Chapter 1342 She was feverish, sweating profusely. Her hair was drenched, making her look as if she had just been fished out of the ocean.
Seeing Eleanor in this state, Hailey felt a pang of heartache. She gently brushed the sticky strands of hair from Eleanorâs forehead, wiping away the sweat with a towel.
For over two months, Eleanor had vanished into the night, leaving nothing but a letter behind. She had broken her promise, leaving Hailey both angry and worried.
Pregnant and constantly anxious, Hailey spent her days either bedridden or in tears. She had even prepared for the worst, yet she couldnât bear to believe it. She hoped that Eleanor, who had already faced death once, wouldnât be so unlucky again.
Thankfully, Robin returned with news that Eleanor was alive, as was Bernard, though they were in some danger. Only then was Hailey able to sleep soundly.
She knew that Robin was holding back information, but that was enough for Hailey, who clung to hope. As long as Eleanor was alive, that was all that mattered.
Gently, Hailey wiped Eleanorâs forehead, cheeks, neck, and palms, until her fever finally broke and she could breathe a sigh of relief.
Eleanor was still in the throes of a nightmare, but this time, a gentle hand was there to pull her from the watery depths. Her furrowed brow relaxed, and under the cool touch, she fell into a brief slumber before slowly opening her eyes again.
This time, it wasnât Robin she saw, but Haileyâs radiant face.
âEleanor, are you awake?â Hailey asked, dropping the towel and leaning in for a closer look. âAre you feeling okay?â
Eleanor shook her head gently, then licked her dry lips. âHailey, Iâm sorry for worrying you.â
Her first words were an apology, which did much to quell Haileyâs anger. She playfully pushed Eleanorâs shoulder. âYouâre pregnant and you run off to some dangerous place. Do you not care about your safety or our concern at all?â
Hearing Hailey scold her like an older sister, Eleanor managed a serene smile. âHailey, did you miss me?â
Hailey, who had planned to feign anger, burst into tears at the question. âWhat do you think? You didnât answer your phone, and we couldnât reach you. What else could we do but worry?â
Eleanorâs eyes welled up as well. âHailey, youâve always been the best to me.â
âWe grew up together. Who else could match our bond, our shared history? Of course Iâll always be there for you.â Hailey said, causing Eleanorâs tears to spill over.
âStop crying, you look terrible.â
âYou donât look so great yourself when you cry.â
The two women laughed through their tears. Hailey then embraced Eleanor, not minding her growing belly. âAll that matters is that youâre back.â
Eleanor nuzzled into Haileyâs embrace, comforted by the familiar scent. After their tears had dried, she reached out to touch Haileyâs belly, âWhen is the baby due?â, âIn two months,â Hailey replied.
âIâm so glad I made it back in time to see you give birth.â
âOh, please. You should be preparing a baby shower gift.â
Eleanor gave a small smile. âCedricâs so wealthy, so you really need my baby shower gift?â
âCedricâs money is mine, and so is your gift.â
âYouâre greedy.â Eleanor joked, touching Haileyâs belly, âYour mommy is greedy, right?â
âEven as Mrs. Laurence, youâre so stingy.â Hailey smiled.
At the mention of Mrs. Laurence, Eleanorâs smile faltered.
âSomething wrong, Eleanor?â Hailey asked, noticing the change in her friendâs demeanor.
Eleanor was silent for a moment before finally speaking. âBernard and I are getting a divorce. Donât call me Mrs. Laurence anymore, âA divorce?â Hailey was taken aback. She had thought that even if she and Cedric divorced, Bernard would never leave Eleanor. After all, his love for her was incomparable. But the emotion in Eleanorâs eyes told her the sad truth.
âWhat... what happened?â Hailey asked.

Eleanor turned onto her side, propping her head up with her hands. âHailey, was it a mistake that I have gone to find Bernard?â
Hailey, who knew nothing of the situation, was confused. âYou canât think so. If the person you love disappears, of course youâd go looking for them.
Having built a home with Cedric, despite the short time they had been together, Hailey felt a deep dependence on him. If he were to suddenly disappear, she knew she would do everything in her power to find him. How could she just sit back and do nothing?
