Chapter#20
Her, To Home
He had planned to wake up early that day to make breakfast for O'Brian except his alarm didn't go off. No, his alarm probably did go off but his cellphone was dead when he woke up at 10 am. He was busy watching videos on how to make birthdays special and didn't realize that his battery was low enough to die somewhere in the middle of the night. When he had switched on his cellphone after charging it, he saw multiple missed calls and text messages from O'Brian which made him curse out loud. He dialed her number but even after many rings she didn't pick up which meant she was in class.
Still half asleep he went downstairs to see Drake playing video games in his underwear. He frowned and smacked his head.
"What?"
"Why didn't you wake me up?" Dean demanded while dropping himself beside Drake on the couch.
"Since when had it become my job to wake you up?"
"Since I didn't wake up for school." Dean snapped. He knew he was taking out his frustration on Drake but he wanted to wake O'Brian with some flirting and breaking fast.
"What crawled up your ass and died?" Drake asked, his eyes focused on the screen.
"It's Sara's birthday today." Dean murmured regretfully. Though he didn't care about him not being the first to wish her, he wanted to wake her up himself.
"It is? She is finally turning 18?" Drake asked with a whistle and smirk which made Dean smack him harder.
"Shut up, stop talking about your sister-in-law in such manner." A growl warned Drake who still looked ready to make another stupid remark but listening to his warning he laughed and asked, "Aren't you too cocky too soon?"
Dean just glared at him and sighed. He wanted to take her out for fancy dinner but consider O'Brian would just curse at him for waste money on food which didn't even fill her stomach he had asked Britney to prepare things at home for her. The brat liked simple things so he didn't want to push her onto something she wouldn't even enjoy. Her gifts were already prepared and delivered to Britney's closet. This time they had gone a bit out of hand but it had been a long time since he was able to celebrate her birthday with her so he got too excited.
Standing up he went back to his room and noticed his cellphone flashing. He quickly opened it and saw Sara's message which stated she was in class and where the hell was, he? Dean grinned at texted he would be coming in few minutes. After that he quickly jumped into the shower.
When he was done changing, he called Britney to ask if any help was needed. She simply sent him a list of things quiet bluntly which made him laugh.
When he reached the school, he texted Sara to come outside so they could ditch. He might not have enough time today to spend some alone time with her so he wanted to use this opportunity and play around with her.
Sara came out within few minutes but not to ditch school with him but to drag him inside.
"Baby, no. We are leaving." Dean refuse to come out of the car and tried to grab her from his window to kiss her 'good morning' but was easily smacked.
"I am not ditching school, Dean. Not again. And neither should you." O'Brian snapped; her angry eyes were seducing him into doing something stupid.
"O'Brian you have a busy day ahead. I want to spend some time alone with you on your birthday." He softly reminded her and once again tried to grab her. His words had probably surprised her because she let him touch her. He didn't push her forward to kiss her in case she loses the bit of mercy she was having on him and punch him in the face. He brushed her face with his fingers and smiled happily at her red cheeks.
She glared at him but still went to the other side to get in the car. He grinned widely at his victory and the second she sat down and closed the door, he saddled her and grabbed her lips with his, his one arm going around her lower back and other holding her head. His heart which had already been racing on her sight now tightened in his chest. Considering she was 18 now make the possessive and pervert part of his mind roam in impatience to strip her make her his but he had always been a reasonable person when it came to Sara's respect so of course he wasn't going to do anything rash but he wanted to take what he could at least.
He didn't deepen the kiss; he didn't want to stir himself in the school's parking lot. So, he just gently kissed her for a while and then jumped back on his seat while laughing like a child. O'Brian just sat there in shock for a long time so he simply started the engine and started driving towards a grocery store.
After few minutes when she finally got out of her daze she asked, "Where are we going?"
"Grocery shopping, my love." He replied while smiled softly at her.
"You wanted to spend time alone with me by doing grocery shopping?" She asked while tilting her head in confusion which made him want to crush her in his embrace.
"Did you have something else in mind, you naughty girl?" Dean wiggled his eyebrows and smirked wolfishly which earned him a bored look from Sara as if he was a donkey. Though he was insulted by such loud insult through single look, it never stopped him before so he was defiantly not going to stop now.
