Chapter Fifty Four : Good Over Evil
The Football Boys (DISCONTINUED)
A/N happy Easter if you celebrate!
The ending credits to Shrek rolled across the screen and without realizing, night had already fallen. After the most disastrous welcome back party earlier, we'd decided to wind down with a shrek-a-thon.
My eyelids felt heavy as I outstretched my arms before letting out an unexpected yawn. "We should get back, my mom is going to be pissed that I was out so late and I'm sure your dad has noticed you're not home by now." I threw my empty pop can into the trash.
Dakota groaned, resting his head on my shoulder, pouting as he did so.
"Yeah, its getting pretty late." Jane said before turning off the television and getting up from the comfort of the couch.
"Mind if I crash here tonight, J?" Gemma asked, already curled into a ball underneath the blankets.
"No, of course not." Jane said, rinsing out the bowl we had used for popcorn.
"See you guys tomorrow!" I said as I headed out the door.
"What's the rush?" Dakota asked as he struggled to keep up with me.
"I just don't want to fall out of my parents good graces." By the expression on his face, the confession was a surprise to him, hell to myself too. But it was always there, the thought of things going back to how they were three years ago, it gave me a complete chill. And so, I did anything not to cause trouble between me and my parents.
"Luka, you're the star in their eyes, you always have been." I smiled, coyly, staring at the ground as our hands interlocked, and they remained that way all the way home.
Dakota stared across the street with a solemn look in his eyes, as if his greatest enemy were there. I sensed he didn't want to go home.
"Want to stay the night?" I blurted out with a second thought. He nodded with a grin, tugging on my hand towards the house.
"Luka, why were you out so la-" My mom's eyes widened at Dakota in excitement.
"Sorry mom, lost track of time, it won't happen again." I said with a smirk.
"Dakota, honey, how have you been? Is everything alright?" She said as she embraced him and unlike the times before, I didn't feel the twinge of jealousy.
"I'm fine. It's great to see you Mrs.De Angelis." Dakota said through stifled sobs, fighting to keep the tears at bay.
"Can he stay for the night?"
"Of course!"
ð
Part of me knew it was a bad idea for Dakota to stay the night but I couldn't let him go back home. Not when I knew what Mr.Moreau was capable of. I would worry about what was to come, in the morning. For now, I'd enjoy the company of my favourite person.
"Here." I handed a pair of pyjamas to Dakota. He stood up, taking off his shirt and I caught a peak of his stomach. I cleared my throat and turned around. It'd been three years since I'd last seen him, and his body, it was like seeing it again for the first time.
"I completely forgot to tell you." I said as I sat at my computer desk.
"What?"
"I think Alex is gay."
"What!?"
"Yeah, I know right."
"What makes you say that?"
"He asked me and I quote, how did you know you liked boys."
"Holy shit." Dakota said, just as flabbergasted as I was when Alex had told me.
"I know right." I chuckled, some what giddily.
What was I to do with this new information? Keep it to myself? Tell Gemma and Jane? But Gemma would've definitely blabbed about it to someone else and I wasn't sure if I was ready to have that kind of guilt on my hands.
"He seemed so, straight." Dakota said with an arched brow.
"Maybe he likes both."
"I don't know, but you have got to get a hold of him! I wonder what made him want to confess?" Dakota said as he slid under the covers.
I shrugged, "Hell if I know."
ð
Last night was the most excruciating, painful night I'd had to endure. That being, holding myself back from becoming hot and bothered from Dakota pressing up against me. Even watching him sleep was a turn on.
I woke to him peering down at me as he propped himself up on an elbow, pushing a lock of hair out of my face.
"Good morning."
"How long have you been staring at me like that?" I asked with a chuckle.
"You're romantic." Dakota said as he smirked before pecking my forehead roughly, sitting up afterwards.
"I know he's here Lillian! Get him out here, now!" I didn't have to guess who's voice it was as it echoed down the hall. My heart pounded as we scurried out of bed and raced out the bedroom door, still in our pajamas and messy hair.
"Dad." Dakota spoke softly, the tiniest hint of fear in his voice.
"Dakota, get over here, right now." Mr.Moreau's face was flushed with red and his eyes bulged from their sockets. He'd looked half mad, and it sent fear through out my body. Dakota took a step forward, ready to obey.
"Don't." I shook my head as I grabbed Dakota's forearm, stopping him before he could go any further.
"Keeping then apart, won't stop them from being together, Tony." My mother said as she stood beside me.
"Don't make me go over there and get you." Mr.Moreau continued, ignoring anything we'd said.
"It's okay." Dakota said as he moved my hand away from his, looking into my eyes with a smile on his face. I nodded, heart beating. As Dakota neared closer, Mr.Moreau raised his hand, forcefully bringing it down and across his face.
"Dakota!" I said, ready to run to his side but my mother held me back. "He might hurt you too." She sniffled, eyes red and full of tears.
"You've ruined his life!" Mr.Moreau yelled frantically.
"I have no choice, you're going away from a long time. And I'll make damn sure you never see each other." He continued as he grabbed Dakota by the forearm, ready to drag him out the door.
"Let go of my son." Mrs Moreau said as she walked in, like some super hero saving the day.
"Maria, let me handle this." Mr.Moreau said in a hushed voice.
"No! I will not lose my son a second time." She said as she grabbed Dakota away from him and pulled him close.
"If you can't accept him.." She paused, her voice giving way. "You'll have to leave."
Mr.Moreau stood, frozen and huffing as if he'd just ran a marathon. Mr. and Mrs.Moreau looked each other in the eyes, neither of them blinking before he let out a deep sigh. Without another word, he stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him.
"Mom, you were.. amazing." Dakota said as he held her in his arms.
"Maria.." My mother walked towards her before embracing her and it wasn't long until the two started weeping, but they were tears full of triumph.
I let out a breath I hadn't known I was holding, and felt a weight off my chest as I did so. Dakota ran towards me, wrapping his arms around me, his body was trembling and I'm certain so was mine.
No one had ever stood up to Mr.Moreau, he called the shots but now it was our turn.
