Chapter 6 Eleanor endured that heartâwrenching feeling as she forced herself to walk back to her seat.
She decided to quit her job sooner rather than later. She didnât want to see that loveyâdovey couple every day for the rest of her life. She was afraid she couldnât take it, afraid she couldnât help but confront Bernard and ask him why he was being so cruel to her!
After finishing her resignation letter, she went to see Rosita, the head of the CEOâs office, for approval.
Rosita didnât think much of her and only tried halfâheartedly to persuade her to stay before giving her approval.
The resignation process would take a month, so Eleanor couldnât leave right away. She had no choice but to take a twoâweek vacation instead.
She had worked at VitaLife Global for five years and had earned 15 days of paid vacation, so using them before quitting was normal. Seeing how desperate she was, Rosita couldnât help but give her a dirty look. âFine, you can take the time off, but as soon as youâre back, youâll have to wrap up your work.â
Eleanor just said âsureâ and picked up her bag, leaving VitaLife Global for good.
As soon as she stepped out of the building, she ran into Josef Caporal, the CEO of the Caporal Group.
He was notorious in A City for being an absolute scumbag, treating women horribly.
Eleanor was terrified when she saw him smiling and approaching her, so she turned around and tried to run back inside.
But Josef quickly caught up to her, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into his arms. âWhere do you think youâre going?â
Then he deliberately lowered his head and blew gently into her ear.
The warm breath made Eleanorâs skin crawl with goosebumps.
She tried to push Josef away, but he held onto her waist tightly, not letting her get anywhere.

He sniffed her hair and then tried to grope her chest.
Eleanor quickly grabbed his hand and said coldly, âMr. Caporal, please show some respect.â
Biting her earlobe, Josef wickedly asked, âWhatâs that?â
His voice wasnât unpleasant, but his words were disgusting, and Eleanor couldnât stand it.
She turned her head away, her eyes filled with disgust, but Josef didnât care.
The more a woman resisted, the more he wanted to conquer her, and it gave him the ultimate pleasure.
Josef stroke her cheek.
Annoyed, Eleanor shook off his hand. âMr. Caporal, weâre not that close. Please show me some respect.â
A month ago, when Eleanor had gone to the Caporal Group to deliver some documents, Josef had taken an interest in her.
Since then, he had often used business meetings as an excuse to harass her at the company.
Every time he encountered her, he would either make inappropriate physical contact or speak offensively.
Eleanor had needed her job and the money, so she hadnât dared to offend him before and had put up with it.
But now that she had left VitaLife Global, she was no longer afraid of Josef.
To her surprise, though, Josef wasnât angry at her cold behavior; instead, he affectionately pinched her cheek.
âSleep with me just once, and then weâll be âclose.â
Eleanor thought his shamelessness knew no bounds. She struggled to contain her disgust and pushed him away when he tried to get closer.

Cameron Ratliff, the chairman of VitaLife Global, had just walked into the building and noticed Bernard. Hurriedly, he led his shareholders over.
âBernard, what brings you to VitaLife Global today?â
Withdrawing his gaze, Bernard replied indifferently, âIâm here to drop off Sophie.â
Cameron immediately understood that Bernard was there to support his daughter, and he nodded approvingly. âItâs a lot of trouble for you, having to run back and forth, with Sophie just returning home.â
Bernard had no particular emotion, but he did give a courteous smile. âIâll head back to the Laurence Group now.â
Cameron hurriedly said, âGo on, donât let us hold you up. In a couple of days, weâll bring Sophie over to the Laurence family for a proper visit.â
Bernard simply nodded and left immediately.
The bodyguards behind him quickly split into two teams, guarding him.
As he walked past Eleanor, he didnât even spare her a glance, completely ignoring her presence.
As it turned out, that feeling from before was simply an illusion. Bernard didnât care about her at all, so why would he be staring at her?
