"YOU ARE USELESS!"

"I HATE YOU!"

"YOU DON'T DESERVE A MATE!"

My father continues to yell landing blow after blow on my stomach. The pain makes me double over. We're still outside of school, translation; I'm not allowed to scream. On the off chance someone took interest in my blood curling screams my lips are taped. My hands bound, I am my fathers very own living, breathing, punching bag.

"You don't even deserve a name." He sneers at me fists flying.

One; his fist connects with my stomach.

Two; his foot hits my thigh.

Three; he throws me to the ground.

Four; he pulls out a knife.

Five; the knife penetrates my skin.

Six; he spits on my head.

Seven; he walks away knife in hand.

I look up watching my father's fading figure. It was the same thing every beating, seven beats. The knife only ever made flesh wounds enough to scar but not enough to kill or render me in hospital.

Leaning against the wall I clutch my stomach the same questions running through my mind.

If no one wants me to be Luna why would I be chosen?

Why am I to be Luna?

I stumble forward coughing blood as I re-enter the school gates. It's useless going to class now so instead I wander towards the library.

Unlike any other place in the school no one taunts me in the library, yells, spits, kicks, or laughs. The elders of all three packs take turns looking after it and they find no joy in laughing at a weak Omega. Instead they're surprisingly friendly, even to someone like me.

"Isabelle what can I do for you?" Genevieve asks a smile plastered onto her wrinkled face.

"I-I'm just here t-to s-sit down." I stutter crawling past the front desk.

The library itself is a decent size, filled from floor to ceiling with books. They start with common genres like fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, teen fiction, adult fiction, non-fiction and so on. In the far side are history books, filled with all the secrets of supernatural world if only one knows where to look. As the Omega I was banned from the section but as the future Luna I have now been granted access.

So far I haven't had time to take advantage of the little privileges I have been given as the future Luna.

Somehow I manage to limp towards the supernatural history section leaning against the shelves in a weak attempt to support myself. I end up sprawled on the floor hidden underneath masses of books. Weakly I push the books off my bruised body barely managing to sitting up.

"Is everything alright over there?" I hear Genevieve call from the front.

"Y-Yes it's f-fine." I say guilt swelling inside of me, I lied to an elder and for what? A few outdated books?

My eyes scan over the titles, 'A Guide to Being a Rogue,' 'Everything You Need to Know About Hunters,' 'Silver: What are the Dangers?' and 'A Beginners Guide to Supernatural Hierarchy.'

Despite never being able to take werewolf classes I have always attended school like everyone else. My parents; especially my mother had been against the idea at first but when they realised how much time I would be spending at school and not in their presence no one could change their mind. I've always worked hard at school; it never did impress my parents but it did mean my love for literature grew. I read all the classics, every year, the most beautiful love stories, reading about humans falling in love is a truly tragic affair.

Reaching down I pick up 'A Beginners Guide to Supernatural Hierarchy.' The book itself was well worn and covered in dust, it looked as though no one had bothered reading it in over 20 years. Brushing off the dust I flip the book open to a random page.

Werewolf Packs

Werewolf packs consist of a very strict hierarchy. At the very top sits the Alpha and his mate, the Alpha female or Luna. The only pack members who rival them are the elders who guide the pack with their wisdom and greater knowledge.

An Alpha is the leader of a group of werewolves or 'pack.' They are born into the position; it is impossible for someone without 'Alpha blood' to run a pack. Alpha's are in charge of all their pack members, it is their duty to protect the pack from threats such as, hunters, or rogues. They are also in charge of everyone within their territory at any time. The safety of all pack members depends on their Alpha.

A Luna is the Alpha's equal, their other half, their mate. A Luna's main duty in a pack is to make sure all the pack members are clothed, fed and well cared for. While they do have some involvement in political movements the pack may be making their primary duty is to directly attend to all pack members equally. While Luna's gain their position through mating they to must possess 'Luna blood' in order to run the back properly. Without this the Luna will be close to useless.

Below the Alpha and Luna are the Betas these are the Alpha's second in command and most trusted pack member aside from their mate.

