Chapter 6: Mate...

The Healer's Mate

Chapter 6: Mate...

Beth had shown me to a room on the second floor and Alpha Neal had dropped by to tell me that the Shadows had attacked the Black Moon Pack on their run and Richard, the Shadow's Alpha, had lured Iris and Damon who were the prophesized mates away from the rest of the pack. He asked me to head down to the basement at two in the afternoon because I might be needed to heal Alpha Cairstay's son.

It was morning and breakfast was brought to my room as per Alpha Neal's request. Over the years Neal had learnt that large groups and that too being large groups of unknown werewolves set me on edge.

I stayed in my room until I heard the main floor clear out and I decided to take my dishes down. I walked down the stairs and saw a few pack children piled into the living room all focussed on the TV. I remember when that use to be me, Tony, and Andrew. Tony and Andrew would always fight over what to watch and I would just pick the channel while they argued. By the time they noticed their shows would be over and they would be stuck watching any girl sitcom that was on.

I smiled at that memory and placed my dishes in the sink. The buzzing feeling had remained with me throughout the day and I had this mental urge to go downstairs into the training room. I heard someone coming down the stairs and turned to see a girl and boy possible a year younger than me entering the kitchen. They stopped when they saw me.

"Hi, I'm Alexis Hunter, the Beta's daughter. This is my mate, Jared." the girl said smiling and looking over her shoulder to the boy. He gave me a slight nod of the head and carried on walking to the fridge. He pulled out a yogurt cup and kissed her cheek before he left.

"I'm Layla, Alpha Neal's daughter." I said and placed my plate down.

She nodded and leaned back on the island. A second passed when she yell.

"HEY!" I turned around stunned, "I know you! You're that healer from the White Thorn Pack!" she pushed herself off the island and grabbed my shoulder turning me around to see my face. I flinched from her strong grip and seeing this she let go.

"Sorry. It's just the pack has been doing nothing but talk about you. Plus Drew, my brother, was one of the wolves you healed yesterday so I was just a little excited to meet you." She said stepping away from me.

"It's okay." I whispered.

We continued to talk in the kitchen, well she did all the talking while I just stood there listening. I found that she and Iris Winters were best friends and both were a year younger than me. She spoke about her ambition to become a fashion designer and how she wanted to design clothes for the top names in Hollywood. Her voice and demeanour showed true confidence and independence. I envied her but I could also see she had a pure heart.

After talking to Alexis I wandered outside and decided to take a walk in the forest. Being amongst the trees always cleared my mind, which was what I needed the most. I came across a huge tree, whose roots had created an illusion of fingers, outstretched in the soil. I climbed over the roots and sat down leaning against the massive trunk. I closed my eyes and focused on the sounds around me.

Crack

I heard a twig break and looked around expecting someone to emerge from the tree line. When I didn't hear anything else I closed my eyes and remained seated on the tree trunk.

I was thinking about the wolves who were praising my skills when I felt a hand wrap around my mouth. I screamed and kicked scratching at the hands on my mouth.

"Grab her arms and legs. Ugh! Hurry before someone comes!" I heard Josh's voice.

I screamed louder hoping someone from the Black Moon Pack would hear me. I felt hands hold my legs and arms in place and my kidnappers began to carry me deeper into the forest. They threw me on the ground once they came into a clearing sealed off by the trees.

"There is talk about you back in the pack house. Many of the Black Moon wolves are praising your skills and kind heart." Josh said walking closer to me. He crouched down in from of me and I could see a blade in his hand. I crawled back trying to get far from him but he grabbed my ankle and pulled me back against the ground.

"I was told to remind you of your place by Kegan. He sent you a gift as well." Josh said grabbing my hand. He ran the blade against the inside of my little finger cutting the skin along the entire length.

"You are a waste of life. Remember that."

I wrapped my hand around my finger stopping the bleeding. My tears were running down my cheeks when Josh and his friends left.

I watched the bleeding stop and the cut sealed close leaving no trace of what just happened.

Who was I trying to fool? These two weeks would change nothing.

I brushed the dirt off from my clothes and cleaned my face and arms when I got back to the pack house. By the time I had changed and cleaned up it was time to meet Alpha Neal and Alpha Cairstay. I walked downstairs and saw that most of the training room had been cleaned out. I met Alpha Neal and together we walked over to the room I had noticed last night.

I saw Damon and Iris walking out of the room. I greeted them and they left the training room. I turned to Alpha Neal seeing his eyes holding worry and concern for something.

(Spoiler Alert! If you haven't read No Distractions The Black Moon Legend the next few lines will reveal the ending.)

"The insider was Alpha Cairstay's eldest son, Jayden Cairstay. When Herold found his mate, Vivian, she had a son who he brought back to the pack. Jayden was two at the time and Vivian did not know who his father was because she was being kept by the Shadows. His father was the Shadow's Alpha, making him their future Alpha. Iris was able to save Jayden from his wolf who was corrupting him, but now he is very weak and has lost his wolf. It is unknown whether he will be human or something like you."

