Chapter 30 - Physical Examination
The Jasmine Scented White Moonlight
Dr. Wen noticed that Shen Shuyun wasn't joking at all, and his expression gradually became serious. He looked at Shen Shuyun and said in a stern tone, "Mr. Shen, have you really thought this through? Gland removal is not a minor surgery. The glands are a significant organ for an omega, and removing them is as serious as removing a kidney. In past cases, some omegas have died on the operating table or from post-operative complications. Although these are rare cases, the risks do exist. With the current advancements in omega mark removal technology, if you're only separating from your alpha, there's really no need for gland removal surgery."
Shen Shuyun listened to the doctor's words this time but still shook his head. "I want to have my glands removed."
Dr. Wen wanted to say more, but when his gaze fell on the glands at the back of Shen Shuyun's neck, he paused. The glands bore half a bite mark and were slightly bruised, indicating that the omega's alpha had not been gentle during marking.
"Alright," Dr. Wen's experience told him not to ask too much further, lest he evoke painful memories for the omega in front of him. "However, before undergoing gland removal surgery, you need to have a comprehensive physical examination to ensure you don't have any hidden diseases."
Shen Shuyun finally showed a polite smile. He stood up, lightly pressed his pale, chapped lips together, and asked softly, "Where do I get the examination?"
"I'll have someone take you there," Dr. Wen returned to his computer and typed a few times on the keyboard. "Just follow her."
The door opened, and a female nurse standing outside said to Shen Shuyun, "Please follow me."
Shen Shuyun was taken for a full-body examination and had a tube of blood drawn. The nurse told him, "Please come back tomorrow morning. Some of the test results won't come out on the same day
"Alright," Shen Shuyun nodded, not in a rush, "I'll come back tomorrow morning."
The next morning, Shen Shuyun deliberately skipped breakfast and drove his Audi to the hospital at eight o'clock.
He arrived at half-past eight, took the elevator to the third floor, and headed straight for Dr. Wen's office.
There were no patients at the moment, so Shen Shuyun went directly into Dr. Wen's office. Dr. Wen seemed to be waiting for him and stood up as soon as he entered, staring intently at him. "You finally came."
Shen Shuyun felt a bit strange. "What?"
"Mr. Shen, you can't have the gland removal surgery, or even the mark removal surgery," Dr. Wen sighed and handed Shen Shuyun a physical examination report. "Because you're pregnant, ten weeks along."
Shen Shuyun felt a splitting headache. He looked at the paper through the thin daylight and felt like every word was a crawling ant. Grasping the paper like it was his last straw, he asked, "Doctor, could there be a mistake? I didn't take any precautions during my heat for three years and never got pregnant. How could it happen now?"
Dr. Wen looked at him sympathetically, softening his tone. "The test is not wrong, Mr. Shen. If you still insist on having the gland removal surgery, you would need to undergo an abortion first... Both of these surgeries alone are very harmful to your body. As a doctor, I advise you not to put yourself through this; otherwise, you might suffer from lifelong complications."
Shen Shuyun slowly placed his hand on his still-flat belly, where a tiny life was indeed growing.
Why now, of all times?
A deep pain surfaced in Shen Shuyun's heart as he lowered his gaze, speaking softly to the child inside him.
You've come so late, your other dad won't be expecting you anymore. From now on, it's just me.
But don't be afraid. I'll give birth to you. Even if it's just me, I'll make sure you're happy, okay?
"You're not saying anything, so I'll take that as a yes."
Shen Shuyun unfolded the crumpled paper and then looked up, smiling at the doctor. "Thank you, doctor. I won't have the surgery anymore."
Despite the complicated matters between him and Ning Wan, the child was innocent. He couldn't bring himself to be angry or to give up.
Shen Shuyun suddenly recalled the child he had lost at eleven weeks before. Having lost that one so tragically, he couldn't bear to go through that again.
Dr. Wen looked at Shen Shuyun's delicate smile, momentarily dazed. He sensed that the arrival of the child had dispelled the air of death around this person, revealing his originally gentle and calm nature, like a rebirth.