A Betas primary duty is to attend to anything and everything asked of them by their Alpha. They show incredible skill in fighting and overlook business such as boarder patrol and tracking down Rogue's on the territory. Whenever the Alpha is away they are able to step up. The majority of Betas are born into the position and possess 'Beta blood' however there are a handful who have either won the position or been offered it by their Alpha due to their extraordinary loyalty towards the pack and the Alpha.

Equal to the Beta is the Beta female who is the Beta's mate. She works closely with the Luna protecting her and helping her care for her pack. The Beta female reports to the Luna and is her most trusted friend.

"Omega!" I look up dropping the book in surprise.

"Y-Yes." I reply loudly looking around in confusion, there isn't anyone in sight.

"What are you doing here? And in the restricted section?" The voice becomes louder and my brain clicks, it's my mother.

"I'm u-um r-reading," I reply lamely.

"What is it you're reading?" My mother asks snatching the fallen book up off the floor. Her tall figure looms over me, "A Beginners Guide to Supernatural Hierarchy." Looking down her nose my mother points her finger accusingly, "what could you possibly need to know about this?"

"I w-was u-um r-reading about L-Luna's."

"About what?" My mother growls at me bending down so our eyes meet.

"L-Luna's."

Grabbing my arm my mother yells in my ear, "get up."

Doing as I'm told I rise slowly careful not to move my stomach.

"You are never to read about Luna's again."

I stare wide-eyed and confused into my mother's eyes.

"Do you understand Isabelle?" She spits my name and I feel my heart quicken. It's been so long since I've heard her say my name.

Plucking up the courage I spit back, "w-why?"

"Because I said so."

"B-."

"Do you understand me?" My mother asks through gritted teeth her grip on my arm tightening.

"Y-Yes."

"Good, be in my office first thing tomorrow."

My heart sinks, she's mad. Really mad.

Slowly I start to push my way out of the mound of books that had fallen over me, "this is where you've been hiding." I jump slightly my eyes scanning over whoever dared talk to me.

"I-I'm s-sorry?" I ask weakly unsure of what a traditional response would be.

"Don't be." The boy says dismissively reaching down to help me out from the under the avalanche of books. I watch him carefully flinching at his touch, "I'm not going to hurt you." He reassures his hand still sitting on the small of my back.

I fidget moving away from his touch, "h-have we m-met?" I ask allowing the surprise to creep into my voice. It's not everyday someone talks to me, in fact it's never happened.

"I'm in your supernatural history class." I look up, my eyes meeting his, they do seem oddly familiar maybe I've seen them somewhere before?

"W-who are y-you?" I murmur quietly almost afraid he will hear me.

Once again I underestimate the enhanced hearing that most werewolves possess.

"Jake, Jake Dreamware."

Just like that my body tenses, did he just say Dreamware? As in son of Johnson Dreamware as in Alpha of the Blue Shade Pack.

Instinctively I take a step back tripping over my own feet before almost  face planting. I open my eyes only to find the ground a millimetre from my face.

"Careful." Jake says propping me back up an amused twinkle in his eyes.

"S-sorry I just got ummm y-your father is an A-Alpha." I whisper the last bit keeping my eyes trained on the ground.

"You're not as un-educated as they say." Jake replies thoughtfully, provoking my curiosity.

"W-who says?" I trip over my words turning a bright shade of red.

"Just people." Jake replies vaguely and after taking one look at my stature continues on mercilessly, "gossip is just a tool  to distract people who have nothing better to do from feeling jealous of those few of us still remaining with noble hearts."

I look up quizzically, "you've read Splendor?"

It's Jakes turn to blush as he looks away, "not me but my sisters been obsessed with them since they came out. I could practically recite the monologue from the whole book."

His words force a tiny smile onto my face, Splendor being one of my favourite books I always thought more people should've been reading it.

"B-but I neither have a n-noble heart nor a reason t-to make p-people jealous of m-me." I say mostly to myself while the quote holds weight it is not meant for a girl in my predicament.

"I think you have both." Jake says recovering from his former embarrassment, his dark eyes boring into my soul.

"Y-you must be m-mistaking me w-with s-someone else." I stutter turning away, this conversation just went from purely platonic to something I can't even put my finger on.

