CHAPTER XIX

It was the morning of his birthday, and Dev was laying in bed with Thi, just wishing that he could spend as much time as possible like that - hugging his boyfriend while dreaming wonderful things. But the alarm on Thi's phone rang. They had to wake up to receptionate the people with the decorations for the party at noon. And there were also the people from the buffet, and the bar, and the patisserie and... There were too many people for a simple party in the garden. At least that is how it started. Twenty of their friends in a small gathering. But 20 soon became 30, and then 40, and soon it was 70. It included people from work, actors and actresses, directors and other public figures, the parents and the kids from Collin and Killian's pre-school, and others. Dev understood the effort Thi put on the party, and that it was all so that he could enjoy the love of other people on this special day. But, deep down, he knew that all he wanted was to spend the day with his family and maybe his closest friends. It also worried him the effort that Thi put on this party and how much that should have stressed him. Many times he asked him if he needed help, and tried to decrease his workload, but Thi always said that it was alright and that he was enjoying planning the event.

"Can we turn off the alarm and wait fifteen more minutes?", Dev asked as Thi was getting up.

"If you want, you can stay a little longer. But at least one of us needs to be downstairs to welcome them".

"I don't want to be alone in our bed. I'd rather get up and stay with you", he said as he hugged Thi from the back, not letting him go.

"So get up, and let me go".

"It's my birthday. Just stay five more minutes. They can wait a little". Thi looked back at Dev, who was using his best lost puppy face, and kissed him, biting his underlip gently.

"Honey, I need to go. I really wished I could stay with you, but I can't". He kissed him again. "But I promise to compensate you tonight" He kissed him again. "I got something just for you as a birthday gift, something you'd like a lot". He kissed him one last time. "Now go back to sleep and dream with me. Because I'll spend the day thinking about you".

"You really like to tease me, hubby". Dev said, hugging Thi one last time. "You're lucky that I'm still too sleepy to do anything, because you're damn hot".

"Well, look who's talking mr. Eight Pack". Thi laughed. "Now let me go".

"Okay", he grumbled and rolled in bed becoming a giant caterpillar. Thi kissed him on the head and went to greet the personnel.

The party preparation went on and Thi led everyone. Half an hour after Thi left the bed, Dev got up and went to prepare breakfast. After he made some waffles and some fruit smoothies, he went to call the kids. Collin went downstairs running, while Killian had to be carried down half-asleep.

"Jesse! Jesse!" Collin called as he went downstairs, looking for the dog. The mutt came and laid down by Collin's feet asking for belly rubs. Collin promptly gave it to him, and the dog wiggled happily.

"Collin, go wash your hands, again".

"Why?" he asked, crying.

"You played with the dog. You need to wash your hands".

"Ok", he said sadly.

"And no playing with the dog after washing your hands".

"Why?"

"Because the dog is dirty. And you can't eat with your hands dirty".

"Alright", he said sadly again.

After Collin washed his hands, he put both of them in their chairs, and started to prepare some coffee for him and Thi, and some extra for the workers. The kids finished eating breakfast and he took them down. He grabbed a waffle and a cup of coffee, and went to the yard to give them to Thi so he could eat while working. Then, he brought a big thermos bottle with coffee for the workers. While the kids played next to him, he ate breakfast. Soon, Ms. K arrived to take care of the kids and he went to try and help Thi with the organization, but he refused. However, Dev convinced him that he should let him at least stay with him, that was all he wanted for his birthday. Thi couldn't resist Dev's manipulation and let him stay and help him. After the buffet arrived, Dev became the official tester and tried out all the food to see if it was to his taste. When it was about 9h30 a.m., Dev rushed Thi to get ready. Luckily, they have Ms. K to help them with the twins, but it will all be for naught if they are not there to receive the guests.

"You look good", Thi said, hugging Dev from behind. "Almost as good as you look naked".

Dev was finishing getting dressed, when Thi appeared. He was wearing a white chemise that was tied in the neck and was a little transparent, and black trousers with social shoes.

"It's my hubby's birthday. And my hubby is really hot, and I wished I could do so many things with him right now", he said leaving a mark on Dev's neck.

"Don't ask me. Ask past Thi who made these decisions".

"Love, I really need to finish getting dressed. You organized all this party. We really shouldn't miss it". He said, grabbing Thi's hand.

"At least give me a kiss. I want a kiss from my hubby". Dev kissed him.

"Now, let's finish getting ready. The kids are already waiting for us".

"Ok", he said cutely.

They got downstairs where the twins were waiting sitting on the sofa. Collin was playing with an airplane and Killian was "reading" his dinosaur books.

"Kristin, you can go change your clothes and take a bath if you want. We will take care of the kids for a while".

"Thank you", she smiled. Collin insisted on playing with the dog and they both got dirty. They could see how she was uncomfortable showing up like that when all of them were well dressed and clean. After all, she was there not only as the kids' nanny, but a guest too. Someone who has been beside them for a long time and knew a lot about their family.

Soon, the guests started to arrive, and the party began. There were some stars that participated in Dev's movie and got close to him, some directors who worked with him or mentored him, parents from the kids' kindergarten - most of them barely knew anything about them, but were still decent people that they had good relations with. But there were still some people they were closer with.

"Closer and closer to thirty, ahn?", a woman with long black hair asked him.