"Don't worry too much; your current physical condition is quite good, and the child is healthy," Dr. Wen took a handbook from the shelf behind him and handed it to Shen Shuyun. "This is an omega pregnancy handbook. Take it home and read it."
"Thank you, I'll read it carefully."
Shen Shuyun took the thin booklet and left the omega hospital. He looked up at the clear, cloudless sky, instinctively raising his hand to shield his eyes from the bright sunlight.
He wanted to leave, to leave W City. Otherwise, everything here reminded him of Ning Wan, which was unbearable, as if he couldn't escape that suffocating feeling wherever he went.
On Monday, after finishing his morning class, Shen Shuyun was at his desk writing something. A female colleague next door, holding a freshly made cup of barley tea, joked with him, "Oh, Mr. Shen, what are you writing so diligently early in the morning? Are you aiming to be the Teacher of the Year?"
Shen Shuyun looked up from his paper, smiled at her, and said softly, "A resignation letter."
The female teacher widened her eyes. The hot tea touched her lips, causing her to hiss in pain. She cautiously asked, "Mr. Shen, what's going on?"
"I'm resigning," Shen Shuyun saw the look of guilt on his colleague's face and quickly made a joke, "It's my own decision. Isn't there a saying, 'The world is so big, I want to go see it!'"
His colleague was indeed amused, took another sip of hot tea, and waved, "Remember to come back and teach again after traveling the world!"
Shen Shuyun nodded in response.
After finishing his last class, Shen Shuyun stretched his lower back, closed his book, and went to the grade director's office.
The grade director was a nearly sixty-year-old lady with gold-rimmed reading glasses, often smiling and with a good temper. Shen Shuyun had a good impression of her and she had helped him a lot during his early years of teaching.
"Hello."
The director put on her glasses hanging around her neck, squinted to see who it was, and then smiled kindly. "Ah, it's Xiao Shen. Come in."
Shen Shuyun sat on the chair in front of her, his expression relaxed, and spoke gently, "Director, I'm here to talk about my resignation."
The director's smile froze, and she frowned, looking at Shen Shuyun with concern. "What's wrong? Is there something going on? Why are you suddenly talking about resigning?"
"Yes," Shen Shuyun took out his resignation letter and pregnancy test results from his book. "I'm pregnant, so I want to resign."
"Oh, this..." The director suddenly remembered the incident from three years ago. Three years ago, when Shen Shuyun lost a child at the school, it caused quite a stir, and almost all the teachers knew about it. "You can take maternity leave. There's no need to resign..."
She got up and patted Shen Shuyun's shoulder, accidentally causing the collar of his shirt to slip down a bit, revealing some of the grim bite marks on his neck.
"Xiao Shen... your glands..."
Shen Shuyun turned aside, quickly buttoning the top button of his shirt, he thought to himself that he should have known earlier that he shouldn't have opened this button just because it was too hot. He still smiled and said, "It's nothing, just a mistake my alpha made."
The director hesitated, her tone becoming more serious, "Xiao Shen, if you're suffering, you shouldn't bottle it up. If you want to leave here and W City, I can help you submit your resignation and expedite the school's handover process as soon as possible but don't shoulder everything by yourself, understand?"
"Thank you," Shen Shuyun genuinely appreciated her, so he relaxed a bit and said softly, "You don't have to worry about anything else. I've already divorced my alpha. I just want to start over in a different place. I'll finish the handover before I leave, so please rest assured. I'm very sorry for resigning suddenly at the start of the semester. I know this will inconvenience the school and the students, but I really have no choice. Dragging it out would only harm the students."
Shen Shuyun truly couldn't continue teaching. He was too afraid of reliving the same nightmare and losing another child here.
"I understand, I understand," the director sighed, the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes deepening. "Young people, everyone faces difficulties..."
Shen Shuyun responded gently, "Yes."
But he wasn't young anymore... This year, he was already thirty-two.
