Sahari's Bedroom, 4:40 am.

Soulswin, Laanville 📍

Sahari slowly opened her eyes as she heard a loud noise. She looked around her slightly lit room and tried to decide if the sound was something inappropriate or if she should go investigate.

She got her answer when the noise got louder and sounded like yelling. She slid on her slippers and robe and cautious walked to the hallway. But the sound wasn't coming from her guardians room and to make sure she peaked in and they were knocked out, cuddling.

But the yelling became louder and she started hearing grunts. She slowly followed the noise and when she made it to the kitchen, her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. There was a girl sitting on the counter with her legs open and by the braids she could tell it was Cateleya, who was between them.

She was lost for words. She goes to pull Cateleya away by the back of her shirt but when she yanks she falls back and through the wall.

She jolted awake and felt around the bed then put her hand over her heart to make sure she's alive. She also tried to listen out for any noises, but it was completely silent. She laid back down and removed her thick blanket off of her because she felt sweaty.

Sahari doesn't even try to force herself to go to back to sleep, she put her left arm behind her head and looked at the gold night light stars on her ceiling. It had been long 4 days of waiting for Cateleya to acknowledge her existence. She hadn't answered any texts, calls, FaceTimes. Sahari wasn't a fan of social media, but she was sure that Cateleya blocked her on instagram and Facebook.

She popped up at Cateleya's house, she wasn't there. She went to the football field, but because she wasn't approved before hand so she wasn't allowed to enter.

Sahari had no idea what to do to make this all better. Cateleya hadn't been this mad at her in a while, 2 years to be exact. She missed a really big flag football game to go to a church event. Luckily one of her classmates father's played for one of Cateleya's favorite football teams and she was able to get Cateleya a signed football. This time she had no clue what to say or do.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BE-

Sahari barely moved her body as she used one arm to turn off the alarm. She felt Shine lay on her legs and sighed as she used the same arm to pet the dog's head. She sat there for a few more seconds before sitting up. She did the exact same routine she does 99% of the time. Today she just felt like she was moving in slow motion.

Except for when she's running, of course.

8:48 am. Math class 📍

"I know you all don't like group projects, but this one is short and fun. Group one is Matt, Sara,Tom, and Joe. Group 2 is Maribel, Sandy, Sahari, and Alex- "YESS" Alex loudly shouted, he high-fived his friends who laughed. Sahari rolled her eyes and thought about failing on purpose just to spite Alex being happy about working with her. But the thought left as quick as it can.

After everyone knew their group they moved, Sahari stayed put though. She wouldn't be able to focus if she wasn't in her same seat, angled the exact same way. "Hi" Maribel smiled as she sat next to Sahari, her perfume was again very noticeable. Sahari waved and looked back down on the sheet with their names on it.

"You looked so pretty at church yesterday" Maribel whispered as she put her hand on Sahari's lower thigh. Sahari's eyes went wide, and she quickly looked around to make sure no one else was watching. Maribel immediately noticed the uncertainty from Sahari and removed her hand. "Opps. Sorry" she smiled and winked at Sahari then slowly turned away to look at her own paper.

Sahari was sheltered, but she wasn't stupid. Maribel sounded anything else, but sorry. The more she sat though, she didn't want to think about what it meant if Maribel did do it on purpose. So she told the girl it was okay then looked at the teacher as she began talking about instructions.

When her lunch period came she got a chicken and bean salad burrito and sat in the same seat, next to Celeste. They were both on the quieter side today so their interaction was at a minimum. She was trying to concentrate on her movie, but she couldn't because she kept hearing loud talking. She was going to ignore it because it wasn't abnormal for teens to fight, but she slid one of her headphones off when she saw the back of Amara's hijab.

"We don't want you sitting here. We don't even want you on the team" Allison told Amara loudly. "I didn't know you own the table or track team" Amara replied. The other girls on the team were shocked, they have never seen someone talk to Alison like that. "You must don't know who you're dealing with. What does yours do?" Allison asked, smirking. There was a rumor going around the school that Amara was a scholarship kid and was from a poor neighborhood in Philly. Allison was trying to embarrass her.

When Sahari saw the look on Amara's face it brought back memories from when she was asked, a week in at this school. Thankfully Juno had money she could back herself up with, but she could've been Amara. A scholarship kid, trying to make it out. Sahari sighed and made eye contact with Amara.

"You can sit next to me" Sahari internally cringed at the sound of her low, but noticeable voice. She avoided all eyes, but Amara's and when Amara saw Sahari was serious she lightly nodded and started to walk over. But before her butt could touch the seat Alison asked "you're not serious?" Sahari shrugged "she's apart of the team... But we can move" Sahari made known, reaching for her things, making a few of the other girls, including Celeste do the same.

