eighteen

"Isabelle, what do you remember from the day your father told you, you would become the Luna of your pack?" I look up at Xavier shaking slightly, his green eyes filled with nothing but kindness.

It was a strange feeling, feeling safe. Xavier and I had arrived before a large house at the end of the forest. The walk had been silent but the air full of questions. I guess I couldn't expect anything beyond the cordial light-hearted conversation before the truth came tumbling out. Except unlike Theo, Xavier had a gentle way with words, coaxing the answer out of me.

"Isabelle I know you must have a lot of questions but I need you to answer mine first." Twiddling my thumbs I close my eyes.

That day had changed everything, I'd always been an omega yes. Unvalued but the only abuse I had ever received was verbal and I guess at the point I still had some fire in me.

"W-well it j-just kind of h-happend." I say timidly letting the memories stumble out.

"She's gone." I hear the rough voices from behind the stairwell creeping closer to the door.

"What do you mean she's gone?! I NEED HER!" A vicious growl rings through the empty house as my heart rate spikes.

"She disappeared." Came a shaky reply, whoever was talking was clearly afraid.

"How. Did. She. Disappear?" The reply was curt but without being able to see either of them it was almost impossible to tell if they were mad or impatient.

"I d-don't know, Alpha she just disappeared." I blink, that's the Alpha talking? Who is he talking to? Who is gone?

Inching further towards the door, I struggle to hear the rest of the conversation.

"I told you to watch over her, make sure they couldn't break their end of the deal."

"I know Alpha sir and I have been."

"If you had been she would be here right now!" The Alpha cried his voice once again ringing through the house.

"She went to school there's no way for me to follow her there but she's always been safe. There's so many people there not to mention both her brother's I never thought they would let her out of their sight."

"You're an idiot! Only the younger one knows about the deal."

"W-what?"

"You heard what I said boy. Only the younger one knows he is his father's son after all." The Alpha growled out, "what am I supposed to do now?"

"There are many other girls suitable I'm sure w-." The second voice tried only to be interrupted by the first.

"You're a foul just like the rest of them, I need her. She's the only one."

"B-but Alpha sir she's g-gone."

"I KNOW SHE'S GONE YOU JUST TOLD ME!" I sink back from the door as the shouting becomes too much to bear.

Within minutes the shouting turns to whispering and before I know it I'm hurrying up the stairs as the door swings open.

A/N: The next part is exactly the same as the prologue, I have done this to add more context as the prologue will be changed but if you thought it was familiar that is why :)

"Are you insane?!" I scream at my father, he just looks at me with a look that can freeze over molten lava.

"You should be honoured."

"Honoured to be what?" I cry, this cannot be happening. I can't believe my father would do this to me, my whole life I've relied on the idea of finding my mate and finally earning someone's respect. Yet my father won't allow it.

"You listen to me Isabelle, you should feel very special the Alpha chose you." The look in his eyes scares me, the determination and the coldness chills me.

"I don't want to be Luna! I want to be mated to my mate not some Alpha who's twenty years older than me."

"Thats not how it works, your mother isn't my mate but I'm still happy" I scoff at my fathers poor example. Not only do my parents constantly fight they both have so many different bed partners I'm surprised they still remember each other.

"This is the only pack in the country who doesn't allow werewolves to find their true mates." I growl at my father, what right does he have?

"You truly are delusional if you believe in mates, no Alpha of this pack has ever found their mate."

"Dad! We go to a school with three other packs, they are all able to find their mates."

My father spits in my face, "do you think if you ever found your mate he would want you? What I have been telling you your whole life?"

I glare at the floor stubbornly focusing on memories of my father before he changed.

"What have I been telling you?" His voice is tight and I can tell he's about to crack. "WHAT HAVE I BEEN TELLING YOU?"

"If my mate ever found me he wouldn't want someone as weak as me, I should be happy anyone wants me."

"See, that wasn't so hard."

"Its not true!" I cry out tears streaming down my cheeks.

My father gives me a pitiful look, "oh Isabelle there is so much you don't know. Not only are you the weakest member of this pack you are ugly and a burden to us all." He smiles as he tells me and I feel my heart break for millionth time, those words. The ones I've heard my whole life still hurt just as much as they did when I was five.

I look down at myself slightly disgraced, my blonde hair in pigtails. I'd even managed to plait one of them. Slowly I ran my finger over the scar, carved onto my right cheek a prize, a mark. Dressed from head-to-toe in blue I let my tears fall.

"If I'm a burden then why would the Alpha want me? If I'm so ugly why would he mate with me?" I ask as a small shred of hope grows inside me, maybe my father is wrong.

"You are the daughter of a Beta and despite you weak frame you are born to lead."

"I won't mate him."

"You have no choice my dear Isabelle, this is your pack, you will obey the rules and as your father and Beta of the 'Dark Sky Pack' I order you to mate with your Alpha. If not for your good then for mine."

I stare up at my father and finally see him, truly see him. Not the man that raised me like I could do anything or be anyone, but the man who he really his. The one who will blindly follow his Alpha even if it means throwing his family under the bus, the man who's obsession with power has finally eaten him alive and left nothing of the man I called my father. Instead stands a cruel heartless man who cares none of who he hurts as long as there's something in it for him.

"N-No." I say clenching my fists as tears streak down my face.

My father turns away from with an angry look in his eyes, "you still have six years until your sixteenth birthday the day you will commit yourself to our Alpha. There is no other option, I just thought I would inform you of your fate." His cold voice breaks my heart as I fall to my knees. "And Isabelle," I look up hope evident in my eyes. "If you ever yell or raise your voice at me again there will be serious consequences."

"At the t-time I couldn't ever imagine w-what those c-c-consequences would b-be." I stutter holding back tears, little had I known the next four years of my life would be the worst. "W-what about you?" I ask not giving Xavier the chance to respond with pity.

"Me?" Xavier says as if snapping out of a trance.

"W-who are you? W-what are you d-doing here? H-how do you know me?" I ask shlyly partly expecting to be slapped partly expecting to be laughed at.

Instead Xavier gives me an odd look, "you really don't know anything, do you?"

I shake my head confused, is there something I'm meant to know?