"Nisa! You are the one to tell me how it is on the other side of 3.0".

Dev just turned twenty-nine, so he was really close to the mark. But not there yet.

"Is my wife teasing you too much?" Millaray, a woman with short black hair and golden brown skin.

"I'm not".

"She is not", Dev laughed.

Nisa, 33, and Millaray, 34, were amazing people and Dev and Thierry got close to them really fast. They had two kids: Ritter, 5, and Amaya, 3, who was in the same class as Killian and Collin. The kids would play together all the time and have many play dates. When they adopted Jesse, Ritter and Amaya were the first outside the family to meet the dog.

"Maya!", Collin and Killian came running and hugged the girl who was right behind her mother.

"Olli! Lian!", she called them.

"Why has no one called me?", Ritter said, sulking.

"Ritter!" The three kids exclaimed together, teasingly.

"I want to see Jesse!"Maya exclaimed.

"Dad put him in the kennel". Collin said sadly.

"Because he was anxious about the visitors. I didn't do it to hurt him", Dev said kneeling beside Collin.

"But Jesse doesn't like the kennel".

"Jesse has been gnawing a bone all this time. He is fine. But if you want, I can take you there to play with him for a while. Just don't let him out". He said, petting the boy's head.

"Honey, it's your party. I'll call the nanny to take them". Thierry said.

"Ant is right, you should enjoy the party", Nisa said. "It's your birthday, kiddo".

"And the food looks great", Mill said pointing at the buffet table. It was good to have friends who helped him put himself first.

"Okay, okay. You can call the nanny. I'm a little hungry - for food and for a good conversation with some friends".

"That is great".

After most people arrived, Dev got a microphone and thanked everyone who arrived there. That it was great to have them here on such a special day, and they were all special in their own way to his life. Thierry also gave a small speech.

"Thank you everyone. I've known Dev for ten years already, before he became the great director that everyone recognizes and adores. I have walked this path with him, falling in love with this amazing man and the wonderful family we have together. I wish I can spend twenty, thirty and even more years with him. To enjoy the beautiful moments, the harsh times, the peaceful aspects of daily life, and even the boredom on a rainy day. I want to love you and help you grow. "I promise to give you the moon, and any yacht you might want. So, please, be with me on all your birthdays to come". And he kissed him briefly, and hugged him.

"Now, the hosts would like to invite you all for a lunch buffet". The ceremonialist informed the guests, who formed a line for the buffet. Dev and Thierry just sat on their table with the twins, waiting for the line to shrink.

"Congratulations", Nate said approaching the table. Next to him, was Cael who was holding his hand, blushing as his boyfriend saluted the man of the day.

"Thank you". Dev answered. "It's good to see the two of you here. Thank you for coming".

"Thank you for inviting us".

"Happy birthday", Cael said, his face red. He still felt like an intruder in this party. But he also felt so happy. Those conflicting emotions made him feel embarrassed and he just held Nate's hand tightly and followed him everywhere.

"Thank you. I hope you enjoy the food and the ambiance".

"Thank you".

"It's a pity that Emile is still solving the stuff about moving to Bjuldr". Nate said.

"I can't believe he really decided to move to Bjuldr, and more than that to get married! It's really unbelievable that my big brother is getting married". Thi said.

"Yeah. He was always so childish and now he is talking about getting married and building a family".

"Yeah... He is finally growing up". Thi laughed.

"It seems so".

They talked a little bit more, and then left to join the queue for lunch. The kids, who were quiet entertained by some toys, started to complain.

"I'm hungry", Collin said, caressing his belly.

"I'm hungry too", Killian said, laying on Dev's lap. "Daddy, I want to eat".

"Alright, alright. I'll get your food". He caressed the boy's head. "But you have to get up first".

"Okay", he said, sulking, and got up.

Dev went and got the kid's food and brought it to them. Then he got his and Thierry's while Thi took care of the kids. They ate together, while taking care of the kids.The festivities continued throughout the afternoon. But Dev noticed that Thi was a little strange.

"It's just a headache. I will take something for it and it will get better", he would say. But He was still strange. The party was almost ending and people had started to leave, when he excused himself and went to his room to get something and never came back. At 18h30 (6h30 p.m.) the party ended, and all the personnel went away. He took the kids to their room and went to check on Thi again. When he opened the door, a strong odor hit him like a tsunami. He also sent their blankets and shoes. He gave them a quick bath and dressed them.

"Why are we getting dressed, daddy?", Killian asked.

"You're going to sleep in uncle Nate's house today". He said hurriedly, looking at the time.

"Why?"

"Because uncle Nate really wanted to spend the night with you. So mommy and daddy decided to let you sleep there".

"So we can play until late with him?" Collin asked.

"No, you should listen to your uncle and dad Cael and go to sleep early".

"Dad Cael will be there too?" Collin asked happily. But Killian looked sad and hugged Dev.

"I don't want to sleep somewhere else today. I want to sleep with mommy and daddy".

"Mommy and daddy can't sleep with you today. But I promise when you're back mommy and daddy will sleep the whole week with you, okay, baby?"

"No". Killian said, emphatically.

"Please, baby, understand. Mommy is not really well and he needs time to rest. That's the real reason why I'm sending you to uncle Nate and dad Cael. So, please, do this for mommy".

"Okay", Killian said, sulking.

A few minutes later, Nate arrived with Cael.
