chapter 11
My Promised Land
Everything changed so fast that I'm also confused thinking how I reached this point!I was a delicate young girl who was once dependent on her family and fiancee for every little thing. I lived my life for their happiness but when I needed them the most they abandoned me. I also discovered a sad truth which made me want to die still I met some people who made me want to live longer. Now after two years of living this life, I don't regret choosing this path. I feel very satisfied with this new life. On that sunny morning I was preparing Ayush and Anna for their school."Mom, yesterday I saw brother fighting with his classmate" Anna said."Liar...I didn't fight mom, I just argued a little bit with him because he himself started it" Ayush said."What! Who is that kid and why did you argue?" I asked. "He is that fatty boy mom, the big hotel of the town belongs to them. I didn't do anything wrong, I was just walking along the varandha but out of nowhere he came and his copy fell because of that sudden encounter. so I said sorry and give his copy back on his hand but he was not satisfied and wanted me to do his homework for this" Ayush said."What! He doesn't seems like a good guy, stay away from him in future and if anything happens then let teacher know everything. Alright!" I said."Yes mom" Ayush said. "And you little fairy, if you don't finish your tiffin today then you won't get any cake on your brother's tenth birthday which is only four days away" I said to anna. "Mom! I don't like carrots.." Anna said by making a crying face."If you don't eat it then mom also won't like you" I said by making same expression as her.Anna didn't get any other excuse to make. It was very funny to tease her."Oh God! If your dramas are over then we should head towards the bus. We are getting late mom" Ayush said."Oh! Let's go..." I said and ran outside towards road. I let them catch the school bus on time and then took a deep breath, an unknown satisfaction came into my heart and my lips widened and I smiled while seeing off my kids.I came to this small town and settled down here with my two kids. This small town is a small tourist place, this is why it became a town, otherwise it might have remained as a remote area. It's already two years above and soon three years of moving to this town will be completed. I'm also twenty eight now. After dropping my children, I went to my working place. My work place was five kilometres away from my house. Which was nearer to tourist site.I took some money from the money Kamala left for her children. I knew it was not right for me to take that money but I know she won't mind it if I used it for her children's betterment.I bought a small house here and opened a food stall. Actually, except studying all I know was making sweets and other food items in my father's shop. My food stall got famous here and I opened a shop. My shop also made good profits. Then I returned all the money I took from Kamala's money and deposit it on kid's name. Then recently I opened an inn attached to my shop for tourists.Where they can get both food and shelter. My degrees and high qualifications were no use to me as I'm not the person who got those degrees. Those degrees were for Gauri but I'm Shakti now.But we shouldn't forget the phrase 'knowledge is power'. I might have no proof to show my qualification. But my knowledge helped me to develop. It all became possible because I could talk four foreign language. This attracted many tourist to come into my shop and my great hospitality helped me get more and more customers. With my small inn I also able to create employment in this area. Most of my employees are women because they were the house wives who wanted to do something to support their families."Shakti, you are finally here.... I really need you at this time. Some foreigners are here and I don't understand anything they says" Radhika said as soon as I reached the inn.Radhika was my only friend and my subordinate in this business. Her husband has a grocery shop and among all other women she is the most qualified person here. She completed her graduation but her parents restricted her studies and let her get married but her husband is a nice and open minded person, that was why he let her do anything she wishes for. After me she was the one who became incharge of my inn. "Okay, let's go" I said then together we went to meet the foreigners. I talked to them and they couldn't talk anything except their native language. I helped them and arranged everything according to their need in my inn. After this business ended I went into my office and checked accounts. Radhika came with me and said "thank God, you were on time otherwise we would have a great loss. Okay you do your work then we will go for supervision"."Wait!" I called her and gave her a box from my drawer. "What is it ?" She asked and opened the box. "It's a smartphone. You are the manager of this inn and I can't be available here everytime in need. There is a translator here in this phone which will help you to talk with foreigners and it will be convenient for you to do other work with this" I said. She was very surprised after seeing this smartphone. It was for the first time she get to hold a smartphone. She jumped on me and hugged me."You are the best boss" she said with tears.I can understand her feelings. In this small town where women were looked down upon, she an woman get something on her own efforts, she must have feeling very proud right now."Don't get too excited, I'm giving you this because I wanted to make you work more" I said."Yes boss, I will work harder from now on" she said with a smile. At that time my cellphone rang and I got a call from school. After this call I stood from my sit and ran towards garage where my scooty was parked. "Radhika take care of inn, I will be away for sometime" I said to Radhika."What happened boss?" She asked."I got a call from Ayush's teacher, he got into a fight. So, I'm going to school now" I said."Okay boss, be careful and don't get worried about the inn"she said and I drove towards to school very fast.