Alpha Neal looked at me, searching my eyes for a response.

"Why do you need me?" I asked.

"Alpha Cairstay has decided that his punishment for his betrayal will be to live a life of a werewolf without a wolf. And I was told to ask you to help his healing and then move him to his room upstairs. Also I wanted you to maybe help him with this process. I believe it wasn't out of his own free will that he made the decision he made. His wolf clouded his choices." Alpha Neal said looking at the closed door behind me.

"I'll leave you to it then. Help him heal and move him to his room."

I nodded and he went back upstairs to meet with the rest of the wolves from the pack.

I slowly opened the door and looked inside. He was laying on his back with a blanket pulled up to his waist. I could see some of the bruises along his collar bone and cheeks. I stepped in and closed the door behind me. I heard him move behind me and the most amazing pine tree and earthy scent engulfed my senses. The buzzing inside of me had grown to a numb feeling and I could feel my mind willing my legs to go towards him.

I turned around and without meeting his eyes I said, "Hi, I'm Layla. I was told to heal you and then have you move to your room."

I walked towards him and it took all my energy not to run and fling himself at him. All my senses were heightened and I could hear his breathing change when I stood by his bed.

"Can you roll up your sleeve?" I said feeling stupid at my question.

I saw the black and blue bruising along his elbow and bicep. He was well built but not bulky, he was lean.

I placed my hand on his arm and I felt a bolt of electricity coursing between us. I looked up and met his shocked expression. His eyes were a beautiful grey green colour.

"Mate"

I felt myself saying the one word I thought I would never say.

"Well I guess I'm not entirely human. Let's see what you can do, Layla." Jayden said.

I focused on his arm and began working. Every time I would touch him I felt my core heat up and my breathing would hitch before the warmth from my hands would take over. I saw the bruises begin to disappear as I worked my way over to the other side of the bed.

"Do you feel any pain under your bandages?" I asked in a whisper.

He smirked and said, "It hurts, a lot." his voice had become deeper and sent a shiver through my body awakening a deep need for this man in front of me.

"W-where?" I stuttered under his stare.

He smirked and sat up. Not once breaking eye contact he pulled his shirt over his head exposing his bandaged chest.

"Work your magic babe." he said now sitting on the edge of the bed with his legs on either side of my hips.

I slowly unwrapped his shoulder and ever so often he would move to help guide the dressing around and wince at the pain. I placed the gauze on the bed and saw three claw marks running from his shoulder to his pectoral. I looked at his face and saw that his eyes were closed and his jaw was clenched from the pain.

Without realizing I placed my hand on his cheek and ran my thumb along his cheek bone. His eyes shot open and brought he his hand over my own.

"Just look at me and try not to focus too much on your injury. If it hurts just breath or grab my hand to tell me to take a break." I said giving him an encouraging smile.

He nodded and dropped his hand on his lap. I stepped closer to him and was now standing between his legs. I could feel the heat from our bodies when he said, "Ready when you are."

I placed my hand on his shoulder where it was partly healed. I felt Jayden flinch but he remained in place. I moved my hand down to his right pectoral and I felt him place his hand on my hip.

I stopped and looked at him.

There were small beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

"I guess I'm not as strong as I was with my wolf." He took in a deep breath and nodded signalling me to continue.

I placed my hand back on his chest and lightly pressed down. He hissed and placed his other hand on my waist. I was pulling away when he drew me in closer and said through his clenched teeth, "don't stop."

I gulped and continued. His breath was fanning my face and his minty scent clouding my thoughts. I began to think about how it would feel to trace my lips against his chiselled jaw and kiss those soft lips, slowly bringing my hands to his hai─

"AH!" Jayden groaned in pain and my thought returned to myself. I lost focus from visualizing his wounds.

I hurt him.

He pulled me closer to him and brought his arms around my waist. He had his face buried in my neck and I could feel sense his pain.

"I'm so sorry Jayden. I started thinking about something else!" I said apologising hoping he would forgive me.

He looked up and brought me closer to him. My legs were against the side of the bed and he had me trapped in his hold around my waist.

"Let's try one more time." he said and since his hold on me prevented me from moving back I angled myself so I my side was pressed against his. I placed my hand back on his chest and focused on the wound and not how his muscles tightened and how his arm was dangerously low on my waist.

I felt him relax and I ran my hand along the pink lines that now decorated his chest. I turned my head to the side and I saw that his eyes had changed to a darker grey.

"You're amazing." he said in hushed whisper and leaned forward.

A/N Jayden! YEAH! WOO! lol :D Sorry for the long wait. I had to go back to No Distractions TBML and do some research on Jayden before I wrote this. Its my pet peeve when I see a character mistake or scene mistake in spin off stories. So I hope for those who read No Distractions felt that this cross over chapter was well blended between the two stories!
