Chapter 14: I have her...

The Healer's Mate

Chapter 14: I have her...

Jayden's POV

I dropped Kegan when I saw Kate open the door and walk in. She gasped and I saw her eyes glazed over from a mind link. I kept my attention on Kegan who was on his hands and knees taking deep breathes.

"How could you?" Kate said walking up to Kegan. "That girl has been through hell and back, you have no right to talk to her in the manner you did just now. I am ashamed of you." Kate's eyes held a sadness and anger that was directed at him.

"She doesn't belong here. She is wea─" he began but Kate slapped him. The room fell into a dead silence.

"That girl accepted you as her brother. Her parents were killed in front of her by hunters. If you want to talk strength, Layla is much more stronger and powerful than you will ever be,"

"What came over you today? Why did you hit her?" Alpha Neal asked. Kate's eye bulged out from hearing this but he raised his hand to calm her. "And if your answer isn't that you had a muscle spasm and you slipped. You son are in a hell of a lot of trouble."

"I hit her because she won't be in this pack for much longer. We don't need her." Kegan said facing his father.

"And who gave you the right to make this decision?" Alpha Neal said keeping his voice neutral and clear of any emotions. But his eyes and posture lied. He was furious.

"The pack made a decision two years ago." He said looking at me. Daring me to oust him.

"What are you talking abo─"

"Pardon me for interrupting Alpha," I said looking at Kegan, "but I would like to shed some light on to this situation."

"Speak if you know anything." Alpha Neal said going around to lean back on what remained of his desk.

I gave Kegan one last look and turned to Alpha Neal, "Three years ago Layla was supposed to shift but as you know she did not. Her brothers, Tony and Andrew did. She was sad because she did not have a wolf but instead of consoling their sister, your sons made her into an outcast in her own pack. They bullied and emotionally tortured a young girl who was going through the toughest stage in life and broke her from the inside out!"

"We thought it was a stage." Kate whispered from behind and I saw tears slipping down her cheek. "I ignored her when she would lock herself in her room. I thought it was hormones." She placed a hand over her mouth and silently sobbed.

Alpha Neal looked at his mate with pain, "Kate, can you please go to Layla's room and stay with her?"

She left the office and I continued. He had to know the whole truth.

"You asked before what came over Kegan to hit her today." I said and stared dead straight into his eyes.

"It wasn't the first time he hit her, so it wasn't hard to do it again. When you began to treat her like a daughter and care for her, your son got jealous and hit her, repeatedly, to remind her that he was stronger, more powerful, and her future Alpha." I stalked up to Kegan and matched his gaze. I felt a growl resonate through my chest and continued.

"He left scars on her back. Long marks running from her shoulders down. The whole pack joined in. She became the pack target for pranks, name calling, and constant bullying in high school. But oh no he didn't stop there. When she developed her healing ability, the physical abuse got worse because she could just heal herself and problem solved. She lives a shell of a life. Finding her mate was the only escape she saw and the only thing she desired. He tried to take that away too."

I finished and looked at Alpha Neal. He walked over to Kegan and said, "You are no longer a part of the Alpha family. You are only a pack member to me. Now get out of my office."

Kegan limbed towards the door when it flew open a second time for the night.

"She is gone. Th-there was a n-note." Kate said holding it out in trembling hands.

I have her.

Layla's POV

I woke from the sound of footsteps approaching me. I was laying on my back on a cold surface. The room I was held in was pitch dark and I couldn't make out my surroundings. I tried to get up but my hands and legs were bound down by rope. I heard the a door knob turn and light flooded the room. A man walked inside and flicked the lights on.

I shielded my eyes but when they adjusted to the light I took in what was around me. The room looked like a cellar with pipes running along the roof and cement walls. There were tube lights fixed within the gaps of the pipes illuminating the room. There weren't any windows and there was only one door. I was tied down to a cement table with my arms outstretched on either side of me. I pulled on the ropes but they burned my wrists.

