Chapter 26: Chapter 26

The Moment to FightWords: 10743

Kiera

At this moment, we didn't look like two rival groups fighting to the death. No, we all looked banded together fighting for the same goal. Teamwork between unlikely allies.

With every swipe of its paw, the demon took out five Nephilim. It was impossible to distinguish between Rebels or non Rebels.

Nephilim flew above pelting the demon with their powers. I was fighting on the ground directing Nephilim where to be and not to be. I used my power to foresee the demon's actions.

"Move!" I yelled to a group of Neph to my side as the demon's scorpion tail slammed into the ground where they had just been standing.

"This isn't working," Declan said, coming up beside me.

"I know, but what can we do?"

He looked me in the eyes and said, "You need to fight. With me here, you can use any power you want. Be smart about it."

I nodded, facing the demon.

I materialized a giant dagger out of the earth. It was far too heavy for me to hold, so I levitated it off the ground. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to throw it.

"Everyone aim your powers at this dagger!" I yelled over the commotion.

The Nephilim stopped what they were doing to look at me. Then at the same time, they threw their powers at the dagger.

I recognized Justine's ice coating the blade and knew she must be here. Quinn's black goo covered the ice.

Then every other power latched onto the knife. Green slime oozed around it, blue and red flames danced across it.

"Grab onto the handle!" I yelled.

A large group of Nephilim flew in the air, grabbing the handle of the dagger.

"On three, launch it at the demon," I demanded.

"One."

"Two."

"Three!"

The impressive dagger soared right for the demon. It went so fast that the demon didn't have time to deflect it.

The powerful dagger sank into the massive demon's heart. It roared, clawing at the blade.

It's huge scorpion tail swung around, landing right on a Nephilim's chest. I heard a scream before they went silent. I couldn't tell who it was.

The demon fell backwards, demolishing the buildings behind it, simultaneously creating a crater larger than any Neph could make.

It dissolved in a sea of red ashes. They flew through the air, sprinkling our hair.

Nephilim everywhere were either dead or wounded. The remaining healthy Neph dropped to their sides to tend to their wounds. It didn't matter if it was a Rebel helping a non Rebel or vise versa. We were all one in the same.

We were all Nephilim.

Mei had gotten injured during the battle. I ran to his side were he was laying on top of rubble.

He was panting heavily, his hand pressed against his side. Blood oozed through his fingers. So much blood.

His pale face was whiter than his hair even though it was more red from the ashes.

Declan knelt beside him and ripped his shirt off. He had scratches all over his body and I hoped they were nothing major.

He tied the shredded shirt around Mei's abdomen. Within seconds, the shirt had soaked through with blood. I began to panic.

He bloody hand reached out and clasped mine.

"It's okay. I fought til the end, right? That's all I wanted. I know things are changing and will change for the better. I've done my job. I'm ready to see Kristi," Mei said and smiled. Then he passed out. I put my hand over his heart to make sure he was still alive.

"Declan, we have to do something," I cried.

"Move out of the way," an annoyed voice said.

I looked up to see a fierce Justine standing there with hands on her hips.

Declan quirked an eyebrow, then moved.

Justine sat at Mei's side, sprawling her fingers over his wound.

She froze the blood flowing out of him. Then she froze the wound completely shut.

"Why?" I asked.

"I hate to admit it," she said with her back to me, "but you guys are right. We are all Nephilim, we shouldn't be fighting each other. Now I finally realized what was going on behind our backs. And Kiera, you're probably the bravest one here. I want to see you change this place."

She turned around to look me in the eyes then. I just stared. She laughed.

Declan thanked Justine for saving Mei. She smiled sadly at him.

"Oh shit. Am I dead?" Mei mumbled, grabbing his head, "What are you guys doing here? Don't tell me you guys died, too. That wasn't part of the plan. You were supposed to let me go see Kristi, not tag along with me."

We all laughed at him.

"None of us are dead. Justine just saved your life," I explained.

He looked up at her and a deep blush stained his cheeks. She smiled broadly at him.

He put an arm behind his head to act cool or whatever. His gold eyes were bright.

Justine helped him to his feet as we all stood up.

The unharmed Nephilim gathered around us. One of them spoke.

"Listen, we all know an apology won't nearly cover it, but we're all sorry. We refused to look at the obvious. We were too caught up in ourselves to notice that what you said had truth to it. To make it up for the troubles we caused, we want to help with the next step of your plan. You're all different than we thought."

"That's the thing. We never were different from you guys. You've been brain washed by the Known Families. We have powers, just like you all do. Most of us, the original Rebels, have two powers which is why it took so long to develop them. The Known Families don't know that now, but they will. This all ends here. Right now.