Before I can go anywhere his hand grabs my wrist rendering me motionless from shock. "Please Isabelle, hear me out?" I gather my strength ready to run out of the library but something in his voice stops me, something familiar in his tone convinces me to look his way.

"I'll h-hear you o-out, b-but please s-stop touching m-me." I say looking anywhere but him.

"Thank you." Jake says relief washing through his voice, he drops my hand before leading me over to a table.

"There has been a lot of talk going around the school about you being chosen to become the new Luna of The Dark Sky Pack many believe this is to be a risk to the well-being of the pack. This includes staff members they are clueless to what anyone let alone an Alpha would see in you." Jake pauses for a moment studying my face.

"W-why a-are you telling me t-this?" I ask quietly not that I had much confidence in my abilities to start with but hearing Jake's words aren't investing any faith.

"The reason that they feel that way is because they don't have 'Alpha Blood.' You see Isabelle you are remarkable." I shift uncomfortably under Jake's gaze, surely this must be some sort of twisted prank? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that someone like Jake who is not only the Alpha's son but also an absolute heartthrob, he is the living, breathing, boy of every girls dreams.

"You're lying." I manage without one stutter my eyes meeting his, "the Alpha chose me because his pack is falling apart he desperately needs a Luna and my father's the Beta I guess." I say with a shrug my head spinning with warnings but for once I ignore it. I ignore the fact that talking to a-soon-to-be Alpha this way will come back to bite me in the ass, I ignore the fact that I have temporarily suspended my stuttering and finally I ignore that way Jake is looking at me, watching me as if I am the answer to everything.

"I'm no one special, just another omega." I finish biting down on my tongue.

"That whole time you were talking you didn't stutter once." Jake says a soft smile playing on his lips.

"What's your point? You've never spoken to me before today how would you know when I stutter and don't stutter?" I cross my arms defiantly, for the first time in my life I'm standing up for myself.

Jake throws his head back a hearty laugh escaping his throat, "you are the most oblivious person I have ever meet."

"What?" I repeat my patience wearing thin, unfortunately my annoyance only seems to amuse Jake further.

"The reason why people are so doubtful of you being a good Luna is because all they see is a scared little girl, who can't utter two words without stuttering, the one who has never stood up for herself or anyone else, the girl who sits at the back of the room, never raises her hand and is more invisible than air. That's what they see." He looks at me all amusement drained from his eyes, "but this" he gestures to me, "straight back, wide eyes and assertive tone, this is really you."

I open my mouth to respond but I can't, because he's right.

"How did yo-?"

"I'm an Alpha Isabelle and it's my job to be looking for Luna's." Jake says with a smile rising to his full height and turning away.

"So that's it then?" I say to his back, "you watch me, stalk me, then give me some half-assed answer through a coded language and walk off?" I say my hands shaking, did I just say that to a guy who has the power to make school my worst nightmare?

Jake turns back around to face me and I clamp my mouth shut. "I'll see you tomorrow Isabelle."

YAY A LONG UPDATE FOR ONCE WOOHOO!!! AND A SUPER LONG AUTHOURS NOTE EXPLAINING A FEW THINGS SO READ IF YOU DARE :D

If any of you guys were wondering the reason why there appear to be quite a few kind of boring chapters is because they aren't 'filler' chapters as such but more of a 'setting the scene' kind of thing. There can't be action in every chapter but if you read carefully there are some crucial details mentioned that will become pivotol towards the story line they just haven't come into play is all.

I know alot of you guys may of read many other 'werewolf' novels so are probably well educated in the werewolf world, however all the information about the world Isabelle is living in serves a purpose.

one; it helps first time werewolf readers

two; it creates a world, that Isabelle is living in and not just a world but one through her eyes. All of you amazing readers find everything out about the world at the same time Isabelle does. That's what I love about this story and I really hope you're all enjoying it so far!

I just wanted to add that in case there was any confusion or if you guys were getting a tad bored, because I presonally read a lot here on wattpad and a lot of the stories start straight into the action and I love those stories but isn't one so please be patient it will get better :)