"I am fine anywhere as long as I have you with me." He continued to save some of his dignity which made Sara smile at him so adoringly that he couldn't help his next sentence, "But if you wanted to do something naughty you should have told me before, I didn't prepare any cond----" his words were interrupted by a sharp pinch on his thigh which just made the situation worse for him. He internally swore but decided for his own self to stay quiet.
When they arrived at the grocery shop, he easily pulled a cart and made O'Brian pull out his cellphone to take out the list Britney had sent. As they started walking around randomly, he felt his heart filling up with some deep happiness as if a burst of warmth was burning inside him making his mind fuzzy as if he was some happy pill.
Was this what their future will be like?
As he stared at O'Brian reading the ingredients on the back of salsa jar, an image flashed past his eyes, he was suddenly standing in future with an older version of himself and Sara who still looked as striking as she did now. With her hair in a messy bun, she was standing beside him arguing about the harmful ingredients in premade things. The picture was so pretty that he felt a tightness in his throat.
"......ean? Dean?"
He was back in present and saw the beautiful O'Brian looking at him in worry. He smiled at her slowly and watched as she confusingly smiled back at him.
"What were you thinking about?" She asked leaning towards him. He habitually pulled his arms around her waist and kissed her nose. Looking down on her wide eyes which was accepting his love so openly made him want to scream out loud to tell everyone how happy he was.
"About my future wife." He whispered in her ear and watched in delight at her blushing cheeks. She softly laughed and shook her head as if laughing at his ridiculousness.
"Yeah? Who might she be?" She asked with a cheeky smile.
"Sara Woodland." He easily replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world and watched as she stared at him with such bare eyes which were screaming how much she loved him. It took him once again by surprise like they had that day. He didn't why, but watching those eyes he was so used to loving dancing on the same love songs he used to hear just made it difficult for him to breathe. He wanted to believe her, wanted to assure himself that he was the only one who had right on Sara O'Brian's love but yet a part of him just refuse to believe that he deserved it.
But so, what if he didn't deserve it.
As long as he was the one who had right and ownership on her love, he could live well.
Before she could say anything to him the sound of his name made him froze. His hands surrounding O'Brian tightened. He slowly turned while still holding her to see his mother standing there, a forgotten shopping cart beside her filled with all kind of food. The pearls in her neck were still as tight as he always remembered.
"Dean? Sara?" She cried and rushed forward but Dean pushed Sara behind him as if to hide her from her. Her steps stopped in the middle as she stared wide eye at them.
"I told you stay away from us." Dean spit out, his figure trying to hide Sara away completely behind him.
"Dean, honey. Please listen to me. Just once." His mother pleaded; her voice as desperate as his was when he was begging his father to not kick him out.
"What more do you want to take away from me?" Dean demanded. He was trying not to shout. He wanted to shout at her to go away, to never appear in front of him again. But he knew they were in public; he knew that people were already watching. He didn't want either of those disgusting creatures who helped give birth to him ever appear in front of him again. He was afraid, so afraid that they might take Sara away from him. He was afraid they would make Sara realize that he wasn't good enough, that he had some dirty blood running in his veins. That he was born out of a sin.
"No, I don't want to take anything away. Sara...please ask hi----"
"Don't take her name from your filthy mouth." Dean snapped. A hand brushed his back softly and reminded that Sara was still there, still his, he tried to calm himself down.
"Dean please, I need you. Your little brother needs you." The woman cried; her one hand was on her stomach which Dean hadn't noticed before. His eyes slowly fell on her stomach. Though it wasn't obvious unless you actually look at it carefully, he could see the small bump there. A cold shiver ran down her spine. He watched in horror at the woman he once had called his mother.
"You need to come home to protect him. You need to make your father believe that he is his child! Please!"
Dean heart felt like it was breaking in pieces. He had believed he had stopped caring but wasn't this too cruel? He stood there trying to find a way to escape. Praying that the woman in front of him either shut up or just disappear but she was standing in front of him slowly stabbing him with her words.