"We've all fought just as hard as you guys to be here, if not harder. So many of us have died fighting for this cause. What you guys also don't realize is that the humans are also suffering. Their home isn't suitable to live in. I grew up believing I was human and all of the original Rebels were forced the live there also. Thrown away as if they were garbage.

"We are going to need all of your help," I concluded.

The Nephilim who had spoken, reached his hand out and shook mine. This was the beginning of our alliance.

Time to take down the Known Families.

Declan

We had suffered many casualties during that battle. Even so, there were still a lot of us still standing and ready to take on the Known Families.

Considering the fact that the Known Family Ward was unharmed in the middle of this war zone, meant that it would be the safest place to be at the moment.

Which also meant that all of the Descendants must be inside with the King and Queen.

We still didn't have everyone on our side. There were still more Neph against us than with us. This wouldn't be easy.

"Reinforcements are still coming. We were the closest at the time the Queen summoned us, so be prepared," Justine said.

As a single unit, we all stood around the Known Family's Ward. I raised my hand and flattened it against the shield protecting the entire property.

Each Nephilim copied my stance, placing their hands on the shield as well. Mei raised both hands.

Between all of us Nephilim, we were able to wrap around the entire front yard. It was truly a sight to see.

"Ready!" Mei yelled.

"Yeah!" We all shouted back.

The shield burst apart in a giant gust of wind. Everyone flew backwards, crashing to the ground.

"Yes!" Mei laughed.

The King and Queen yanked the slider door on their balcony open and stepped out.

"What have you done, you traitors!" The Queen screamed at the Guardians and Supporters who just sided with us.

"You will all die for this!" The King chorused.

That was when my parents joined the King and Queen on the balcony. They scanned the faces of the Nephilim in the front yard until landing on mine.

"Declan," my mother whispered.

My dad's knuckles whitened from clutching the balcony railing so tightly. The Second and Third Descendants had also joined with them.

"Surrender now and you will all be forgiven," the King said.

"Never," I said.

My mother gasped, raising her hand to her mouth. Her long black hair had streaks of gray at the temples that I hadn't noticed before.

The Nephilim had all gotten up and stood on the front lawn of the mansion, standing behind me.

"You have wronged everyone in the Sectors. Liars. All those Nephilim you exiled for not having a power? Well guess what. Not only do they have a power, they have two. They are far more superior than any of you will ever be.

"Don't just think the Nephilim are the only ones you have been ruining the lives of. What about the humans?" I said.

Kiera walked up next to me and said, "Because of all of you, I lived in the Gray Sector. I thought I was human. I was wrong. The conditions you force the humans to live under are unjust. They don't deserve it."

Mei spoke next.

"Lives were lost during this rebellion. We will not allow those deaths to be in vain. This is where your reign ends, and ours begins. Step down, or you will wish you never took the throne."

"Who are you to say such deceitful words? Have you forgotten who we are? You will not live to see the morning, I promise you that," the King spat.

"Reinforcements will be here any second. The girl with the green eyes will be the first to die. She caused this pointless war. The white haired boy will be next, followed by the rest of the Nephilim. And you, Declan, will be last. You will watch each of their deaths and bear the burden of the guilt," the King declared.

He was an evil Neph. I can't believe I never saw it before.

"Then I guess I have no choice," I said as I walked over to the staircase leading up to their balcony.

"Stop right there," the First Descendant commanded.

I ignored him and continued up the stairs.

All of them stood frozen. They wouldn't kill me.

Before they could reevaluate whether or not to actually kill me, I raised my hand like I had done to Kiera all those years ago.

"What-" the word died on my father's lips as his power source slipped away. I grasped it in my hand where it dissolved.

I raised both hands and stole each of their powers, dissolving each power source in my palm. They were powerless to stop me.

"You cannot call yourselves Nephilim. You are not one of us. You are pure evil. Your reign of lies has ended," I declared.

The former King, Queen, and Descendants gawked at me.

"Did you just.." The Queen struggled to form words.

"Yes. I took your powers for good. It's time to rebuild this place. We will make this world a better place to live in. Not just with Nephilim, but with humans. The Sector system will be demolished under our rule. The Trials are a thing of the past. We do not need The Trials to determine what job will be yours for the rest of your life. That will be your own decision," I spoke.

Kiera and Mei joined me on the balcony. The three of us turned our backs on the Evil Ones.

We stood above the loyal Nephilim.

"This is the beginning of the change," Kiera was saying.

Right then, hundreds of Guardians and Supporters swooped down from behind the mansion. They landed directly in front of our Nephilim and took battle stances.

"No, it's not," one of them said.