The other girls on the team could count on one hand how many times Sahari has had a full conversation with them, but they still liked and respected her as a teammate. She always clapped when they won and gave them high-fives when they lost, she remembered their favorite snacks when it was Jayla's turn to provide snacks and drinks for practice and meets. Most of them also looked up to her so if she was moving, so were they.

"Okay... Fine. She can sit with us" Alison reluctantly said, not wanting Sahari to leave because it would look bad. Sahari was actually never going to leave because it would disturb her routine, but Alison didn't know that.

Eventually everyone went back to minding their own business so Amara tried to thank Sahari. But when she turned her head to the right, Sahari had her eyes glued to the screen as she chewed. Amara knew when someone didn't wanna be bothered so she turned back around and focused on her own food.

<><>

Sahari sat on the wooden bench and sang a gospel song to a lady bug that was crawling on her palm. She was supposed to be taking pictures of the students who missed picture day, but after the second one she found herself walking to her favorite bench. She was enjoying her time outside until she heard a leaf crunch and jumped. "Oh shit" Amara tried to hide her smile "I read an article that said youse scare easily, but I didn't think it was real. That wasn't on purpose I swear" Amara made known as she sat next to Sahari.

It didn't surprise Sahari that Amara had read about her, she was sure every person who liked female track in her city has. That wasn't her being cocky, but she was #2 in the state last year and #1 graduated so she knew all eyes were on her. She wasn't letting it mess with her head, though. Rayven had already prepared for it.

"Anyways... I just wanted to thank youse for sticking up for me at lunch. I know youse didn't have to especially since I challenged youse which was childish, but I'm not gonna lie. It was fun" Amara continued and Sahari finally looked at her. 'Fun?' She thought then eyed Amara. 'This girl may be weirder than me' she continued to think then looked away.

"I know if youse don't like me, but the silent treatment is so third grade" Amara stated, getting visibly annoyed. Sahari couldn't care less about the girl's annoyance, she just wanted to know why the girl hadn't given up yet. "You shouldn't lie, it's a sin" she told Amara and Amara's eyes went wide. She wasn't expecting Sahari to actually respond.

She quickly recovered and asked "when did I lie?" "You said I dont like you which is a lie. I don't know you, now if you'll excuse me" Sahari sighed and reluctantly started to get up. "Wait! Please. I- I need your help" Amara made known, getting up with Sahari.

Sahari tried not to show it on her face, but she was very confused. "I need youse to train me. I want youse to. I was injured last year and I don't know if I trust my body 100% yet and you're the best here. I want to learn from youse. This is so embarrassing, but the rumors are true. I am a scholarship kid and I will be in college too well if youse help me" Amara explained and Sahari slowly sits back down while trying to wrap her head around all this new information.

"I know this is crazy and obviously youse can say no I just hope youse won't because I really need this and I- you know what I'm going to shut up now" Amara stopped herself from saying more as her leg started to bounce.

They sat in silence for a full 2 minutes.

"I won't train you, but you can train with me" Sahari answered, slowly, lowly, and firmly. "I'm not going to burn myself out for you or anyone else so this or nothing" she continued. Amara didn't actually think she would agree so she smiled widely and nodded. "Something is better than nothing. Your phone?" Amara put her hand out and Sahari carefully gave it to her.

"Just text me the details and again thank youse for today. It's been rou- youse know what I'm just gonna go, I've overstayed enough" Amara lightly chuckled and put her backpack back on. "Bye" she said and Sahari waved.

🌊🌊🌊🌊

Sahari laid in bed after her after school shower and stared tiredly at the episode of Care Bears on the TV. Her eyes were starting to close on the door until she heard a knock on the door. "Come in" she said immediately "i'm about to touch up my makeup then we're going to the shop, Mouse" "i'm confused you did my hair last night" Sahari replied and Jayla smiled. "Yeah, but I'm doing Lee- "I'm up" Sahari made known as she instantly sat up. "Thought so" Jayla giggled and closed the door back.

No longer feeling tired, Sahari slid on her house shoes, put on her robe and zoomed to her guardians room. Juno was sitting up against the headboard, his glasses on, doing words puzzles while listening to the news.

Sahari plopped on the bed and he looked at her from the corner of his eye. He didn't acknowledge her until she dramatically sighed. He took off his glasses "yes?" "Help me with my apology please" "Little-" "pleaasseeee. You know the news always shows twice" she pleaded. He straight faced her and she pouted. "Fine" he gave in and she immediately laid her head on his legs, getting comfortable.

On the way to the salon Sahari wasn't nervous and felt confident in her plan, well she thought so until they parked and she immediately felt nauseous. She felt relieved that Cateleya wasn't in yet and she could have a few more minutes to calm herself down.