"You are all grown now, you need to protect your mother. We need yo----"
The sound of a hard slap made him realize that his hands were empty behind him. He hadn't even noticed when O'Brian shake his hand off her and had moved to slap his mother right on the face but there she was, standing in front of him like an angry tigress who had her teeth bare. Her angry eyes which he so adored were glaring down at his mother.
"You disgusting pig!" She spit out and pushed her back into his chest, not to demand comfort but to provide a shield.
"How dare you think that he will come back to that house to protect a sorry excuse like you? Dean doesn't need the name attached to the blood flowing in him. He doesn't need you nor do you have any right to demand anything from him. Go back in your hell hole alone. Dean is mine." Her cold voice had surprised him. He had never really seen her angry. Not like this, never like this she was at the end of her patience. His arms went around her waist as he pulled her closer to his chest to accept her protection without being shameful.
"Sara..." The woman stared at his O'Brian in shock, her one hand holding her redden cheek. The tears in her eyes just fueled O'Brian's anger.
"Don't ruin our date with your ugly face." Sara warned her and after grabbing his hand from one hand and pushing the cart with other she dragged him away. He followed her while staring at the back of her head. When they had walked away a safe distance he stopped and pulled her to his chest, embracing her.
"Stop being so sexy." He mumbled in her neck, a helpless smile on his face.
"Nobody has right to demand anything from you except me." She declared hotly and he laughed while leaning back. Her mouth was also in a cheeky grin, the angry from before was gone like wind form her.
"Yes, my love." He accepted while kissing her hand.
They wasted a couple of hours looking at useless things and buying even more useless things. When they were done, they drove back to O'Brian's place where Britney was waiting for them with her hands on her hips. She glared at them when they entered the kitchen.
"You useless human beings." She snapped at them.
Sara quickly hides behind him and pushed him towards the angry woman. He just smiled charmingly, put down the shoppers and took her hands in his and coaxed her gently, "Show us mercy, mother-in-law."
Britney was surprised by his words but then laughed and gently slapped his cheeks. Her eyes shine in happiness as she looked at him and for him that was enough. Sara had been right; he already had a family. He already had everything right in this house.
"What a charming son-in-law I have." She said sweetly which made Dean blink his eyes as if trying to prove her that he was indeed charming.
"I didn't know you had asked Jamie to marry you." Sara's taunting voice made him turn to see her smiling but not really smiling. He could only open his mouth to try to coax her but found her continuing, "Unless it's Jamie who you asked, I don't see how you could dare to declare yourself this house's son-in-law you shameless pervert."
Dean looked at Britney for help who simply laughed and shrugged away his pleading eyes. He turned back to look at O'Brian.
"I am dating you with the thought of marriage, so I obviously become this house's son-in-law." Dean tried confidently force himself on her but she wasn't really buying his useless act.
She rolled her eyes and left the kitchen and he could only follow her like a love sick puppy. She simply ignored him and went to her room where she put down her bag and took off her snickers.
"Where is my birthday gift?" She suddenly asked while taking off her jacket but her eyes still wasn't looking at him.
"I prepared a lot!" He proudly stated and waited for her to praise him.
She turned to him and all he could do was wait for her to throw something at him but instead she walked towards him and took his hand pulling him to sit down on the bed. He decided to not make any remarks because she looked a bit serious for his useless jokes.
"This time can I ask something myself?" She asked after she kneeled on the floor between his legs, her eyes stared at his. They weren't as bare as he was used to seeing in them. Confused he could only nod slowly.
"Can you accept my name as yours?" She asked and Dean could only look more confused. She noticed that he didn't understand because she let go of his hand and opened the drawer of her side table and pulled out a thin file and handed it to him.
He opened and found a petition for changing name where his name was written. The form was mostly filled. When he read the new name written on it, he snapped his head to look at O'Brian in disbelieve. He felt like his heart stopped.
"Can you give me this?" She asked, a soft smile on her lips and he couldn't breathe properly.
"This...." He couldn't find any words to say.
He looked in those beautiful circles which held such strong adoration in them as the owner of them cupped his face and asked softly, "Won't you become Dean O'Brian for me?"
