Chapter 1344 Eleanor caught a glimpse of the lingering tension in the room, âSorry, Iâve made you worried.â
âWeâre not worried, itâs just that Bryson looks like heâs aged a decade from the stress.â
Scott tried to soothe Eleanor, only to be interrupted by an offhand comment from Aidyn..
âHe looked old to begin with.â
Aidyn was obviously trying to provoke Scott, who responded with clenched fists and a fierce glare. However, in Eleanorâs presence, they avoided a physical brawl, and instead chose to turn their backs on each other.
Eleanor was oblivious to their petty quarrels and offered a few words of apology.
Both men quickly dismissed her apologies, expressing their understanding of her situation.
After the small talks, Cedric finally cut to the chase.
âEleanor, how is Bernard doing? Is he hurt?â
Earlier, Cedric had tried to get information from Robin, who was as tight-lipped as if his lips were welded shut.
Cedric had been on the verge of punching him a few times, but held back, considering Robin had accompanied Eleanor to find Bernard.
Eleanor knew they were all worried about Bernard. So, unlike her grieving demeanor in front of Hailey, she responded to Cedricâs query in a composed manner.
âHeâs not hurt. In fact, heâs become the member of Area Opaca.â
Upon hearing this, the tension that had been building up over the past few days eased.
âHe is quite something, isnât he?â Cedricâs eyes radiated pride. It seemed as though Bernardâs success was the most boast-worthy achievement.
Eleanor concurred, albeit subtly, by lowering her eyelashes.
Noticing this, Aidyn felt a pang of anxiety, âMaâam, youâre not hiding anything from us, are you?â
Eleanor snapped out of her melancholy, âWhy would I hide anything? Heâs absolutely fine.â
Bernard was unharmed and seemed to be in good health.
âMr. Spencer mentioned that Sophie was also in Area Opaca but she never exposed Mr. Laurenceâs identity. Is she plotting something?â
Eleanor remembered the adoring look in Sophieâs eyes when she saw Bernard, and instinctively shook her head, âSheâs still in love with Bernard.
Thatâs why she didnât expose him.â
Had Sophie been instrumental in Bernard becoming one of the members of Area Opaca?
If so, Sophie had made quite a sacrifice for Bernard.
Despite his cold-heartedness towards Sophie, she remained blindly in love with him. But it was quite infuriating how Sophie had transferred her unrequited love for Bernard onto Eleanor.
âSo, Mr. Laurence is safe for now?â
âHe should be.â
Eleanor thought that if Bernard had become the member of Area Opaca, it wasnât just Sophieâs doing but also the approval of the people behind the scenes.
These individuals must have recognized Bernardâs capabilities, which is why he was given this responsibility.
Eleanor believed that as long as Bernard kept his identity a secret, he would be safe.
âWhen will he be back?â This was Scottâs primary concern.
Ever since Evan brought back Calebâs remains and Mr. Lawâs death news, everything had been a mess.
Mr. Penrod took charge for a few days, and then passed the hot potato to Evan and Gianna, while he busied himself with investigating the shadowy figures behind Area Opaca.
Although Mr. Law had already ventured into Area Opaca for the same purpose, Scott had a hunch that Mr. Penrod knew something they didnât.
âI donât know.â Eleanor was clueless about when Bernard would return.
âConsidering Mr. Laurenceâs progress, he might return after meeting the founder of Area Opaca, perhaps?â Aidyn asked with uncertainty.
âMaybe.â Eleanorâs response was as uncertain as Aidynâs question. She was unaware of the rules and regulations of Area Opaca, nor did she know about the access permissions required for the different zones, let alone the chip in Bernardâs brain.
She only knew that Bernard had become the one of the Area Opaca members, which meant he was safe from them. The only threat was Sophie discovering his identity.
With this in mind, Eleanor offered a word of advice.
âIf possible, donât give up on finding the location of Area Opaca. Iâm worried that Sophie might lose it one day and expose Bernardâs identity, putting him in danger.â
Despite her anger and disappointment, Eleanor was genuinely concerned for Bernardâs safety.
She later realized that as long as Bernard was alive, it didnât matter if they were apart. It wasnât a big deal.
Their differences in perspectives â with one wishing for a partnership and the other believing in distancing â were evident. It was clear they werenât compatible, and perhaps it was for the best that they separated.
âMaâam, do you have any other leads?â
âArea Opaca gave me an address to claim a bounty. Does that count as a lead?â
Aidyn nodded vigorously, âOf course, it does!â
Eleanor looked at Robin, who had been silent all along, âShould I give it to them?â
It took Robin a moment to realize that Eleanor was asking for his opinion on whether she should share the bounty address with them.
âGo ahead.â Robin thought to himself: Iâm rich enough, so I donât need a few billion.
Eleanor took Aidynâs phone and wrote down the address in the notes app.
After receiving the address, Aidyn and Scott informed Evan and Gianna, and immediately set off.
Once they left, Peterson, who had been waiting outside for a long time, finally knocked on the door, âMs. Shultz, may I have a moment of your time?â
