curled into a smile, âYou look just like you did last night.â
Last night?
Eleanor blushed, recalling how he had her pinned against the floorâtoâceiling window, making her cry. But she wasnât crying out of pain, but...
Eleanor sheepishly nudged him, âThere are people around, what are you talking about?â
Bernard laughed, then took her hand and led her to the head table, calling over a waiter for a shawl.
âWhy do you need a shaw!?â
As he draped it over her, he leaned in close and whispered, âDidnât the doctor tell you to keep warm? The air conditioning here is pretty strong. I donât want you to catch a cold. Also...â
His eyes traveled down to her slightly exposed neckline, âThe doctor told us to exercise more. My dear, you wanted to thank me, right? How about rewarding me by making love with me a few more times every night...â
