He missed Eleanor terribly. He wanted to hold her, to kiss her, but she was gone.

Bernard closed his eyes, the pain overwhelming. His mind was filled with images of Eleanor’s smiles, her frowns, and her disappointment when she left.

Twice now she’d left him, both times disappointed in him. He wasn’t worthy of her love.

Bernard lifted his bloody hand to cover his eyes.