"I see you're awake." The man said in his raspy voice the same from the night at the club.

"What do you want with me?" I said turning my head to look at him.

What I saw scared me. He had three long claw marks running down from his right eye to his chin. He was a werewolf no doubt. His shoulders were wide and his body screamed dangerous.

"You are going to help me with a problem I had with your parents." he said and walked around to the table. He stood beside it and looked down at me.

"You see Layla, your parents were special." he began and placed a hand on my head and brushed my hair back as if he was petting a cat. I moved my head out of his hand and glared at him.

"Aw feisty. Just like your mother." He said placing his hands into his pocket.

"Get to the point."

I watched him walk around the room. He leaned back on the wall and began,

"Your parents weren't werewolves. They were shifters."

What?

He continued, ignoring the confusion on my face, "Shifter are a rare race of beings that take the form of a wolf but do not possess a wolf spirit. They are simply beings that can shift, thus shifters. Your mother and father were very powerful shifters who had special abilities. Your mother was a sorcerer and your father a healer."

I gasped hearing that my mother and father had abilities as well.

I inherited my ability from my father.

"I searched all across the world to find a shifter. And just my luck I found a family of them. I wanted to harness their power. I wanted to take it for myself. And I would have done it if not for your stupid mother."

He stopped pacing and spun around to look at me. "Your mother placed a curse on me. She blocked my wolf preventing me from shifting. I thought I would break the curse if I killed her but she was smarter than I thought."

"She didn't curse me in her name. She placed that curse from her blood." I allowed his words to sink in and I was beginning to piece together his motives.

"Since you are her only child her 'blood' ends with you."

"That's why you need me." I said realising where this was going,

"You need to kill me."

"Oh! You make it sound so evil." He said walking towards me and leaning down until he was an inch away from my face.

"I need to sacrifice your blood to the soil of which I came and will go when my time comes."

I smirked feeling courageous and wanting to put a fight before he tried anything else.

"And you think that my mate will allow you to sacrifice me? He won't even give you the chance to touch me let alone hurt me." I laughed. I struck a nerve because his face turned stone cold and he pulled out a knife from his back pocket.

"Wanna bet on that?" He asked tracing my neck with the tip of the blade.

I looked straight in his eyes and said, "Try it. I'll just heal."

"Let's see and in the mean time I can collect your blood for the binding ceremony." he smirked and without a second thought her cut my arm. The cement table was set up like an altar and around it were groves made into the ground enclosing it in a circle carved around me. My blood began to drop into the grove and paint the pattern red.

"Like I said, shifters are rare and I am going to strip you of your healing ability before I kil─ sorry sacrifice you." he smiled and walked around to the other side and slit my other arm. I clenched jaw and shut my eyes tight. I tried to stop the bleeding but without my hands being able to touch the cut I couldn't use my ability.

"No point in trying. The knife is made from a hunter's blade. You can't heal." he said and walked to the door. He shut the lights off and the room fell back into the same darkness.

Jayden's POV

"There is a psycho killer after my daughter and you are telling me NOW!" Alpha Neal yelled. "I am calling a pack meeting we have to get her back!"

I finished telling him about the man who attacked Layla when she was staying at my pack. I told him everything I knew and that Alpha Cairstay was looking into him back home as well.

"Jayden I need you to tell your father of Layla being your mate and ask if it's possible to cash in the favour he owes me now. I know its early and you just came out of your own war but I don't want to risk anything." Alpha Neal said.

"I'll call him but I think I have a better idea." I said smirking.

"What idea? Don't be cryptic. We don't have that luxury, every second counts." Alpha Neal said.

"I once told you I am still the Alpha for the Shadows. Trust me." I said and turned to leave.

A/N Like I said in a previous note I was only going to write Jayden's POV when I really needed to. I thought it seemed fit to add in a little on Jayden and the pack while after Layla was kidnapped.