She sat in Jayla's chair and watched the clock on the wall. She knew the one thing Cateleya didn't play about was being on time for her hair appointment. And like clockwork Cateleya came strutting in at exactly 4 on the dot. Sahari watched as she greeted mostly everyone in the room, making some of the older ladies blush from compliments. Cateleya turned to greet Jayla and her smile instantly dropped when she saw Sahari instead.

Cateleya takes two steps backwards and is about to turn around so Sahari jumps out of the chair and grabbed her arm. "Please. 5 minutes" Sahari begged and Cateleya eyed her, but said nothing. Sahari took that as a yes and tried to lead them somewhere private "no, aquí afuera" Cateleya doesn't move "b- but Lee" Sahari whispered, ignoring all the eyes she felt on her as she pleaded with her own. "Bien but only 4 minutes. Jay has a 10 minute late policy" Cateleya caved in and lets Sahari lead her to the storage closet.

"I'm sorry. I- "you know you always say hurtful shit to me" Cateleya interrupted her. "What?" Sahari questioned, "since that day in 8th grade. When I told you why I wanted to take a girl instead of a boy to the 8th grade prom. I always let it slide cause you're my best friend, but I'm not going to be your punching bag Sahari. You saying that I make you uncomfortable knowing what I went through to be let back into the girls restrooms, and locker room at school is so fucked up. Sometimes I feel like a hidden enemy of yours, like you hate me, but won't tell me" Cateleya spoke with her natural gentleness, but Sahari could hear the sadness too.

"I don't hate you at all. I promise. It's just complicated because you- "I represent everything you pray not to be" "don't say like that..." "but it's the truth and one day you're going to pray against me" "what? I would never. I'm sorry that I said that you make me uncomfortable. It's far from the truth, you're one of the people I can show my true self to. I shouldn't have said something so stupid. You deserve better than that" "if I deserve better, then tell me what's up, Hari. Be real" Cateleya replied.

Sahari slowly grabbed Cateleya's hands and when Cateleya didn't pull away she interlocked them. Loving the warm feeling.

"I didn't like seeing you and that Makayla girl together" Sahari admitted, and Cateleya hid her amusement and rolled her eyes. "Don't do that, she was nothing, but nice to you" "you're right, my bad" Sahari sighed. "I'm just confused and I don't even know why, and I took my frustrations out on you. I'm so sorry, deeply" Sahari apologized and Cateleya eyed her face.

She bits her bottom lip and nods "alright, but I really need you to do better Hari" Cateleya expressed. She was trying not to fault herself, but she couldn't help but to also blame herself because she felt she let Sahari go on for too long. "What you allow once will continue to happen" she was told time and time again by her mother.

"I will, I promise" Sahari replied, and she would. She couldn't lose Cateleya, she wouldn't know how to live. "Okay then we're good" Cateleya said and Sahari smiled, but quickly stopped when she saw Cateleya wasn't doing the same.

"But I need some time... Away from you" "but you just said we're good?" Sahari asked, confused on why Cateleya wanted to spend even more time apart. 'Did she not miss me as much as I missed her' she thought as she got a bad feeling in her stomach. "We are. I'm not leaving you forever. You're still my best friend, my heart, and the pain in my ass. I just need some time to think about some stuff" 'and to find a way to stop my feelings for you' Cateleya thought, feeling her heart ache.

"Oh okay... I can't be mad at that" Sahari mumbled. "Can I have one last hug?" Sahari asked, which surprised Cateleya because Sahari wasn't big on physical touch. "It's not our last hug. Shut up" Cateleya playfully rolled her eyes and pulled Sahari into a hug by her hands. When Sahari smelled Cateleya's familiar cologne, it felt so bittersweet knowing she would soon not be able to and she didn't even know for how long.

"I love you Mi Amor" Cateleya whispered into her ear and Sahari immediately got a chill down her back. Cateleya had told her those 3 words many times before, but this time... she didn't know. They felt different. "I love you too" Sahari replied and Cateleya lightly squeezed her body twice before pulling away. Cateleya wanted to a kiss her cheek, but stopped herself, trying to stand her ground someway. "Later?" "Later" and they walked out of the closet together, going different directions.

Sahari walked into Jayla's office and Jayla looked away from her desktop and smiled at her. "So sleepover tonight or?" She asked, getting up and at the question Sahari finally broke and heavy tears came down her face. "Not tonight or for a while" she said through a sob. "Damnn Mouse" Jayla wrapped her arms around her and put Sahari's head to her chest. "I really messed up this time" she cried and Jayla tightened her arms around her. "Do you want me to cancel?" "Heck no. She'll really hate me then" she lifted her head and wiped her tears as new ones came down.

"Well I'll text babe to come get you, just lay down. Scream if you need me" Jayla told her, getting her comfortable on the couch in her office. Sahari nodded and put her hoodie on, her headphones over both ears and lowly played gospel music until she dozed off on the couch.
